AIBU that this is the most ridiculous thing for a company to claim.

"Can a transgender woman have a period? Absolutely. Many trans and gender-diverse people menstruate. Whether you’re a woman, a man, non-binary or agender, your body may menstruate too."

I can only imagine why some biological males would buy period pants.

How?
How to transwomen have periods?
Where does the blood come from?🙄

They basically describe it as imaginary blood, and their underwear will make men transwomen feel 'supported and affirmed'Hmm

🤮

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 21/11/2025 12:55

Some years ago I came across a discussion on one transgender discussion group where men were saying they retrieved used sanpro and used it themselves. Presumably they put the tampons up their bums. There are few limits to what fetishists will do.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/11/2025 12:55

They can't. They are male and do not have a uterus. The company sounds really thick.

Trans men(born female) can have periods but not trans women (born male)

catontheironingboard · 21/11/2025 12:56

They’re not cheap, either! I actually have some Modibodi period pants, bought way back when they were one of the only companies making them. But no way would I buy from them again after reading this absolute nonsense. I don’t like to be lied to by brands who are courting my business whatever the subject. Treating your potential customer like a fool is not a good look…

Who are the 14 percent so far who think YABU? I hope they just read it differently.

I guess the AIBU was “is this the most ridiculous thing for a company to claim.” Perhaps the 14% know some companies with even more ridiculous ideas.

It’s arguably dangerous on a website that sells products for management of bleeding, to equate symptoms caused by artificial hormones with menstruation. The article doesn’t make If a trans woman is bleeding “down there”, then they need medical attention not a celebration of the “fact” they are menstruating.

It isn’t a natural cycle, it’s drug-induced. It could be a different cycle if the drugs were taken differently. It’s only a month because these blokes have some weird fetish about wanting to simulate the experience of women. You could call it “CAHD” for cyclical artificial hormone deregulation instead.

Next thing we’ll be signing them up hysterectomies!

”oh don’t worry, we cut a track up the middle and yanked something out. It’s not actually a womb as you don’t have one, so I’m not exactly sure what we’ve chopped out I’m sure you’ll be in months of pain and struggle to walk for a while, just like a real woman!”

charcoalandsugar · 21/11/2025 12:57

JudgeBread · 21/11/2025 12:44

It's the one thing that as a woman if I had the power to give it to a man I absolutely would. If you want to spend a week every month cramping, bleeding, headachey and nauseous and dealing with the absolute joy that is period shits by God here you go, take it from me.

Alas with all the will in the world, it's not to be.

Apparently they do cramp just not bleed. I wonder what is cramping then?

RisenWhine · 21/11/2025 12:58

I see what they’ve tried to do, but they’ve done it wrong.

trans women cannot menstruate, menstruation is literally the process of blood and tissue thickening then shedding from the uterus, something which trans women do not have.

they can however get PMS. Trigger by the synthetic hormones they take.

ditalini · 21/11/2025 12:58

Even if a transwoman chose to cycle their hormone prescription to cause a drop in estrogen towards the middle of the month, and even if that led to some physical phenomena that were the same as some women experience when they're having their actual period, it wouldn't include bleeding into their pants so they wouldn't need to buy Modibodi's products.

At best, Modibodi are spreading misinformation for woke points and grasping at a (tiny) market share. At worst they could be encouraging men to ignore symptoms that might be signs of disease, and indulging a fetish on their webpages. Grim.

I clicked so you don't have to
(and I expect this post to be deleted but hey ho)

Yes, anyone can get their period, trans women included
Menstruation, often referred to as a period, is a part of many people’s lives. Defined as the periodic discharge of blood and tissue from the uterus, menstruation is just one stage of the larger menstrual cycle, which typically takes place over 28 days.

