To allow DD to buy this 'obscene' top?

DD14 just lost 10kg, went down from 62 to 52kg (she's pretty petite, only 160 cm tall) and wants to buy herself this top since she's now at a healthy weight for her age and was putting off buying new tops earlier because she didn't want them to stop fitting her: https://www.victoriassecret.co.uk/style/su826145/w96067

My sister thinks it's 'obscene' and a 'lingerie ad' as well as 'something she saw on social media' which is complete nonsense because she uses one of those granny flip phones and isn't on social media except discord, spotify and IRC (no idea if those count)

I don't see the problem honestly, there's nothing obscene about lingerie if you ask me in the 1st place, and VS has always made clothes

Are the perfumes good? I've been looking for some cheap nice perfumes

I’ve only smelled the one my daughter has, but it’s perfectly nice and she’s asked for another for Christmas. They are about twenty quid.

AutumnAllTheWay · 14/11/2025 23:50

Better than the wonderbras with half open shirts we wore in the 90s

AdoraBell · 14/11/2025 23:50

What exactly is obscene about a T-shirt?

JemimaTiggywinkles · 14/11/2025 23:51

It isn’t obscene but it’s advertising underwear. I’d discourage but not ban it. Girls deserve better than trends which rely on them ‘selling’ sex.

maggie2k · 14/11/2025 23:47

Oh I remember those! Are they still even around lmfao

I remember someone in my year 6 class having a Playboy pencil case!

surely underwear isn't sex though, i have a VS bra and the last thing that goes through my brain when putting it on is sex

It’s a tshirt. I’m not a fan of VS for many reasons, but as clothes go it’s obviously not obscene.

ChewbaccasMrs · 14/11/2025 23:57

It's a t-shirt does your sister think she's living in the 1800s?

There's nothing wrong with it at all.

Jasperis · 14/11/2025 23:57

Would she wear one with Ann Summers on the front? Similar places to me. Yet it would seem a bit inappropriate for school. Maybe that's what your sister is getting at.

Doesn't ann summers sell sex toys though? I don't think vs does

I agree with your sister. As for wearing it to school, i have no words.

maggie2k · 14/11/2025 23:59

hermanne · 14/11/2025 23:57

IRC? Is it the 90s?

She's a bit of a geek and likes all those tech web chats and retro stuff that's what got her into this sort of fashion in the 1st place Grin she's adamant she has 'nostalgia' for the 2000s despite being born in 2011 rofl

The type of underwear sold in VS and Ann Summers is totally different.

MincePudding · 15/11/2025 00:02

It's sooooooo tacky, but in exactly the way that makes it cool to teens and not middle aged women! We are SO not the demographic! Let her have her youth x

EmeraldShamrock000 · 15/11/2025 00:02

I was expecting to see a very different top.
It's a short T-shirt.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/11/2025 00:03

Your DSis is mad as it's a t shirt nothing obscene about it,

Not really the same, is it? Ann Summers sells cock rings and tassels for your nipples. VS sell tiny but at least functional underwear.

purpleme12 · 15/11/2025 00:03

While I wouldn't describe it as obscene, it is always going to make someone think of underwear isn't it. well that's what I think with Victoria's Secret.
At 14 I'm not sure I'd want my daughter wearing that

Is that it? A plain grey T-shirt with tiny writing on it. Biscuit

GAJLY · 15/11/2025 00:03

PinkPonyClubDancer · 14/11/2025 23:42

It’s just a tshirt. VS is very popular with a lot of teens. I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Agree with this 👆

EmeraldShamrock000 · 15/11/2025 00:04

It is great her confidence is growing, good for her.
