To think your eyes/eyeballs aren’t self cleaning?

I’m not sure how it came up in conversation but me and DH were rocking about showering/cleaning and DH mentioned he doesn’t open his eyes in the shower much. I asked how he cleans his eyeballs and he looked confused. Turns out he doesn’t wash his eyeballs at all. He closes his eyes and washes his face but not his actual eyes?

AIBU to tell him his eyes don’t clean themselves and he needs to open his eyes and rinse them with the shower?

Is anybody else suddenly conscious of their eyeballs and how they feel right now? Mine feel quite dry. Maybe they need a wash.

Strangely yes but know it's bad for them ....thinking maybe less MN and screen time is better for them.

Don't be stupid!!

RedRiverShore5 · 28/11/2025 21:54

Only if I get something in my eye do I wash it out

Dinosweetpea · 28/11/2025 21:55

Utterly insane, I hope this is a wind up.

It’s obviously not a joke.

OP is going to tell us the secret to white eye balls. You just need to wait until page 38 for the ingredients reveal.

I’m calling it now it’s got bicarbonate it in. It’s always bicarb.

I’m going for some form of aloe MLM

Clearly OP has succumbed to am amoeba that has got into their brain via the water in the eyes and is now eating away at the grey matter causing ridiculous suggestions 🤣

My tears burn my skin. After I cry my face feels like it's on fire 💔💔

This is interesting. DD gets stingy skin when she gets drops of sea water on her arms and legs. Not if she’s swimming in it but if she’s in a canoe or something and gets splashes. I wonder if the salt is the catalyst here.

I’m actually often complimented on my eyes! I’ve had a few comments about how white the whites are.. maybe that why!

Every time I think this thread can't get any better, it does 😆

Anyone else remember the poster who was always on about snakes or lizards or something in the water supply? Starting to think they may have had a point.

I’ve never once had an eye infection or conjunctivitis while DH has, it might be controversial maybe but it obviously works.

I have never washed my eyes and I've never had an eye infection or conjunctivitis. Therefore washing your eyes obviously has absolutely no impact on the likelihood or not of getting an infection.

HumourMeThis · 28/11/2025 21:16

Ive always been taught to open my eyes under the shower and rinse my eyes because otherwise I would get conjunctivitis and infections because gunk builds up in them. Surely that makes sense! I can’t imagine not washing my eyes 😳

Taught by whom and more than once?

Did you go to some weird fetish school?

flowertoday · 28/11/2025 22:01

I have never scrubbed between my toes. Or scrubbed my privates with soap. Or washed my eyeballs.
I am clean though.
There is no need for all of the personal (over ) hygiene. Just have a normal bath or shower .
No wonder some folk have such bad dermatological / opthalmological / thrush type issues.

This thread is so funny though at least in these dark times.

It sounds like something a mad power crazed nun would make Catholic school kids do.

clary · 28/11/2025 22:02

Hello to all fellow contact lens wearers! I had an eye infection a few years ago and it is not something I want to repeat. At the time I used to swim in my lenses (with goggles) so that’s not something I do now. But the water in the pool is probably cleaner than the water in your shower. Do stop this now please @HumourMeThis if indeed you really do this.

Yeah, interesting only post by the OP on MN eh?

I've reported.

Toucanfusingforme · 28/11/2025 22:05

It’s get blepheritis which is managed by dipping a cotton bud in water/baby shampoo mix and cleaning my eye lashes. Works like magic to keep it away. Never in a million years would I wash out my eyes with water. Tears are the right chemical composition to clean and moisten eye balls. Water is designed with chemicals in it to discourage bugs and strengthen teeth. Not moisten eyes. Absolutely not!!
