Is this a police job? Threatened by Vinted seller

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 14:36

I know I’m not, but posting for traffic as no idea what to do.
Item for Christmas arrived today and was clearly fake so applied for a refund via Vinted. I’ve had a series of threatening messages from the seller saying he needs the money, and he has my address so will come and find me. He included a photo of himself holding an air rifle. I’m not easily spooked but feel really scared now as he does have my address and seems very angry. I’ve filed a “help” through Vinted but they may not even read it for 48 hours. Do I call 111? On my own with 2 kids so feel really on edge.

That's horrible, OP, and I can imagine how upsetting it is for you.

Solocatmum · 29/11/2025 11:39

You do need to report this to the police.

SHE ALREADY HAS.

Read the fucking thread.

Straight to police.

Ex copper - this is a direct threat of violence.

Don't report to Vinted quite yet, as they may delete that person's account and you'll want to get the details for police.

Screenshot everything, including the messages and the sellers account details - name, location, history, reviews, anything you can capture.

Vinted will have it all stored on their back office system. She should report and contact the police.

@ClaireEclair

Did you not have the slightest interest in the content of the 400+ comments posted before yours?

Goldwren1923 · 29/11/2025 13:57

I’m confused. You think he lives abroad?? In this case you can’t seriously think he’s actually going to turn up?

How stupid or arrogant are they to assume they're the first ones to say it after 400 comments.

I know. What on earth do they think people have been advising since yesterday afternoon?!

samegirl · 29/11/2025 17:46

Hi I just read this and I'm so scared for you! The comment about little kids is not OK. Please I hope you called the police and you're all OK

Absolutely and also report it to trading standards.

TheFluentDreamer · 29/11/2025 17:48

If you receive threats like that and he knows where you live. I would, you never know money brings out the worst in people sadly.

I don’t know who to call, it doesn’t feel 999 worthy but I’m scared

Oh my gosh it's definitely 911 worthy!!!! Call the police! The guy has threatened you and your young children! Keep all your windows and doors locked and have you got a ring doorbell?

You need to report to Vinted and is worth contacting police. Screen shot the messages in case there is some way the seller can remove messages. You need to look at seller's profile and screenshot that too. Make sure you send the screenshot to Vinted.

She’s already called the police (yesterday), and they are visiting her today.

TheAdjutant · 29/11/2025 17:59

Threatening Words or Behaviour and Assault (fear of violence is sufficient) are Criminal Offences. Report to Police immediately (the threatened use of a firearm will up the stakes).

amispeakingintongues · 29/11/2025 18:00

It is a scam, so you should be safe.
but glad you reported it anyway.

A threat with a weapon is definitely a police matter.

Report him to the police first. Take advice from them but I would report him to Vinted he and Trading Standards too.

Awful. Do let us know what the police say/do?
