To allow DD to buy this 'obscene' top?

DD14 just lost 10kg, went down from 62 to 52kg (she's pretty petite, only 160 cm tall) and wants to buy herself this top since she's now at a healthy weight for her age and was putting off buying new tops earlier because she didn't want them to stop fitting her: https://www.victoriassecret.co.uk/style/su826145/w96067

My sister thinks it's 'obscene' and a 'lingerie ad' as well as 'something she saw on social media' which is complete nonsense because she uses one of those granny flip phones and isn't on social media except discord, spotify and IRC (no idea if those count)

I don't see the problem honestly, there's nothing obscene about lingerie if you ask me in the 1st place, and VS has always made clothes

This is a photo of the top in the colour she wants it:

The t-shirt itself is absolutely fine. It’s a standard normal ladies t-shirt. I don’t think it’s obscene.

However the logo does change that a little - not to the point of obscenity - but with Victoria’s Secret being known generally as a sexy lingerie brand, not a general clothing brand. It’s not Ann Summers sexy, but it’s also not a standard brand like Chantelle or triumph.

I would assume the interest in wearing this logo t-shirt is to signal to others that you shop there for sexy lingerie. Do you think that is the case?

IF yes, why do think there’s any harm in your 14 year old wanting to signal that?

justasking111 · 15/11/2025 05:48

I've been looking at tween clothing for grand daughters. Jakers it's a minefield dress wise so sexy. Their mum has the same issue. That grey teeshirt is so tame compared to a lot of stuff

Virtually every teenage girl is obsessed with VS. Or they were a few years ago at least, when my eldest was your daughter’s age. If this is all yours wants to buy from there I’d count it as a win personally. Your sister is being weird and I’d tell her to pipe down.

Talking to myself obviously. Asian people are real. Buying stuff super cheap makes their lives a misery. I note nobody has even bothered to pretend they are in the right. I appreciate the lack of hypocrisy I guess.

Fiftyandme · 15/11/2025 05:49

Oh FGS. It’s a t-shirt. Is the lingerie ad ideal? No. Would I let my 14 year old wear it - likely no. Is it ‘obscene’? No, your sister is ridiculous

maralagagirl · 15/11/2025 05:51

Talking to myself . Again. I hate to be histrionic but do you have no shame????
Obviously not.
Colonialists never change their spots apparently.

Again ignoring me, just lke everyone else from the UK. I think it's shame

Hardly obscene, though I hate VS with a passion.

It’s a shame the world is full of people expecting everyone to hone in on them with a laser sharp focus, hanging in their every word and nodding furiously.

Don’t be so bloody ridiculous and histrionic, I’ve not even seen your post.

maralagagirl · 15/11/2025 06:02

It's OK. We don't care anymore. The reason we aren't a republic is because we are so ridiculously easygoing. I plan to change that. You can keep Charles and Andy and Eugenie and Bwhatever with the stupid hat. I'm going to check if any money goes from us to you guys. If so I will run for parliament.
And you can keep your pervy billionaires too. At least we throw ours out. Stupid European countries that take anyone with money .

I was answering the OP’s question about her daughter’s taste in T-shirts. Hadn’t seen your post so wasn’t ignoring you probably will now though. Maybe start your own thread? Or have a lie down.

maralagagirl · 15/11/2025 06:03

ok

TheaBrandt1 · 15/11/2025 06:09

Is this a joke thread? It’s a grey t shirt. Yout sister would expire with a fit of the vapours if she saw what my dds and their friends wear. And shock horror many of the friends are also privately educated!

Then the crazy angry poster posting about colonialists?! Insane.

abracadabra1980 · 15/11/2025 06:12

Is your sister a total nurd? FGS there is nothing offensive whatsoever about this t-shirt and the fact is says VS on it it irrelevant - she'll think its really cool. Would you rather she went out in nude leggings that you can see her camel toe in? And tell your sister to get a life.

Speakingofthis · 15/11/2025 06:13

I'd never, ever in a million years let my 14 year old daughter wear this. I'd completely ban her from wearing it.
But that's because I would never let my DD wear a brand across her chest that's owned by a man who had a very close relationship for years with a man who was a paedophile, a rapist and a sex trafficker, who flew frequently on his private planes where girls were sexually abused, who stayed on his rape island, and whose name frequently appears on the files, and whom a sex trafficked 17 year old girl says she was forced to have sex with.
As for the style and fit of the top....whatever.
But the logo......it would be a hard no from me.
@maggie2k maybe your sister has morals in line with mine.

GrandmasCat · 15/11/2025 06:16

It is just a t-shirt advertising lingerie. I don’t have a problem with it being a t-shirt but VS? Really? I have worn the brand for more than 30 years but I would find it a bit tacky wearing something with their logo across my chest…
(surely.., I don’t want the world and their dog to know my underwear preferences 😁)

FigTreeInEurope · 15/11/2025 06:39

It would be great is your Dd was called Victoria! Not offensive at all. I'm sure if you dig into the owners of Nike and Adidas you'll find moral qualms to debate.. unless she's going to exclusively wear fair trade organic hemp, woven by indigenous mountain goat herders.

LaserPumpkin · 14/11/2025 23:46

It’s better than the FCUK ones everyone used to wear back in the day

Or the trousers with Juicy Couture written across the bum. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Theroadt · 15/11/2025 06:43

Really important to let her choose her clothes unless seriously unsuitable. I’m 58, and my domineering mother chose my clothes - when I bought my own after a Saturday job they vanished in the wash. I now just wear black and hate choosing clothes bbecause my judgment was never supported at a young age.

Speakingofthis · 15/11/2025 06:53

Really shocked so many women on this thread support a 14 year old wearing a brand across her chest supporting Les Wexner.
Utterly depressing.

PortSalutPlease · 15/11/2025 06:55

There’s nothing obscene about it but people will probably assume it’s a pyjama top 🤷‍♀️

ClashCityRocker · 15/11/2025 06:57

It's not obscene at all. At worst, slightly questionable taste but that's what being a teen is all about!

I remember as a teen we all used to carry our PE kits in La Senza (now defunct) bags and draw the playboy bunny over everything...

Ratafia · 15/11/2025 06:59

purpleme12 · 15/11/2025 00:03

While I wouldn't describe it as obscene, it is always going to make someone think of underwear isn't it. well that's what I think with Victoria's Secret.
At 14 I'm not sure I'd want my daughter wearing that

What is the problem with thinking of underwear?

Ratafia · 15/11/2025 07:03

You're going to have a major problem running for Parliament if you're Australian

alecks · 15/11/2025 07:10

It’s loungewear, VS sell underwear and pyjamas. It’s not intended for wearing outside, perhaps that’s the issue?

Sometimeswinning · 15/11/2025 07:15

Callwaiting2025 · 15/11/2025 00:23

Oh and yes at her age it probably is to appeal to boys, which is fine and normal. It's not obscene, and it does not cross any boundaries at all.

My dd would go mad at the suggestion that anything she did was for anyone but herself.

VS just happens to be a good name for teenagers. My dd wants the very expensive pjs from there which no boy will be seeing.

The sprays are very nice. Kids got me a bottle for my birthday.
