Is this a police job? Threatened by Vinted seller

Reasonswhy · 28/11/2025 14:36

I know I’m not, but posting for traffic as no idea what to do.
Item for Christmas arrived today and was clearly fake so applied for a refund via Vinted. I’ve had a series of threatening messages from the seller saying he needs the money, and he has my address so will come and find me. He included a photo of himself holding an air rifle. I’m not easily spooked but feel really scared now as he does have my address and seems very angry. I’ve filed a “help” through Vinted but they may not even read it for 48 hours. Do I call 111? On my own with 2 kids so feel really on edge.

Police all the way, and for threats like this - especially with the "firearm" photo you should call using 999

Shotokan101 · 29/11/2025 18:56

He needs jailed for this, bloody psycho thug

If he’s got an AKA 47 gun the police will want to know how he got it in addition to having a dangerous weapon with intention to cause injury or death as he threatened and , he’ll be charged for not having a gun licence and probably has previous. I’d have dialled 999 after the first message never mind waiting for permission’ from MN. OP has two kids for Christs sake.

There is no licence you can get that allows anyone to own an AK47 in the UK. Also no one has said anything about an AK47 so not sure where you got this from!

From his photo - though it's almost certainly a replica or an airsoft copy, unless he's even stupider than his messages already show....

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 29/11/2025 19:10

Did the police turn up?

Jenstan21582 · 29/11/2025 19:11

Omg!! I would say this is a definite 999 worthy! You absolutely won't be wasting their time. You must be worried sick. Even if it is just a threat, it's a very worrying one! Please let us know what the police say, keep your windows & doors locked, & close the curtains. Also, make sure you have your phone with you, even if it's only to the loo! Sorry if this sounds a bit far fetched, but there's a possibility this person isn't right in the head! xx

Rosedreaming · 29/11/2025 19:20

How did it go today OP? I'm sure it's an idle threat, and a very stupid one given that Vinted will have his payment details and address. He's an idiot trying to scare you, but if he can't afford to refund your order then he certainly can't afford to pay his 'black friends' to risk their freedom by committing a serious crime over a tracksuit. I work in a customer service role and we get threats all the time and see them made to other people. Nothing has ever come of them. It's understandably very scary, & calling the police was right. But you will be okay.

BassBug · 29/11/2025 19:23

I live next door to a Police Sergeant and she said call 101 and get it reported. Chances are you are not the first person they have threatened

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 29/11/2025 19:24

OMG this is worse than the Cancel the Cheque thread!

Polkadotsandmushrooms · 29/11/2025 19:25

Most likely a pathetic teenager trying to be gangster, whilst giggling with his mates behind a screen.
But yes call 101 , they will likely put you through to 999, this is awful for you !

Yes, funnily enough, lots of people suggested this yesterday, which is when the OP phoned the police.

You'd know this if you had RTFT.
Or at least, all the OP's posts.

Shall we start to count?
It's definitely going to replace "cancel the cheque"!

Why should she let "us" know what the police say when YOU CAN'T EVEN BE ARSED TO READ HER POSTS?

Please don’t make assumptions on what type of firearm it is. It could make the OPs fear worse. Also please don’t make assumptions that it is an airsoft or replica, you cannot tell by a photo alone.

My first time on here, will go to last posts next time, thanks

WaryCrow · 29/11/2025 19:38

Jeez you have to ask? Yes he’s making very serious threats with a weapon.

After you’ve called the police get in touch with Vinted: the police should want to do it but you can too. They should not want something like that associated with a peaceful trading business. No one should! The worlds gone utterly mad and forgotten what peaceful civilizations and economies are for to have any doubts inthe matter at all. Sadly we do seem to be in a new age of (male) brutality rules ok.

Reasonswhy · 29/11/2025 19:38

Update:
Still waiting for the police, it’s a city and it’s Saturday night so will be very busy with emergency calls.
Just got this through on vinted from a different account so they’ve clearly set that up and are still trying to scare me. This is scaring me now as they’re not just leaving it, and mentions of my kids and mum are too far. Have blacked out my address but oddly it’s 95% correct but not completely. Close enough to be too close for my comfort.

The people replying to the posters who jump in without reading the thread.. the ones who get angry, swear at them, and call them stupid and arrogant etc are more annoying than the people they're replying to. You're literally doubling the amount of times their useless posts are shown and doubling the amount of space they take up on the thread (sometimes more if multiple people take on the role of thread police).

I get that it's annoying but not that annoying. And tbh not as annoying as your finger wagging responses amplifying their pointless posts.

Please don't tell me what to do or say, especially when my comments are in fact
much more likely to assuage the OP's fears regarding the idiot's likely ability to have access to a genuine firearm, when others are just tossing about remarks about "an AK47".....

DarkForces · 29/11/2025 19:40

When this happened to me I screenshot everything and downloaded my account before shutting it down so they had no way to contact me. It's scary but that's what they're counting on. Stay strong @Reasonswhy

Bloody hell OP, it's scary that he didn't drop it after his account was blocked. I'm so sorry you've come into contact with such a scumbag.
