I bought 3 tickets to a show this weekend, for me & DD + a friend of her choice. I paid for them all (£50+ each) but told the mum of invited friend that I didn’t want any contribution. All good.

Now the friend unfortunately can’t make it (legit reason). I mentioned that I’d probably be able to sell ticket as it’s very popular, so no worries (as it happens, another friend has accepted a late invite).

The mum of original invitee asked me to transfer the cost of the ticket to her, so she can treat her DD for missing out.

Eh??

I mean that’s batshit, right?

surely they’ve gone back on the ‘promise’ her daughter would attend…

Response: “well that’s a shame that you’ve gone back on a promise”.

Bloody hell. I genuinely don’t know where her mind is now.

This is bizarre in the extreme. Can you perhaps give her a call?? I genuinely don’t understand why she is not understanding this.

Whereismyfleeceblanket · 06/11/2025 19:28

Is she pissed?

OhBuggerandArse · 06/11/2025 19:28

Oh please, let her come on here and ask AIBU!!

WhamBamThankU · 06/11/2025 19:28

This Chicken Fucker is truly the gift that keeps on giving!

Americano75 · 06/11/2025 19:28

Oh, I wouldn't be letting that go I'm afraid. That's unbelievable.

Goditsmemargaret · 06/11/2025 19:28

I'm stunned.

In fact I'd write that in response to her and nothing else. What a horrible woman.

What the ACTUAL fuck is this woman on?!

ClockworkGiraffe · 06/11/2025 19:28

What promise? Is she nuts ffs??

RancidRuby · 06/11/2025 19:29

Blimey, she's doubled down. What was your initial message to her, when you invited the DD? I'm being generous in thinking maybe she has misunderstood the situation from the start.

Cantsleepdontsleep · 06/11/2025 19:27

That would be what a sane person would think.

Umbrellasinthesunshine · 06/11/2025 19:29

“I didn’t think we were charging each other for “broken promises” - but since we are, you can pay me £50 for DD not coming.”

Bloody hell!

I'd message back:

Sorry, I'm really confused now. When did I promise that in the event of your DD not being able to come, I would pay you the price of the ticket? I'd love to know because we invited your DD to join us if she was free, that's all. The ticket and its value wasn't hers to keep regardless.

That's nuts.

How do people go through this life being so entitled!

Weird! I hope her daughter isn't too embarrassed!

janehopper · 06/11/2025 19:30

Oh this infuriating! 'What promise? I never promised to pay her £50 for not turning up to an event I've invited her to, I've spent £50 on a ticket she's not using! This is absolutely ridiculous and to be honest I'm disappointed you're trying to extort another £50 from me after I've already spent £50 on a ticket for your daughter and I've had to find someone else to take it. You can't possibly think this is a reasonable way to interact with people.'

mathsapp · 06/11/2025 19:31

Crazy. Is there a language or cultural barrier here? Did she think that the ticket was a gift to her DD (has she had a recent birthday or something?). I'm clutching at straws because it's so bizarre.

janehopper · 06/11/2025 19:31

And block

Or this 🤣

TheThingsYouDoForLurve · 06/11/2025 19:31

‘Apologies CF, what promise? I offered a ticket to your daughter (free - happily). She has said she can no longer attend. I’ve given the ticket to another. Can you enlighten me on promises backed down on and how I owe you money for a gift I gave to you? I’d be much obliged you batshit loony’.

maybe not the last sentence but, you know…

🌎 🚀 🤪

OriginalUsername2 · 06/11/2025 19:32

You can’t reason with stupid.

CareerChange24 · 06/11/2025 19:32

It’s time to put her in her place. Don’t be too savage but she’s testing you to see how far she can go. I’m not one to be on here calling people unhinged, but she clearly is.

Sandseaandsky · 06/11/2025 19:33

I keep refreshing the page for an update and I don't think my eyes have ever gone as wide in my life from the shock at her responses!

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 06/11/2025 19:33

Wow,she’s doubling down 😂 absolutely batshit!
