To buy myself a jellycat as an adult?

I know it sounds odd, but I’m heading off on some solo travelling next year. It’ll be the first time I’ve ever done something like this.

I mentioned off hand to a friend that I was thinking of getting myself a jellycat as a little companion (just a bit of fun, really), and she went off on me that it was incredibly strange to do. She said that as an adult I shouldn’t want a stuffed toy.

I know it does sound childish, but as a child I loved my stuffed animals. I had so many of them (all huge, or I’d take one of them) and I named and loved each of them. I just thought it might bring me a little bit of comfort while I’m away, but now I’m questioning myself massively

I have a Jellycat hedgehog with a waistcoat sat on the shelf and I bought a robin one recently, I'm quite old

GumFossil · 26/11/2025 21:19

My adult son and his adult girlfriend buy jellycat toys for each other. There’s obviously a market.

GlasvegasGirl · 26/11/2025 21:19

My daughter is 16 so not a real adult lol but she takes a teddy to every sleepover and even took him to the Duke of Edinburgh. Zero effs given!
She does have a lovely jellycat that she sleeps with at home with two other teddies. The favoured travelling teddy is a well worn charity shop buy that she’s had for about ten years. Definitely take your companion with you ❤️

Get the Jellycat. I also love a Squishmallow. They are so soft. Safe travels OP ❤️

If you need a cuddly toy for comfort when you're travelling solo, then I don't think you're ready for solo travelling.

Oh wheesht. I'm 45 and have done plenty of solo travelling over the past 20+ years. Every single time I've had a wee cuddly pal tucked into my bag, nothing wrong with it at all.

I'm pining over the pebble at the moment ... Sadly no longer available except for resale at £££ , but she'd be just my thing... Hopefully they may restock her.

The gherkin was an unexpected Christmas present from DH last year .. ( apparently because I Iove them ) then a string of tomatoes arrived. They come away with us in our campervan every time ..

Find Sid Batty on instagram.

He was going through a shite time with his mental health, bought himself a soft toy duck called Quack, and they went off to travel the world together. Now he has his own stuffed duck business, buys random people Jellycats, and is the most unassuming and humble person on social media. He still goes off on travels with Quack.

There are two kinds of people:

Ones who believe adults shouldn’t have anything “childish”. At 17 years and 364 days, you can like Lego, video games, soft toys, Disney or Harry Potter but the day after, all that stops. Your hobbies are cleaning, looking at your investments and hosting elaborate dinner parties.

Then everyone else who just doesn’t give a shit and figures if it isn’t hurting anyone and brings them joy, why the hell not. I’m glad Bartholomew is getting a little tribe, I think it would be a little mean for him to not have some friends.

I am deffo the second kind of person. I imagine we irritate the sensible shoes off the first kind.

I won a bear at school when I was 7, 40 years later it still travels everywhere I go including a year backpacking in my 20’s.
Don’t forget it in some photos! I still get bought lots of soft toys so I don’t have to buy any!!!

My 4 year does the same. Blarge Shark and his Ikea Orca. They're gorgeous. Glad to hear your shark is happy!

We've got one of those giant Djungleskog (spelling?) bears too but he's too big to actually snuggle with 😂

Sid is the entire reason I’m going on my solo travels! He is absolutely lovely

I really want the Jellycat tea bag! It's on my Christmas list. 🤞

MrsArcher23 · 26/11/2025 22:15

I really enjoyed buying jellycats for my DS when he was younger. Sad that he no longer wants them (he’s 19!) although he loved his precious penguin Monty until the Labrador ate it, whole and entire. A serious vet bill sorted it 😬

LittleTurtles · 26/11/2025 22:15

Do it! I have a little Jelly Cat Raindrop and he’s just so adorable I feel so happy when I look at him!

Davros · 26/11/2025 22:18

I love my cricket ball Jellycat. And I recently got a Sweep puppet, he needs to be photographed in interesting places and posted on his FB group (I’m 65)

Do you think Jelly cat is the only company out there?!

Mrsblobby88 · 26/11/2025 22:37

I have a few jellycats. Your friend sounds like judgmental little knob

Do you think Jelly cat is the only company out there?!

Obviously, since the old Beanie Baby rage the only soft toys that have been made are JellyCats (!)

SoloTripSoloVibes · 26/11/2025 22:43

Thanks everyone ❤️ I love that so many people have their own jellycats. I love whimsy joy like this
