I bought 3 tickets to a show this weekend, for me & DD + a friend of her choice. I paid for them all (£50+ each) but told the mum of invited friend that I didn’t want any contribution. All good.

Now the friend unfortunately can’t make it (legit reason). I mentioned that I’d probably be able to sell ticket as it’s very popular, so no worries (as it happens, another friend has accepted a late invite).

The mum of original invitee asked me to transfer the cost of the ticket to her, so she can treat her DD for missing out.

Eh??

I mean that’s batshit, right?

Wowsers. She really is a piece of work!

what are you going to reply?

PullTheBricksDown · 06/11/2025 17:25

JeffTheSquirrel · 06/11/2025 17:21

She just replied, “the money for the ticket you gave to X.”

Erm. Quite curt I thought.

'I paid for them to go as a treat. If child can't go that's a shame but doesn't mean I owe you the money! Of course as her mum you can get her something to cheer her up if you want.'

Dontbeme · 06/11/2025 17:25

It's times like this we need a Mumsnet branded popcorn (and gin)

poetryandwine · 06/11/2025 17:26

I would go with

Sorry? I am not in the habit of compensating people who are unable to accept gifts. We hope DD can make it another time.

purpleme12 · 06/11/2025 17:26

Wow I've read all OP's posts

This mum is quite shocking

JackieGoodman · 06/11/2025 17:26

Wow! the cheek.
I was just about to type what @TeenToTwenties said

Littlemissbubbblles · 06/11/2025 17:26

She honestly should be paying you for the last minute cancellation and wasted ticket!!

She just replied, “the money for the ticket you gave to X.”

Her reasoning is bizarre!

I suppose from this, she thinks you gave the actual ticket to X, therefore it is now X's (or the money is).

You'll have to work out how to nicely say the ticket is yours not X's, and that you didn't give her the ticket, she was invited to the event as you had a ticket.

Good luck!

ChoccieCornflake · 06/11/2025 17:27

Look mate, we offered to your daughter the opportunity to attend an event. she cant make it, so we offered the opportunity to someone else. Where are you seeing your daughter owed any money, you CF?!

Emptyandsad · 06/11/2025 17:27

No way!

My mind is exploding in slow motion

QueenClinomania · 06/11/2025 17:27

Time to be blunt back.
I bought it with my money. I dont need to pay you for it. I wasnt giving your child a ticket, I was taking her to keep my child company with a ticket I bought.

SilverStripedSunset · 06/11/2025 17:27

“I didn’t give her a ticket, I invited her to make use of one of my tickets.”

Dontbeme · 06/11/2025 17:28

Reply "it's fine, X can keep the ticket"

Do this knowing you have the actual ticket, that will give her something to ponder.

TheatricalLife · 06/11/2025 17:28

She's thick as two short planks. I don't think she's even a self aware CF, she genuinely can't get her head around it. She's gone 2+2 and got 5.
You'll have to spell it out for her simply OP.

I bought two tickets for DD. DD asked friend to go. Friend can't go. DD has asked another friend. The tickets x 2 were a gift to DD.

At this point I'd just send her a link to this thread. She's a cheeky fucker with a cherry on top.

HardyWeinbergEquation · 06/11/2025 17:29

Wow.

Brutal.

outdooryone · 06/11/2025 17:30

Dammit, I have to drive home while concocting suitable replies...

"Hey CF, since the gift offered was rejected, it would be selfish to think we should compensate you?"

Now be a good sport and FRO...

While I don't disagree with you, I do have to wonder why do we (some of us women) default to ...work out how to nicely say... Why?? Why do we have to say something nicely when someone is very obviously NOT saying anything nicely, and in fact is being a cheeky fucker of the highest order.

Aintnosunshinenowitsgone · 06/11/2025 17:31

KnightandDay · 06/11/2025 17:13

But DIC wasn't "given the gift of a ticket" - she was invited to attend something with Squirrel Jnr.

I said 'in her head', not in reality!

No5ChalksRoad · 06/11/2025 17:31

What??

This is CF to new levels.

So if you had invited her daughter to dinner, and daughter declined, would you have to send over a hamper with a hot meal in it? Or the cost of the ingredients?

BMW6 · 06/11/2025 17:31

Sorry but I'd HAVE to reply "Have you been taking Cheeky Fucker tablets? Have a word with yourself.....!"

I would be replying “but you didn’t pay for it…??” and let her try to reason why she’s entitled to it.
