To think my mum has fallen down a conspiracy rabbit hole and I can't get her out

My mum has just sent me a video of Ant Middleton explaining how in 2027 the migrants / boat people who are seeking asylum and have already been made legal, will kick off and attack us all.
He says there will be a civil war, he knows because of army contacts and that we need to prepare.
What am I suppose to say to that?
She fully believes that an army is being formed and is constantly telling me or sending me videos about it.
I love my mum but since covid, which she thought wasn't real, she has been thinking the government is out to get us. We live in an area of increased immigrants and she absolutely hates them.
I've tried to talk to her but shes adamant and its really getting me down.

And this thread highlights exactly the brainwashed utterly deluded leftist bs.

far more dangerous than the ‘far right’

SIGH

Blizzardofleaves · 25/11/2025 21:21

I am sorry op but she isn’t far away from the truth at all sadly - we need to hope we can get through to the next election without a civil war - or have you forgotten the riots? Are you choosing to look the other way? We are clearly stretched beyond what most people consider to be acceptable - we have a useless, toothless government without a plan. Yes, it’s a massive problem - and I’m surprised things are as calm as they are. It is not going to last.

lol, it’s clear that you have been, your posts are simply full of petulant foot stamping with zero intellectual content.

What, by saying 'Sigh'?
Lol.

Edit: If you think I have added nothing, am petulant, then perhaps it's best for you to move on from my posts and stop demanding? May make you a little more at peace.

Maybe your mother is looking at you and wondering how she’s raised someone who can’t critically look at what is happening and has been brainwashed into thinking complete lies about immigration. She’s probably chatting to her friends saying “I thought I raised my DD well but turns out she’s been brainwashed and cannot see the problem with immigration and has brought into the idea the words”racism” is a magic word to shut down debate..The Sad thing is she actually believes she’s right” Margaret turns to her and says “I have the same issue with my DD, I’d advise you just go no contact snd cut her out the will”

Well, yes mental issues like you mentioned exist, but I won't tolerate racism and she has enough money if she wants mental treatment and therapy. Also my mother doesn't think that, she says to me to shut up because she doesn't have criticical thinking skills other than showing bizarre and hateful sources. I don't need to tolerate that. Stop trying to justify vile, hateful stuff.

I think it's clear that many on this thread are utterly refusing to see what is happening in this country and would rather dismiss it as nonsense, maybe because it disturbs their comfort.

It's obvious that if you just dismiss people's concerns that they're going to turn to more extreme views.

Everyone in this country needs to have a real, honest conversation about this issue and not dismiss every concern as "racist, bigoted shite," just because they don't like it.

Because there's a lot of people, like it or not, who live in areas where these men have been placed-some actually outnumber the residents-I think somewhere in Braintree that was the case-where they no longer feel safe. Everyone on this thread can dismiss them-and say they're mean nasty bigots for not opening their arms and welcoming these men into their communities-but let's all be honest here-

Would you be happy if 600+ unvetted men of unknown origin landed in your community? Be honest.

That doesn't mean every single man/person that has crossed the channel is a danger, but if I handed everyone a bowl of skittles but before you took a handful, I said, "One percent of them are poisoned," would you still take them?

Well exactly, I bet many of these posters are “all police are bad because one raped a woman” view, or happy to make agest, androgenistic classist remarks, get shout “bigot” at the drop of a hat..

Eucalyptus321 · 25/11/2025 21:22

My dad has been awful since Covid. Believes everything he reads online and his algorithm is clearly geared to anything reform believes in and all conspiracy theories. He’s anti-vax and anti-government. I sadly gave up a while ago in terms of trying to reason with him. There doesn’t seem to be any getting through to him. I just have to let him believe what he believes. He’s not acting on anything he believes in. He just sounds stupid to my ears.

Maybe she’s just experienced and thinks - oh I was full of it when I was young, DD will grow out of it!

FigTreeInEurope · 25/11/2025 21:23

Anyway, didn't the Prime Sinister say that digital ID will fix all that immigration stuff. Just get that, and a big smile for the facial recognition cameras on the high street. Nothing to hide, nothing to fear. Stick the archers on, and have a cup of tea.

Bloozie · 25/11/2025 21:27

PoppyRoseBucky · 25/11/2025 21:20

Oh, so it's the definition of rape that's incorrect and that is why England has now taken the crown for rape capital of Europe!

Good to know. Keep telling yourself that.

The organisation publishing the data specifically said you shouldn't use it to compare countries, because every country has a different definition of rape, records the data in different ways, and has a different culture when it comes to both speaking up, and prosecuting rape.

And no, I don't believe the definition of rape is wrong.

I believe your inability to critically analyse datasets, paired with your hyperbolic divisive rhetoric, is wrong.

You are right on one thing you've said tonight.

We SHOULD be able to have honest conversations about immigration.

Honest conversations.

Honest.

Based on the truth, not cherry-picked data, anecdotes, fear and lies.

Give it a go.

