Is this a police job? Threatened by Vinted seller

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 14:36

I know I’m not, but posting for traffic as no idea what to do.
Item for Christmas arrived today and was clearly fake so applied for a refund via Vinted. I’ve had a series of threatening messages from the seller saying he needs the money, and he has my address so will come and find me. He included a photo of himself holding an air rifle. I’m not easily spooked but feel really scared now as he does have my address and seems very angry. I’ve filed a “help” through Vinted but they may not even read it for 48 hours. Do I call 111? On my own with 2 kids so feel really on edge.

Wrong thread @KLD89. I think I know the one you were responding to; I can’t bear to read it as I know it’ll upset me x

TealTiger4 · 29/11/2025 18:11

Er yes please call the police. As said before he is holding a weapon. Don't let the police fob you off either

Heyhoitsme · 29/11/2025 18:11

999 they will decide if its an emergency or not. My son is a call handler and they get calls on trivial things. Yours is not trivial.

busymomtoone · 29/11/2025 18:11

100% call the police. Absolutely no question. You have the evidence, he’s made a threat. What a horrible experience for you. I don’t think for a moment that you are genuinely at risk ( as it would draw more attention to what is probably a very lucrative side line) but non the less he needs to be stopped. Hope you are ok.

Soberinthecity · 29/11/2025 18:12

This is a direct threat - 999

chunkyBoo · 29/11/2025 18:13

Goodness that sounds awful - empty threats I’m sure, he might be 200 miles away for all you know

Soberinthecity · 29/11/2025 18:15

Looks like he’s deleted his account now. I really hope they can help - he’s not the brightest, making threats like that online. And why is he demanding money from you???

T1Dmama · 29/11/2025 18:21

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 23:59

Thank you.
It wa delivered by inpost, printed label…packaging was black so no obvious postal location or stamps I can see.

Why would an I post parcel have your address on?

ThisLivelyRaven · 29/11/2025 18:21

are you ok? Hope the police helped?

OnlyTomSaidThat · 29/11/2025 18:25

T1Dmama · 29/11/2025 18:21

Inpost delivers to lockers or homes. Homes would have the address on.

weezypops · 29/11/2025 18:26

Hope you have seen the police by now OP

LHP118 · 29/11/2025 18:27

As neighbourhood watch, I'd say it's an immediate risk. He's said he has your address. So, 999.

T1Dmama · 29/11/2025 18:28

Reasonswhy · 29/11/2025 11:00

Thank you all so much.
Just waiting for the police to come at some point today I think, though inevitably my little one is poorly and needs an out of hours appointment so it’s all going to get a bit tricky. Will update once I’ve met with the officers, thank you all for helping me feel less alone last night. You are good eggs.

I know it’s late, but I expect he’s miles away and isn’t going to come anywhere near your house… if he can afford fuel to pay you a visit then he wouldn’t be so pissed about the refund!……
Did you get a refund in full? And get to keep the item?
I’m glad vinted blocked him… I’ve looked at buying jellycats on vinted and messaged lots of sellers asking if they’re genuine and had no response. So many scammers out there!!
His threats were to bully you into excepting the £20, his tactic probably has worked in the past and buyers have been too scared to report him!

Oh ok, I thought I post was lockers only. I always get mine delivered to lockers as it saves the parcel being left on my doorstep in view

You do realise that water (yes, even UK tap water) can contain a certain bacteria that can eat away at your cornea and cause blindness, right? This is why contact lenses are to be washed and sterilised in specific solution and NOT water. Water is not safe for your eyeballs, on the regular. If you want to ‘clean your eyes’ I’d suggest doing an eye bath with proper eye care solution now and again. Stop opening your eyes in the shower!!

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 18:46

update: they called to ask me to email the image and messages as they are busy, and they called back quickly to say they have studied the image and it’s not a real gun, said very common on vinted 🤷‍♀️and that they will come to see me next week to take down details. Didn’t seem to think it was serious which I am surprised by but I guess it’s also reassuring?

The police can’t tell if it’s a real gun or not. It’s a firearm until proven otherwise! And they can only do that by making it safe and sending it away to see if it a viably shoot a bullet or not. I know, I’m a police officer!! I don’t know what area you live or which police service covers you but this is 🐂 💩!

Did you keep the packaging? Do not throw anything away, it could have fingerprints and/or DNA on it. Every contact leaves a trace. They may also be able to trace which inpost box it was sent from by the label. Have they been round yet?

With inpost, it depends on whether or not the seller had to print a label. I’ve sent things with Inpost where I’ve scanned the QR code and put the parcel in the box so I don’t know the buyers address.

Go down to your local police station and report it. That is a clear threat.

Most definitely, inform the police, don't hesitate. This is serious threatening behaviour.

PaulineMush · 29/11/2025 18:51

Judecb · 29/11/2025 18:02

A threat with a weapon is definitely a police matter.

Good job that the OP reported it to the police YESTERDAY then.

Most definitely read the fucking thread (or at least the OPs updates)

busymomtoone · 29/11/2025 18:53

I’m glad the police are coming round ( albeit eventually). The likelihood of this horror being near enough to bother visiting you is virtually zero - even assuming he’s in this country/ has transport/ would know what to do if and when he found you) - but he should be taken to task ( by police) over it as it could be extremely organised - for those saying it’s small amounts - not if he ships in 10 - 20 pairs a week and the threats work to even just a teeny minority- he’s probably then clearing £50 per sale profit even with partial token £20 refunds. Vinted should also be on this like hot cakes to sort it out.

Isinglass20 · 29/11/2025 18:53

If he’s got an AKA 47 gun the police will want to know how he got it in addition to having a dangerous weapon with intention to cause injury or death as he threatened and , he’ll be charged for not having a gun licence and probably has previous. I’d have dialled 999 after the first message never mind waiting for permission’ from MN. OP has two kids for Christs sake.
