To allow DD to buy this 'obscene' top?

DD14 just lost 10kg, went down from 62 to 52kg (she's pretty petite, only 160 cm tall) and wants to buy herself this top since she's now at a healthy weight for her age and was putting off buying new tops earlier because she didn't want them to stop fitting her: https://www.victoriassecret.co.uk/style/su826145/w96067

My sister thinks it's 'obscene' and a 'lingerie ad' as well as 'something she saw on social media' which is complete nonsense because she uses one of those granny flip phones and isn't on social media except discord, spotify and IRC (no idea if those count)

I don't see the problem honestly, there's nothing obscene about lingerie if you ask me in the 1st place, and VS has always made clothes

This is a photo of the top in the colour she wants it:

Gosh, shocking 😮

lizzieq · 18/11/2025 16:58

I saw a pair of tracksuit bottoms yesterday with the word Juicy being sucked into a backside😂 You couldn't see the i. This t shirt not an issue.

Shouldbedoing · 18/11/2025 18:50

I'm guessing the Tshirt is affordable because it's basically an advertisement for Victoria's secret. It also reminds me of a pyjama top.
Having been sneered at for my C & A clothes at boarding school in 1979, I soon went on to learn that entry level 'designer labels' do not get you into the cool crowd either.
There are many nicer items she could spend her money on, sorry.

The same applies to tops depicting the names Levis, Tommy Hillfiger and Armani to name a few.

There may be “nicer” items (but that is opinonated) that she could wear, but that’s individual choice. She wants this top and there is nothing obscene about it. M&S sell thongs, sheer knickers and push up “scaffolding” bras but nobody suggests that is a reason not to wear M&S clothes.

Well for a start off it looks uniformly smart.
There is no worry what you are going to wear the next day, that is taken out of the equation.
Think about like Steve Jobs and his 40 polos in the same colour.
It helps against bullying for those not wearing the latest trends.
Many schools also resell their uniform so all in all the cost is actually less than wearing different street clothes.
It also helps with a sense of belonging to their particular school.
Also for those of an autistic nature it removes that worry.
Not sure what you mean about fetish as that is rather concerning, whilst it has two meanings, I hope you don’t mean the most widely accepted meaning of the word.

Uniform was fucking horrible for me as an autistic kid. Never fit properly and the fabrics were incredibly uncomfortable with all the synthetics, horrible feeling and not breathable, blazer that only got washed twice a year because it was dry-clean only and we couldn't afford to get it done - I hated wearing a tie and nylon socks that never fitted because whomever decided on the uniform didn't realise that sometimes girls have adult height and adult-size feet. And that's before we consider the PE uniforms we had to wear which seemed almost designed to make teenage girls feel uncomfortable in their bodies.

Re: the t-shirt - I think VS is a naff company (they are notoriously shit at bra-fitting and perpetuate the idea that DD is the biggest bra size, plus dodgy labour practices) but it's not my money and it's hardly a Playboy logo, innit.

It’s not obscene at all and she should wear what she wants but I do wince a bit at the free advertising women and girls give to a company that was founded ‘to create a male-friendly environment enabling men to feel comfortable choosing excitingly exotic undergarments for their female partners or mistresses.’.

lol as if men know the first thing about bra sizes in the first place

DownThePubWithStevieNicks · 18/11/2025 19:17

The reason she wants it is because it says VS on it. Otherwise it’s a very boring top for a teen.

I don’t like VS, but it’s clearly not obscene. It’s the name of a (crap, ugly) underwear brand, not underwear itself!

In the 90s, teens wore tops with the playboy logo on. That was gross. This is just a teen wanting to pay way over the odds for a tacky T-shirt.

Shopaholic88 · 18/11/2025 20:28

When I was that age it was the ‘too tired to fcuk’ T-shirts were all the rage I don’t see the issue with the VIctorias secret logo

Your sister sounds unhinged, not that it matters as it’s got sod all to do with her anyway

This. Your sister sounds utterly batshit. Obscene? Wtf, it’s a plain grey brand T-shirt. Has she teleported from Victorian times? She sounds like she has major issues!

But it is not the same, is it? They are all brands that sell quality clothes, but VS sells crotchless knickers amongst other things, and is known to sell 'adult' nightwear and lingerie and good luck to them, less Viagra will be needed. It's like that store that was forced to withdraw 'Little Miss Naughty' nightwear.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 14/11/2025 23:51

It isn’t obscene but it’s advertising underwear. I’d discourage but not ban it. Girls deserve better than trends which rely on them ‘selling’ sex.

Young girls like the perfume

Why are you assuming she wants in the “ cool club”?
It’s a cute tee and she wants one. You’re massively projecting.

Nopenott0day · 20/11/2025 19:32

I was genuinely expecting something like the Cradle of Filth nun t shirt. 😂