Happyjoe · 25/11/2025 21:31

@Bloozie
I admire your optimism! :-)

Coffeesoon · 25/11/2025 18:39

@Dollymylove I agree that the current system isnt working, but I dont think they are being put here to create an army and take over.

Assuming you are crediting yourself with critical thinking skills, and an average IQ - how do you know for sure what is or isn’t being planned? How much research have you done? You seem incredibly comfortable with your current reality, do you suppose things will continue just like this in definitely?

Bloozie · 25/11/2025 21:32

The riots were the result of conspiracy bullshit, and any future civil unrest will be the same. It all becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, because absolute gibbons have taken control of the narrative, an army of bots is spreading it, and gullible people with more fear than sense believe it.

wrongthinker · 25/11/2025 21:33

What Covid showed people is that they can't trust the institutions that they had always believed were there to serve their best interests. They had family members dying alone in care homes because they weren't allowed to see them, while cabinet ministers threw parties. There were ridiculous rules about what they could and couldn't do, which bore no relation to observable reality. Masks are useless - no they're essential - no, they're useless but you still have to wear them. Covid will spread through groups of more than six, unless they're out marching for BLM. Etc etc.

People had a vivid, personal experience of institutions that they had always trusted lying to them, scaremongering, and behaving hypocritically. And that shook a lot of people to their very core. It made people reassess things that they had always just accepted as facts. If the government, BBC, NHS etc could be so untrustworthy when it came to Covid, why should we trust them with any other issues?

The erosion of faith in our institutions has only accelerated. The BBC recently had to admit that they had doctored one of Trump's speeches to make it look like he said the opposite of what he actually said. They also had to admit massive institutional bias when it comes to Israel and trans issues - bias which led to lies and 'selective editing'. Just for example.

So people turned to other sources of news and information and more people began to question prevailing left-wing narratives, like that immigration is good for us, and men can be women, etc.

Those other sources have varying degrees of legitimacy and authority. Something like GB News is pretty good - a variety of voices, proper journalistic practices, researched stories, interviews with experts etc. But then you have individual podcasters and writers who don't have much journalistic credibility or expertise - but people are primed to believe them more because precisely because they aren't associated with the mainstream media. And maybe some of what they say is observably true and fair, but it might be mixed in with absolute nonsense.

Sorry this is so long. But I think it's the reason why so many pp are saying their relatives have fallen for conspiracy theories. Some people will have been really destabilised by covid, but far more have been completely disillusioned and had their trust broken, and are no longer interested in the 'party line' espoused by the BBC and Guardian etc.

As for a civil war - who knows? I really hope it doesn't come to that, but you can see that people are deeply unhappy and frightened about the way our cities are changing and the perceived threats to our way of life. There have been many terror attacks now, as well as the rape gangs and individual attacks on women and children by immigrants, and while the risk may be overblown, it's not completely insane to think that British people might start fighting back.

I guess what I'm saying is that if I were in your situation, OP, I would be more likely to listen and validate some of your mum's ideas. She is probably being more extreme because she wants you to hear her and is trying to shock you into listening. If you actually took her seriously, you would be in a position to introduce some calm and perspective into the conversation. Find points of agreement, and when she veers into scaremongering or conspiracy, it will be easier to steer the conversation back to a more comfortable place, for both of you.

Stranger things have happened. I wouldn't blame anyone for being suspicious of the government, media, etc as they deserve our suspicion and derision.

You don't have to do anything except wait until 2027 and see if Ant Middleton, whoever he is, was right. I doubt it.

Am sure the family are delighted that her death is being weaponised by the right. What a lovely memory for them.

Or maybe they want to keep this horrible murder in the spotlight rather than it be brushed under the carpet, which im sure certain people would want 😬

Really? That is worrying. It sounds an awful lot like fear to me, on your part, and choosing not to listen. Fingers firmly in ears, insults at the ready.

ChachaIntheLongrun · 25/11/2025 21:35

people who are laughing at their parents or others having different views are also deluded.

why each town and city where there are plans for more barracks or hotels with male boat migrants protests??

Near where we are, Crowborough - do you think they are having fun right now

SeaAndStars · 25/11/2025 21:35

"But now England has took the crown for being the rape capital of Europe. Bravo, well done us. I can't think what could have happened."

This point is very dependent on the definition of rape in various countries. Countries with higher protections for women tend to have broader definitions of rape.
https://www.reuters.com/fact-check/claim-uk-has-highest-rape-rate-developed-world-misses-key-context-2025-09-17/

"Another woman, in Brighton or Bristol, I believe, was dragged onto a beach by three migrants and raped."

This was Brighton. Bristol doesn't have a beach.

Blizzardofleaves · 25/11/2025 21:36

My mum is similar. She thinks that ‘they’ are trying to ban Christmas and trying to get Remembrance Day stopped. My mum has an acquired brain injury which means that in the past she was just quietly racist (and knew not to do it in front of me) but now she can’t stop herself as her frontal lobe is fucked.

Someone posted here a few days ago to say Tesco's weren't allowed to mention Christmas. A seconds worth of Googling shows that isn't true. I don't know whether people are batshit or just trying to cause trouble.
