So who is going to be brave enough to ask whether Shabana Mahmood's proposed reforms are right/sensible/racist?

Is Shabana Mahmood right or wrong to restrict asylum seeker's rights? In general?

Yes, and with the UK economy shedding over 150 jobs per day, I’d say the issue isn’t as much benefits and welfare reform so much as job creation.

Interesting point. The contrast couldn't be more stark.

When Britain was at war the men of this country didn't run away to seek asylum. They stayed and fought. The women didn't flee either. Children were moved to the countryside but stayed in the UK.

We weren’t exactly invaded though were we? Things would have been very different if Nazis had rolled in like they did to Poland, Greece and France.

I think you are a little out of touch of the men we have in the UK now...

Most people in France, Poland, Greece etc didn't flee. Those that did were the elderly, sick, women, children. It wasn't fighting aged men.

We do. There are quite a few MoD bases nearby.

Would you be ok if they were turned into barracks for asylum purposes?

How does he know their immigration status on sight? He wouldn’t be engaging in a bit of racial profiling now would he?

OrangesCinammonIvy · 16/11/2025 22:14

Thankfully she's also apparently looking at the definitions of asylum seekers.
We need new definitions for the new landscape we face.

We the UK should be able to chose who we give priority too rather than housing self selection of thousands of men foisted on us each week.

Sure. Then maybe there wouldn’t be so many rapes.

Er, actually it was the fighting age men that fled.
You haven’t read your history have you.

It tends to be obvious. There's so many in some areas there's even a name for them - freshies.

And any technicality can give a reason for someone to stay like the famous chicken nugget case.

🥴 pray tell, please share the critical thinking that goes into visually identifying a “migrant” vs a British citizen?

is it a checklist that starts with

  • pasty complexion but not ginger?

This is where the Home office must buck up their ideas. Plus, I think if I had to choose over living in a war torn country or not, I'd say I was gay or a Christian too. I think many would, it's called self-preservation.

@SummerFeverVenice really worked and still need UC ?
I'm sure places like austriala require you to support yourself.

OrangesCinammonIvy · 16/11/2025 22:22

@Happyjoe oh no I'm mean people whose countries were never at war or no longer at war etc
The eccomic migrants .

Don't tell me, going to tell me about Sharia courts now?!
What you're writing is total fear-mongering bollocks.

I live in an area where there are increasing numbers of women going around with their faces covered. Where little girls are made to wear restrictive, long clothing and have their heads covered, whilst their brothers are free to run and climb and play without such restrictive clothing. A new mosque has recently been built, with more space given to men than women (and I heard from a Muslim woman that there are mosques in the UK that do not allow women in at all!!)
A former colleague of mine was brought to the UK aged 13 (late 90s/2000) to marry an older man who had grown up here.

I am not imagining these things. They have no place in the UK. It scares me that the numbers are increasing and I believe we need to act now (in fact should have done years ago) rather than realise years down the line that it's too late.

I think if you had 600 young men living in a hotel or barracks in your town or village you might notice them.

The residents of Crowborough whose homes became worthless overnight 😬
