I bought 3 tickets to a show this weekend, for me & DD + a friend of her choice. I paid for them all (£50+ each) but told the mum of invited friend that I didn’t want any contribution. All good.

Now the friend unfortunately can’t make it (legit reason). I mentioned that I’d probably be able to sell ticket as it’s very popular, so no worries (as it happens, another friend has accepted a late invite).

The mum of original invitee asked me to transfer the cost of the ticket to her, so she can treat her DD for missing out.

Eh??

I mean that’s batshit, right?

“I have to say I find your message really inappropriate. I covered the tickets myself, as a treat for my child and so she could bring a friend. Your daughter can’t make it — that’s unfortunate, but it’s certainly not something I need to ‘make amends’ for.“

Yeah something like this. Perhaps the dictionary definition of 'make amends' as I'm genuinely not sure she understands that it's something someone does when they are at fault, not just a synonym for cheering someone up.

Chocja · 06/11/2025 21:48

I am surprised she hasn’t asked you for the money for food, drink and souvenirs for her DD too 😂

5678XXX · 06/11/2025 21:48

So every child who can't make a birthday party now has to have money sent to them to "make amends"?

😂

Jenpen31 · 06/11/2025 21:48

I thought I'd had some bad experiences with Mothers of my children's friends, but this certainly tops them all.
You were doing something kind, you dont owe her a penny. In future I'd just stick to doing things with your daughter, the two of you. People just arent worth it.

GrooveArmada · 06/11/2025 21:50

I thank that woman and this thread for the chicken fucker.

Anyahyacinth · 06/11/2025 21:52

CF sounds bizarre. Is it possible her daughter told her she paid for the ticket? Has somehow misled her Mum and she thinks you are selling the ticket to reimburse her?

FootyMcFooty · 06/11/2025 21:52

Surely at this point, the mum has seen this thread and is carrying it on just for amusement!

BorneBackCeaselesslyIntoThePas · 06/11/2025 21:52

My friends all drive porsches have tickets , I must make amends

ArchieStar · 06/11/2025 21:53

“Sorry I think there’s been some massive confusion here. We never explicitly bought DD a ticket… we bought 3 for myself, my DD and whichever random friend she chose. If we did book with yours specifically in mind then I would organise a little something for the girls another time. As such, since you didn’t send any payment at all, I will not be sending you any money.”

Exactly this, perfect.

Stop telling the OP to apologise!
So many advising a message starting "sorry".
You're not sorry!

Snazzysausage · 06/11/2025 19:55

I think I'd just message

For heavens sake Mary,I've got no idea what this is really about.
We had a spare ticket.
Annie asked Jenny if she'd like to accompany us and use our spare ticket.
Jenny had to decline so Annie asked another friend to accompany us instead.
In what world do I need to compensate you for Jenny declining the invite?!

Perfect 👌

AimInCup · 06/11/2025 21:57

This is EXACTLY what I get on MN for, what a time to be alive! Please do us update us if not already!! I've not read replies yet to the evening!

Switcher · 06/11/2025 21:59

I feel like a shit mum sometimes, and then I read this kind of parent behaviour and I'm like yeah nah I think I'm ok.

OriginalUsername2 · 06/11/2025 22:00

A classic CF will always pull out the “my child is upset” line. But this is creative stuff, a new twisted level of Cheeky Fuckery I can’t even comprehend!

LlamaNoDrama · 06/11/2025 22:01

This must be the Cheekiest CF ever on mumsnet

Wishing14 · 06/11/2025 22:01

That reminds me, I couldn’t attend an interview a few months ago… I’m going to request that they back pay me the salary I should have received by now.

notatinydancer · 06/11/2025 22:02

This thread is as entertaining as Celebrity Traitors 😂
Unbelievable, I hope she’s on MN.

Whatwerewetalkingabout · 06/11/2025 22:02

Holy fucking shit this is pure mental gymnastics where the gymnast has smashed both their own legs but is determined to keep cartwheeling...

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 06/11/2025 22:03

We invited Jenny, Jenny can’t make it. That is a shame and I’m sorry if she’s upset but it’s not my responsibility to make amends because she can’t come.

I’d mean ‘sorry I don’t understand’

Sunshineismyfavourite · 06/11/2025 22:04

Wow this is another level of CF even for MN. In fact, I have been more invested in this thread tonight than the Traitors result.

TitsInAbsentia · 06/11/2025 22:04

Started at 11:22 today and already on page 18 - the investment in this is real😂

So if she carries on just message "take me to small claims court chicken fucker"

HAPPILYMARRIEDSINCE2012 · 06/11/2025 22:04

OP completely agree with you, she is a CF but I have a feeling that she saw ut as I gift to her daughter or something...

TeenLifeMum · 06/11/2025 22:05

This is amazing. I’d reply “you want me to randomly gift your dd £50? The gift was to my dd to take a friend, which is what happened. You turned down the gift so I don’t understand why you would think I owe an alternative to your dd.”

or, after a glass of wine “get fucked you entitled womble”
