Neighbour heard everything!

So I have been divorced a year and have been talking to a guy for a good while (we have met a few times prior to this) anyway, we ended up back to my house one night and my neighbour heard the whole thing. To the point where she knocked on the wall. I want to die of embarrassment, I saw her the other morning and she usually says hi, nothing, I think she now hates me.

OP posts:
Andregroup · 11/11/2025 20:25

I had a neighbour who did this a couple of times. I stopped short of knocking, but then she broke up with that boyfriend, and soon after, moved, so I never had to. But I would have had to do something because I had a young child, and it was only a matter of time before it woke said child up at night and I didn't know how I was going to explain it.

Yeah this. ^ No-one wants to hear your moans and groans and whining while you're having sex @Soembarrassedd 🙄

I always think people are trying to prove something when they're noisy having sex. It's almost always the woman too. Rarely the man howling. Yeah we get it babe, you're shagging. Big deal, almost everyone has done it luv. Wink

Be more quiet. No-one cares that you're shagging, it's just the attention-seeking 'hey look everyone I'm having a shag' screaming and wailing that people don't want to hear. It is NOT 'envy!' 🙄

I find it pathetic personally.

Jesus, who pissed in your weetabix?

Are you the neighbour?.

Soembarrassedd · 11/11/2025 18:52

I was not moaning, it was the bed

Well this changes things! She got that funny about a squeaky bed?! You shouldn't even be embarrassed OP.

Oh wow it's you jumping to ridiculous conclusions, that's surprising.

Listen OP there's nothing you can do about it and it's not like it was on purpose. I thought when I read the title you had a big noisy fight. I would just continue to say hello and smile until she thaws.

Are you seeing him again?

JohnofWessex · 11/11/2025 21:29

I once had a neighbour

When he said 'did the earth move for you ' I nearly shouted yes on several occasions

Obviously you're too busy feverishly batch cooking to do anything else, but the rest of us aren't quite such prudes.

It was the look she gave me, I felt so rubbish

Nothing to feel rubbish about at all.
Take care and enjoy your new lease of life

AntitheticalDreamgirl · 11/11/2025 19:55

I'll be noisy wherever I want in my own home. It's not like it's obscenely loud. I can hear her masturbating every night so why should I wear a gag during sex?

How on earth can you hear someone masturbating?

AntitheticalDreamgirl · 11/11/2025 23:28

Jane143 · 11/11/2025 23:27

Because she plugs her mains operated vibrator in, the vibration comes on, and seconds later she's moaning through the wall. I also hear her hoovering and walking up the stairs when she does those things too.

That’s crazy behaviour!

PixieTales · 11/11/2025 23:39

I use to have to hear my upstairs neighbour have performative loud sex and it was honestly the most disgusting intrusive thing I’ve experienced from a neighbour. She gave zero fucks and it was very uncomfortable living there for 2 years putting up with it till I could move.

Some people have no shame or morals. Not saying that’s the case with you OP.

BauhausOfEliott · 12/11/2025 00:02

LOL at all the people saying ‘Ewww, gross, attention-seeking, performative, you must have been sooooo loud, what if the innocent little kiddiwinks heard you?’

The OP has said she wasn’t moaning or screaming and that it was simply the bed creaking that her neighbour heard. Beds will do that. There isn’t much you can do about it.

Second, sound carries very easily in a lot of semi-detached or terraced houses, especially at night, and sometimes people are going to hear things. Short of having the most boring, passionless and uptight silent sex life imaginable, which frankly I’m really not going to condemn myself to, there’s not much that can be done about it.

My current next door neighbours have got four kids whose noise is incredibly irritating. If I have to listen their yowling brats and their stupid Baby Shark song every day, I’m not going to reduce my sex life to one of total silence, sorry. If the kids hear us fucking I’m sure the parents can up a plausible PG explanation for the sound; it’s really not my problem.

Dillydollydingdong · 12/11/2025 00:04

Maybe she's jealous.

Ivy888 · 12/11/2025 07:41

Soembarrassedd · 11/11/2025 12:37

Occasionally I can yes but never heard anything like that, just the dog etc.

If you hear the neighbour’s dog, did it never occur to you that she’d also hear things in your house?

are you more miffed by the fact she clearly heard you, or that she seems to be ignoring you? Are you t really sure she is ignoring you? (How was the contact previously?). If she is truely ignoring you, have you considered that you might be banging her ex or a family member (or maybe even partner)?

Jane143 · 12/11/2025 08:21

If it was just the bed banging on the wall there’s a chance she didn’t even realise you were having sex especially if you are single. Maybe she thought you were doing DIY at that time of night which is why she knocked on the wall? I think I would just speak to her about it and clear the air

Didimum · 12/11/2025 08:28

I think it’s ridiculous to blank you forevermore because she heard sex on one occasion. She knocked on wall, you can now be mindful to keep it down – that’s all that’s needed. If she’s going to now blacklist you then you don’t need people like that in your life anyway. Let her continue if that’s who she is.

On the other hand she might just be very embarrassed and always as to how to carry on as normal again.

ItIsNotTheDog · 12/11/2025 08:53

Try and see the funny side of it. Sex shouldn't be embarrassing.
When I lived in a narrow house with very thin walls I once had a night when both neighbours from either side were at it, sex sounds in stereo.

Branleuse · 12/11/2025 09:21

I had a neighbour try to shame me when she heard me and my husband have loudish sex once many years ago. She never said hello to me again after that, although her partner still did.

Its just one of those things. Try to remember that youve done nothing wrong.

quiet sex is not pruddish, just considerate

DurinsBane · 12/11/2025 11:36

Fountofwisdom · 11/11/2025 18:48

Totally agree. It’s attention-seeking and selfish behaviour.

Maybe some women can’t help it?

Usernamenotav · 12/11/2025 11:59

Tricky one really because you're in your own house. But I personally find screamers highly annoying and can't understand the necessity of it. And if my kids heard that I'd be fuming.
You said you've heard noises from her before so if you knew that the sound travels you should have kept it down. But you're clearly not being an arse about it and haven't been that loud again so I'd just forget about it if I were you. She'll get over it and if she doesn't then that's not your problem.

Usernamenotav · 12/11/2025 12:04

Soembarrassedd · 11/11/2025 17:22

My children were at their dads at the time and I just feel like such a bad person like she thinks I’m a bad mum because of it

You seem to be holding sole shame around sex which you need to let go of. The only thing you've done wrong is not considered the noise level. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the act itself. If mums that have sex are bad mums then anyone with more than 1 kids is bad.

Usernamenotav · 12/11/2025 12:08

Soembarrassedd · 11/11/2025 18:52

Waitttt you said sex noises?? A bed hitting a wall isn't a sex noise.
This has just become completely ridiculous all of a sudden.

AntitheticalDreamgirl · 12/11/2025 14:06

Jane143 · 11/11/2025 23:34

That’s crazy behaviour!

I'm sure she hears when I come up the stairs or hoover as well. I don't think she's "particularly" loud, the walls must just be quite thin. I don't think I'm a particularly loud person either and I purposely don't have the TV or bed or anything else on connecting walls, because I'm aware of how thin the walls are.
