AIBU that this is the most ridiculous thing for a company to claim.

"Can a transgender woman have a period? Absolutely. Many trans and gender-diverse people menstruate. Whether you’re a woman, a man, non-binary or agender, your body may menstruate too."

Actually, special mention for this gem..

The fact is trans people have existed throughout history, so there is clearly a biological reason for them existing

I'll leave aside the call to "biological reasons" from the person who also called for biological facts to bugger off 🫠 Just the reasoning here is amazing. There certainly is a biological reason for men and women existing as separate sex classes, that being the survival of the species. And yes, men who claim to be women exist, but this alone doesn't imbibe them with any worthy "reason". And while men who claim to be women exist, men who actually are women do not.

I'd call for facts to bugger off and go get plastered too if this was what I had to say!

Indeed and a lot of scientists (particularly evolutionary biologists) fall into this trap too, in that there is a "reason" why everything exists. By this logic there is a reason why cancer exists. I particularly hate the idea that something exists because it benefits a wider community, I just fail to understand how the biological development of a fertilised egg is influenced by the social practises of local community the mother lives in.

The fact is that humans are incredibly complex organisms and development can go wrong.

If you read the article you’ll see what you’ve wrote is incorrect

No, the article clearly states that "some trans women" don't have uteruses which infers that other trans women do.

Whilst the article does talk about the apparent causes of periods by hormones, basically calling something that isn't a period a period.

Helleofabore · 21/11/2025 17:10

There is a reason that people exist at all.... it is what happens when a sperm meets an egg.

There is a reason that people who claim to have transgender identities exist as well, they were born and they have philosophical belief that they have a gender identity that doesn't reflect material reality.

They absolutely do exist. Yes.

Do male people who have periods 'exist' without taking artificial hormones that their bodies don't produce naturally and have no medical purpose in those male bodies? No. They don't exist in nature. They only exist because doctors write them prescriptions for those hormones that their body do not require.

So, why are female people being told that any male person can have a 'period'?

It's all very well the Mumsnet demographic calling out this absolute horseshit for what it is.

The worrying thing is that there are young girls out there being gaslit to believe that it's their duty to affirm and 'be an ally' to fetishistic men. 🤬

Yes! Those awful signs that popped up in universities across the land that told people (largely women, I expect) that if they someone they didn't expect in the loos it was none of their business to ask what they were up to or back out and look for security or do any of the other obvious common sense things we'd all have taken for granted a few years ago.

What the heck! Trans women get periods apparently

I keep losing track of this thread, reading it arseways etc.
But in case it’s not been mentioned already, that ridiculous company this is all about should be trolled with non-stop playing outside the company HQ of Helen Reddy’s anthem ‘Only Women Bleed’.

Menstruation: The monthly shedding of blood and tissue from the lining of the uterus (womb) when pregnancy does not occur.

Transgender women are biologically male, so don't have a uterus. If they don't have a uterus, how can they shed blood and tissue from it?

Does it matter? Trans people are an extremely vulnerable minority that is persecuted on all fronts every day. Just let it go.

You're so right. Other cases where we should just ignore things vulnerable people say:

'I'm fine! I don't need more than 300 calories a day.' 'Of course, darling. Let me help you throw half of that bowl of soup away.'

'I believe I am invulnerable. The voices in my head have told me so. I am going to walk into the traffic to prove it.' 'Right-o. Do you want me to give you a push?'

'I hate brushing my teeth. I won't do it any more.' 'Oh, all right then. You're 2 now, quite old enough to know your own mind. I will be a good ally to you as you express your authentic self this way and I will start saving up now for the extensive dental treatment you will need when you are older.'

Surely Modibodi are on a fool's errand here (yes I will shoehorn in a Fleet Foxes reference), when they should be pivoting to the Adult Baby Diaper community .

The BBC report thread notes they covered this. Report from NHS Sussex University hospital trust (covers Brighton?) that TW breast milk was every bit as healthy as female breast milk.

internationalbreastfeedinginstitute.com/2024/02/trans-womens-milk-as-good-as-breast-milk-says-nhs-trust/

This is Orwellian. And enraging.
Brighton again. Quelle surprise.

And can the TERFs please bugger off with their ‘biological facts matter’ crap on this board. First off, a GCSE in biology does not make you an expert. The biology of chromosomes is actually far more complex, who knew! And let’s not even start on neurodevelopment, which is also biology. The fact is trans people have existed throughout history, so there is clearly a biological reason for them existing in all nations at all points through time, even if we don’t fully understand it. Screaming that people are lying or ignoring biology is wilful ignorance.

sorry for the rant, it has been a long day and I have truly had it with this hate filled nonsense which does real damage to people I love and their families.

Just awful.

It is mindblowing that society has let this be done to women and girls. Particularly at the younger, more impressionable end, who may not have the life experience to see how damaging it is.