Can a transgender woman have a period? Absolutely. Many trans and gender-diverse people menstruate. Whether you’re a woman, a man, non-binary or agender, your body may menstruate too.
This article explores the different ways trans women get their period and provides some tips on navigating your cycle.
Got a trans woman or trans girl in your life who you want to support? There are some pointers in here for you, too.
Who are trans women?
Everyone’s experience with gender is unique and personal. You’ve probably heard of gender identity, which is all about how you feel on the inside. This is a bit different to gender expression, which is how you show your gender to the world through things like your actions, style and body characteristics.
How does this relate to being trans? Well, trans is a term that can describe people whose gender differs from what was presumed for them at birth. A trans woman is someone who is a woman and who was assigned male at birth.
Note: some trans people see ‘being trans’ not as an identity as such, but more a as history or experience.
Do trans women have periods?
Many trans women have periods. Some trans women don’t have uteruses, so they won’t bleed as part of a monthly menstrual cycle. But the hormonal experience of menstruation can still be very real.
Some trans women undergo gender-affirming treatment in the form of feminising hormones. These hormones can result in a range of physical and emotional symptoms, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Appetite changes
  • Bloating due to water retention
  • Cramping
  • Tiredness and fatigue
  • Listlessness
  • Mood swings
These symptoms may occur at the same time each month, just like premenstrual syndrome (PMS). For many trans women, this is their period. Having a period feels totally normal and fine for many trans women. Some even find it deeply cathartic and validating. But if your period symptoms are upsetting you, chat with your doctor about adjusting your hormonal regime so that it doesn’t trigger a noticeable cycle. Tips for navigating your period as a trans woman Here are some top tips for managing your period as a trans woman:
  • Track your hormonal cycle: Use a tracker app like Clue to keep tabs on your cycle and any related symptoms. This is a quick and easy way to feel more prepared and in control.
  • Wear period underwear: By offering a sense of comfort, freedom and security, period underwear can help you feel comfortable, affirmed and empowered throughout your cycle. Check out our Women’s briefs and All Gender collection.
  • Do what makes you feel affirmed: Whether it’s seeing friends, experimenting with different self-care activities or indulging in your fave comfort food, do what makes you feel good during this time. It’s all about embracing who you are inside and feeling comfortable in your own skin.
  • Seek support when you need it: Trans women’s periods are not well understood just yet, so you might encounter changes in your body that are seemingly out of the blue. If you ever get worried, consult your doctor.
How to support trans women during their period Being a good ally to trans women during their period means being respectful, understanding and supportive. Here are some keyways to be there for them:
  • Be kind towards the trans women in your life, and acknowledge their experience as women. Respect their names, pronouns and bodies.
  • Create a safe space for them to share their feelings and concerns. Sometimes, all we need is a friend who gets it, so listen with an open mind and heart.
  • Educate yourself about trans experiences, including menstruation, and help correct misinformation. (TransHub, Twenty10 and local LGBTQIA+ community centres are good places to start.)
  • Avoid asking invasive or personal questions that may make someone uncomfortable.
  • Practice patience and empathy. Remember, everyone’s experience is unique, so it’s always better to ask questions than make assumptions.
Period care is for everyone Bottom line is, people of all genders menstruate. Trans women’s periods are just as real and valid as anyone else’s, so whether it’s tracking your hormonal cycle, slipping on some comfy period underwear or checking in with your doc, do what makes you feel supported and affirmed through your cycle’s ups and downs.

You don't need special underwear for that

But PMS is pre menstrual syndrome so no they can’t get that!

better to say they have cyclical hormone syndrome.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/11/2025 13:02

I particularly ‘like’ the bit that says ‘some trans women don’t have uteruses.’

😂😂
I wonder whether whoever wrote this tripe has the first clue about basic biology?

Alas, an awful lot of people, who are not necessarily uneducated, are equally clueless. My own dh (science degree, further prof. qualifications) said at the height of the ‘trans’ debate, that he supposed it could be possible for a trans woman to ‘grow a uterus’.

Didn’t some fairly eminent politician say much the same?

Needless to say, I soon put dh straight.

"Can a transgender woman have a period?
It doesn't say transwoman. It says transgender woman i.e. transman.

Nope

"How does this relate to being trans? Well, trans is a term that can describe people whose gender differs from what was presumed for them at birth.
A trans woman is someone who is a woman and who was assigned male at birth. "

So he the be-penised is his bleeding out of his non-existent female reproductive organ and having the magical 28ish day hormone changes to release his female gamate.

Its just another "womans" product that is selling stunning and brave to men and fuck you to women

Edit for format

god they are being disingenuous there.
They aren't talking about transwomen mensturating. They have couched it in terms that makes it seem like that, presumably to stop the backlash before it happens.

Trans people do mensturate though. Transmen. And since the non-binary people also come under the transumbrella, so do the female bodied ones among them.

Word salad. But it does flag up a company to avoid if you don't like this kind of piffle.

QueenClinomania · 21/11/2025 13:04

Regardless how you feel, you don't need period pants if you don't bleed. End of story.

However, not needing them doesn't mean not wanting them. This just seems like a cynical plot to get more sales.

briq · 21/11/2025 13:04

Grow a uterus! 😂 I wish it were possible to magically grow new, healthy organs as needed!
