Has Reeves hit a new low- saying it's misogyny?

I couldn't believe I was reading this today.

She accuses her critics of being against her budget plans because she is a woman. (But ignores the number of U turns she's done because of the criticism from back benchers)

Using the 'misogyny' card is really desperate IMO.

"Never happened", you really do have a problem with me don't you?

How would they know?

Was Margaret Thatcher also a victim of misogyny?

Theresa May, Lynn Truss and Rachael Reeves were all incompetent and made blunders-maybe they were victims of that.

All the recent changing of male Conservative prime ministers when they were in power-all because they had blundered or angered the party-they too were victims of their own making.

If they had all been women, would you say they had been victims of misogyny too?

All the laughing at David "Mastermind" Lammy, the sneering at Keir "Son of a Toolmaker"-if they were women, would they be victims of misogyny too? Or is because they are incompetent dicks?

Rachael was given the nickname Rachel from Accounts because she had tried to bull herself on her CV, the lie was discovered, she had not held a big job and this nickname was meant to highlight this and laugh at it, by exaggerating her lies and laughing at them. It's a comic technique.

Just as Jeremy Corbyn and his stupid schemes have led to his nickname of "Magic Grandad"

If he were a woman would that be misogyny?

When a woman is criticized by everyone-men and women (Ms Badenoch has criticized her and incidentally, Ms Badenoch has never claimed to be a victim of misogyny even though she has been roundly criticised ) and when a woman's reaction to that is to cry misogyny, she does us no favours.

RR is incompetent and laughable-that is why she is called incompetent and people-men and women-laugh at her.

Pleased to see at least one person here today is up to speed with how Rachel from Accounts originated.

Her whole past is one of being economical with the truth about her employment and why she left various roles.

As for the men in politics being treated more kindly- they aren't.

Jeremy Hunt was asked in a radio interview if he minded critics calling him Jeremy Cunt.

There's definitely misogyny at play, and a lot of it on here, from women, which is shameful.

How many male chancellors have been described in a similar way to 'Rachel from accounts'. Or in the case of 'Angela from Housing', delving into her background in a critical manner rather than celebrating her being appointed as deputy PM?

How many male chancellors have been described in a similar way to 'Rachel from accounts'

Are you suggesting that previous chancellors haven't been referred to in derogatory ways in the media?

There will of course be misogyny directed at any woman in role, but the 'Rachel from Accounts' was very much brought on by her own actions, and would have happened to a man in the same scenario.

Christmaspuddingsss · 25/11/2025 09:15

It was on Linkedin- the equivalent.

Linked in is not a Cv and holds none of the weight of a cv

you know full well that pretending it’s a CV adds weight to the ideas she’s lied and been fraudulent- gaining a job by lying. This is not the case. Her job was not awarded due to her linked in narrative, neither would any job be.

How? she was a BoE economist, for 6 years, thats a matter of fact, she exaggerated her time there but I don't see quite how that deserves being called "Rachel from Accounts"

Bushmillsbabe · 25/11/2025 09:25

There is definitely misogyny in politics, and racism. But the criticisms levelled at Reeves are nothing to do with her gender, they are to do with the fact that people are feeling worse and worse off economically, that she seems to be going back on her word about tax increases, and that she keeps changing her mind.

Saying a remark is passive aggressive is a personal attack now? It comes across as a passive aggressive comment.......

Oh for goodness' sake, Twisty. I asked you a genuine question. You could have just answered it without being snarky. That's all.

SpaceRaccoon · 25/11/2025 09:26

No, she's a useless chancellor who also happens to be a woman. I don't recall people crying about misogyny for Truss, either, and she didn't stoop to claim it.

poetryandwine · 25/11/2025 09:27

ShesTheAlbatross · 25/11/2025 09:08

Urgh I know it wasn’t in the Commons but no one accused Matt Hancock of doing the entire male sex a disservice when he cried over the Covid vaccines.

This, @ChardonnaysBeastlyCat

The same pp probably went for Truss anyway. And other female politicians.

PandoraSocks · 25/11/2025 09:30

poetryandwine · 25/11/2025 09:27

They didn't accuse him of giving men in high office a bad name when he was conducting an affair in the workplace during a time of national crisis, either.

StarlightRobot · 25/11/2025 09:30

It’s one thing for Rachel Reeves to call out misogyny when it happens. But today is the eve of the budget. Raising misogyny now feels like a way of deflecting from criticism when the public is seriously worried about her policies. In this context, she is pulling the misogyny card in a way that is deeply unhelpful.