Tbf I think they should double down and start selling a Tans Woman Period Kit that contains

  • chocolate because women always eat chocolate when they have a period,
  • tissues for all the weeping,
  • some pink pyjamas and fluffy pink slippers for all the lolling about women do when they have a period,
  • a hot water bottle with a fluffy pink cover for those cramps
  • a dvd of some soppy romance

This is the biggest flaw of the article basically saying anyone can menstruate…. We all know only women menstruate

StandFirm · 21/11/2025 18:08

AngelinaFibres · 21/11/2025 13:45

This. I'm on HRT tablets that I swallow daily and HRT I take vaginally ( everyday for 2 weeks initially then every 3 days). That's a nice lot of HRT and I feel well because of it. I never get ( nor have ever had) in the last 10 years of being on these drugs, a single twinge, cramp, discharge or anything remotely resembling anything menstrual of any kind and I am an actual woman and still have an actual uterus so how any of that could possibly happen to a biological man is ridiculous.

To be fair, taking hormones that are not naturally occurring in the body surely must have hefty side effects. HRT is meant for women and solves an intrisically female issue so of course you'd feel better for taking it. I can't imagine what sort of havoc would be wreaked by getting on a hefty course of testosterone or if I were a man, how female hormones would make me feel. That article takes something which has a degree of truth but twists it into something else (Having had adenomyosis for decades, reading this does make me think they're comparing apples and carrots).

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 21/11/2025 18:14

I’ve not read the whole thread but why was the even a question on their website anyway.

Are you experiencing menstruation? Yes. Then buy this product. No need to bring anything else into. Only those who have periods will need it so it, and 100% of those people will be people with a uterus.

Thats more acute than you might think!
Wouldn't this be typical of the way so many transwomen ape femininity by dressing up as exaggerated, cartoonish ladywomen, never as short-haired, lipstick-free hoodie ‘n’ jeans wearing regulars?
They want seem to want a fantasy of frills and furbelows, stilettos and false eyelashes, and imaginary female frailty wilting onto the nearest chaise longue.
Thus, a period care kit like you describe could be a huge money spinner!

(Im sure I recall a very famous British sex symbol years ago going on about buying Tampax after her menopause in order that visiting studs would see them in the bathroom and be reassured as to her likely age.
Wouldn’t this be a simpler ruse for trans women than ingesting alarming quantities of hormones?)

They are very much the 'I'm a lady you know' caricature of Little Britain ... that strange looking over the top male version of what a woman is. Again they got it wrong.

I had a hysterectomy years ago. I still get some hormonal symptoms, like sore breasts and weird headaches, but I haven’t had a period since - because I don’t have a uterus any more. They can fuck right off with “Trans women’s periods are just as real and valid as anyone else’s”. Of course they’re bloody not. The symptoms of an artificially induced hormonal fluctuation are a side-effect, not a fucking period.

Having a period feels totally normal and fine for many trans women. Some even find it deeply cathartic and validating.
“Cathartic and validating”? Fuck sake. I couldn’t leave the house on my heaviest days, and I had to set an alarm for the middle of the night to get up and change the pad and tampon I was using simultaneously, just to avoid ruining another mattress.
Great to have the option to “chat with your doctor about adjusting your hormonal regime so that it doesn’t trigger a noticeable cycle” though. Just like a real woman dealing with her (equally valid and almost identical) problematic period symptoms. 25+yrs of debilitating pain and anaemia, with periods lasting 7+ days on a 28 day cycle (and only when that became 9+ days every three weeks, with extra unexpected bleeding at random points, was I able to finally - after a bit of a battle - persuade my GP to refer me for further tests). Totally the same experience as “chat with your doctor about a simple tweak to make your self-inflicted symptoms entirely disappear!🥰” The similarities are uncanny; it must be so affirming and validating for them.

Being a good ally to trans women during their period means being respectful, understanding and supportive.
Understanding of WHAT exactly? What “support” does an attention-seeking male pretending to have a period need?

lifeturnsonadime · 21/11/2025 18:52

I'm so sick of men and their allies appropriating everything.

And @Caplin no, no I won't think of the poor men.

Men do not have periods, not even men who identify as trans women. I am very sorry that this upsets you so much you need to drink wine.

But seriously, if you can't see how offensive this nonsense is to women, I literally have no words.

Futurehappiness · 21/11/2025 18:54

It is hard to express just how furious all this makes me. I started periods when I was 13 and the first few years especially were very hard. I suffered from nausea and severe pain - the worst pain I have ever been in in my life (probably because I never went through a 'natural' childbirth).

Still had to get on with school/studies/work regardless. Like millions of other girls & women like me....there is no way any man can possibly understand, though it is no surprise that a few are arrogant enough to think they can. One of the 2 best things about being in my 60s (alongside less harassment from men) is no more periods.

If I was still having them I wouldn't touch Modibodi with a barge pole, and I hope through the power of MN the consequences of their insulting, belittling and patronising women come back to hit them hard. You would think that the provider of a service which is specifically dedicated to meeting the needs of girls and women, would be 100% focused on girls and women; if only because they constitute their customer base. But no.....instead women have to suffer this patronising claptrap exhorting us to focus on the needs of trans women instead and 'be a good ally' to them. Women must 'be kind' after all....even in managing a process which is exclusively about them, they are instructed to prioritise men.
