DD14 just lost 10kg, went down from 62 to 52kg (she's pretty petite, only 160 cm tall) and wants to buy herself this top since she's now at a healthy weight for her age and was putting off buying new tops earlier because she didn't want them to stop fitting her: https://www.victoriassecret.co.uk/style/su826145/w96067

My sister thinks it's 'obscene' and a 'lingerie ad' as well as 'something she saw on social media' which is complete nonsense because she uses one of those granny flip phones and isn't on social media except discord, spotify and IRC (no idea if those count)

I don't see the problem honestly, there's nothing obscene about lingerie if you ask me in the 1st place, and VS has always made clothes

This is a photo of the top in the colour she wants it:

Gosh if your sister thinks thats obscene she’d take a fit at some of the tops my 12 year old is trying to get Oked for the teenage disco.

EdithBond · 15/11/2025 02:17

Obscene? Take it your sister is a little straight-laced - and missed out on punk?

Why’s she even commenting on what your daughter wears?

maralagagirl · 15/11/2025 02:17

Oh well. I did try to warn you who your are supporting. Ignored. Have her wear the top.

maralagagirl · 15/11/2025 02:20
  • you
  • try Lex Wagner
Peridoteage · 15/11/2025 02:20

Its just a teeshirt. Yes its slightly tacky walking round with an underwear branded tee-shirt but i wore far worse as a teenager. Its not revealing or uncomfortable etc.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 15/11/2025 02:27

Better than the Playboy stuff that was everywhere in the 90s.

Tell your sister that aunties are supposed to be cooler than mums.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/11/2025 02:30

Hmmmm my pic is too racy it seems as not approved yet

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 15/11/2025 02:31

I own that shirt and it’s cute.

People need to chill.

The "you" was a correction. The second thing was google "Lex Wagner" . Thank goodness he's not Australian!!!! Also google Roy Raymond. Not a company I'd want my daughter advertising.

However, whilst gender critical beliefs are protected under the Equality Act 2010 as a philosophical belief, this does not mean that other people must remain in a space where they feel offended or distressed by those views.
“Whether to remain in such a space is a matter of personal, individual choice for councillors or anyone else to make for themselves.”

These are elected officials walking out of a meeting because they don’t like what they’re hearing, and are taking offense at the truth? They believe that their job as elected officials isn’t to listen to all of their constituents concerns? How do these people get elected seriously?

Wrong thread @HardyNavyBear ?

maralagagirl · 15/11/2025 02:57

Sorry , sorry. LeS Wexner!

maralagagirl · 15/11/2025 03:47

I just don't know why I'd put the name of a company owned by "dodgy - cough cough" billionaires and pay twice the price on my childs chest? I'm the same about sport brands etc, but it took me a while. I figured it out 15 years ago. I'd love to hear the reasoning for letting your child be a walking free ad which you paid a lot for as well. Just stop buying it unless it's half price, even better just stop buying altogether. Rhinestone tops are not hard to come by. I've been arguing this for years but nothing has changed, so buy the top OP. If it makes your child happy. What's the harm? Check under the label where it is made. Its going to be Bangladesh or Vietnam etc. I've kind of given up. People will buy what they want. The people must be entertained.

realsavagelike · 15/11/2025 03:50

I'm sure there are quite a few Inspiral Carpets fans from the very early 90's who were denied the 'Cool as F**k' cow shirt or suffered the travesty of having their t shirt 'disappeared' by their outraged parents. Good times.

maralagagirl · 15/11/2025 04:23

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 15/11/2025 02:31

I own that shirt and it’s cute.

People need to chill.

People need to learn where their clothes are made. ( Asia - where the women are lucky to get a break to go to the loo) and the companies are owned by mostly Arab / Western billionaires. You go enjoy that victoria's secret shirt.

TimeForATerf · 15/11/2025 05:06

To the OP, VS perfumes are great - for spraying round the loo after use. Foul stuff.

Maureenwasacat · 15/11/2025 05:18

Your sister is a prude.
A teenage girl has a belly button?? Alert the church elders!

TheSeventh · 15/11/2025 05:26

Tesco sells underwear, are my carrier bags obscene? Other than the price of them now!

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 15/11/2025 05:27

OP, you say she is at private school? I work in a private school and believe be, this would be a modest and tasteful tshirt!

The girls often wear actual lingerie, under a puffa jacket, paired with pyjama bottoms and uggs. It's called fashion!

Also I'm 47 and buy my bras from VS they are amazing and way better fitting than M&S!

Jigglyhuffpuff · 15/11/2025 05:32

Yabu for saying "granny flip phones".

Flip phones were amazing.

mickandrorty · 15/11/2025 05:38

I couldn't get clenched up about this I remember girls all wearing playboy and FCUK and walking around with juicy splattered all over their backsides (which it would seem is coming back?!)

maralagagirl · 15/11/2025 05:43

Nobody knew then where they were made. We do now. I can give you a list of documentaries about women ( it's always the women) basically slave labour, and if the place burns down , Ooopsie. If people in rich countries stopped buying stuff from Asia, and no doubt it will be Africa next, then the market would evaporate.
Do you want the list of horror or just happy to put on your cheap top?

WellYouWereMythTaken · 15/11/2025 05:45

Virtually every teenage girl is obsessed with VS. Or they were a few years ago at least, when my eldest was your daughter’s age. If this is all yours wants to buy from there I’d count it as a win personally. Your sister is being weird and I’d tell her to pipe down.