Sorry but she did.

& she was right too.

SunnyViper · 25/11/2025 09:33

She is totally incompetent. Being a woman allows for more targeted and misogynistic criticism.

Then don't make up ficticious personal attacks......
Yes I reported those comments, yes I challenged them when I saw them.

askmenow · 25/11/2025 09:34

zazazaaarmm · 25/11/2025 08:08

There is absolutely no doubt the media and society is hugely misogynistic especially to politicians.

The media is also extremely biased towards the right in the UK. The things they let the Tories off with is unbelievable.

That said it doesnt mean she is handling the budget well.

“Biased to the Right” You’re having a laugh! She’s bloody incompetent!

“ Rachel from Accounts” is a promotion for that idiot given she was in Customer Services.

Never has a budget been such a debacle. So inept and insecure are Labour , that she’s been testing what markets and backbenchers would accept for the past month.
The standard protocol is a budget purdah for a month prior.

The gilt market is in a worse state now than in Liz Trusses time but you don’t hear a whisper of it in MSM.
Right wing bias …my arse!

Half of all UK borrowing each month goes on national debt repayments. A Ponzi scheme!

TheNuthatch · 25/11/2025 09:35

The Rachel from accounts name was given after Reeves lied about her time at HBOS iirc. Specifically that her position was actually not as an economist, but in retail banking.

Her crying in the commons caused a market reaction as she is the chancellor. The same cannot be said of Hancock.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 25/11/2025 09:37

poetryandwine · 25/11/2025 09:27

This, @ChardonnaysBeastlyCat

This what?

The Matt Hancock whataboutery?

What's your question? Has he been complaining of misogyny? Of misandry?

What's that to do with my reply to you wine?

But I looked it up and I don't mind him crying. It was a very emotional time and he cried because he was happy and proud of the vaccines. I was one of the first people to receive one, it allowed me to do my job.

It didn't send the financial markets in panic and it didn't do the country a disservice.

I cannot believe anyone with half a brain can't see it.

matresense · 25/11/2025 09:38

I think that there has been misogyny, but there’s been a lot more incompetence. I don’t think that blaming misogyny is really going to cut it. It is frustrating watching someone make lots of crap decisions, then reverse them in favour of more crap decisions and then try to find people to blame. I have a lot of sympathy for the fact that her economic inheritance is terrible and the can’t spaff money around the way her backbenchers want her to. But she’s a grown up and she needs to have a decent plan and communicate it.

Greenwitchart · 25/11/2025 09:39

She is not criticised because she is a woman.

She is rightly criticised because she is incompetent, over-promoted and not suited for the role of Chancellor. She has made one catastrophic decision after another. She also misrepresented her experience in her CV. Those are facts, not misogyny...

It is pathetic that she is now trying to claim that this is because she is a woman.

Starmer, who is also completely out of his depths, gets similar criticism and low poll ratings.

As a feminist it makes me angry when incompetent women try to play that card.

I voted Labour but I am appalled by every member of the current government.

schoolfriend · 25/11/2025 09:39

Two things can be true -

  1. She is subject to some misogyny in the way she is treated in general.
  2. She is making a total mess of her job and this budget process in particular has been a total shambles which has already negatively impacted the economy and she's not even announced it yet.

askmenow · 25/11/2025 09:34

You need to have a look at your claims, she worked as an economist at the BOE

Truss too yields from 1.7% to over 4.5% and they ve never recovered, the Cons took debt from 65% 2010 to almost 100% by the time they left office.

Our debt and interest payments is not on Labour or Reeves.

On the "sent markets into a panic" yes they did, as they thought she was going to be sacked & monetary policy relaxed, she stayed, markets calmed & gilts are continuing to drop too...MSM are not reporting this!

That you think she is incompetent is a valid POV but the misogyny needs to stop.

Fearfulsaints · 25/11/2025 09:40

I think Rachel from Accounts annoyed me because I've worked in environments where its been "the girl in accounts 'The HR girl" but the men got 'Dave, Head of HR', 'Rosh, our Traineee Accountant',

I appreciate they use her name and the which is better than girl but its felt like a reference to that culture.

It also feels to me really dismissive of all women in back office roles. Like my friends in accounts are diminished by the slur too, even though I am sure some would make fine chancellors!

I do understand why it came about due to a lie, but I think the above it why it rankles me more than it probably should.
