The immigration related clown show continues

So now an Algerian national who was released by mistake last week is at large. As if the previous debacle with the Epping forest sex offender wasn’t bad enough.

The fact that we are hearing about this again and again tells us that,
This happens all the time
Foreign national offenders are over represented in crime statistics
Immigration is out of control
People working in Home office, prison service and and every other government department are incompetent and beyond useless.

And these people have the audacity to tell us that they want more of the public’s money in taxes.

At this point, this government (and the previous one) is laughing at us. They are taking the piss out of us. This country is broken and Labour and Tories need to be voted so far into oblivion and out of power that they never get anywhere power, ever again.

What is your AIBU?

QuaintSwan · 05/11/2025 17:20

There's no way to answer this - what's the question?

How come 14 years of austerity and cuts have only led to a handful of cock ups like this ?

Catchee · 05/11/2025 17:23

So bored of this outrage. This happens all the time in all systems. Mistakes get made. All you are seeing is the right wing press jumping on it over and over. I'm just so bored of hearing about immigration all day and every day on here. So many people swallowed the Kool aid or bots. No small boats for a week. Illegal immigration is down. Loads of good news (buried) regarding industry and education but no, you do you, Bang on about the immigrants and illegals.

WalkDontWalk · 05/11/2025 17:24

One of your ‘this shows that..’ list is possibly indicated.

The others don’t follow at all.

IdaGlossop · 05/11/2025 17:32

My question: in terms of impact on the victim, what is the difference between a crime committed by a) a person born in the UK b) a person who has been granted British citizenship as an immigrant coming into the country c) a person who comes to the UK as an asylum seeker using an irregular route d) a person who comes to the UK as an asylum seeker using a regular route e) an economic migrant who comes to the UK using an irregular route?
My answer: absolutely nothing.

Neglect of the prison estate for 14 years. Insufficient prison places. High staff turnover. Low pay. Demotivated staff. Of course there's chaos. It's a wonder it's not worse.

EasternStandard · 05/11/2025 17:36

Yeh it’s bad and worse that Lammy deflected and gaslighted in HoC.

CorneliaCupp · 05/11/2025 17:40

Didn't they accidentally release a British national on the same day? So more about the underfunding of the prison system than immigration?

You weren't supposed to notice that.

dottiehens · 05/11/2025 17:47

This is exactly what I thought today when reading the BBC investigation of criminal asylum seekers network of the mini markets. Beggars belief the governments are so incompetent and letting this country to be broken. It really is disheartening and in all conscience I can’t carry on paying extortionate taxes to live here.

HRTQueen · 05/11/2025 17:48

What this highlights is how much probation prisons and probation are under

They are (along with other public services) at breaking point, lack of funding, poor management and staff having to deal with added pressure constanlty

It’s bad either way but one thing that will be different is someone who was previously in gov accommodation without money will have nowhere to go. It might not be the case for this person idk but was last time.

Of course it is, but that doesn't suit some people's narrative.

I honestly don't think many victims would agree with you. If they were attacked or raped by someone that was in the country illegally, or had committed similar crimes in their home country, I think the insult to injury ratio would be pretty high.

Pharazon · 05/11/2025 17:59

The prison service is grossly understaffed and there are extremely high levels of absence (Wandsworth prison has on average a third of staff absent on any given day). Corruption is absolutely rife with many prison officers supplementing their salaries by selling phones and drugs to inmates.

It's basically a job that no-one wants to do, so a lot of the people who do end up doing it are either incompetent, corrupt, or both.

The entire service needs to be rebuilt from scratch, but spending money on prisons is not exactly a vote winner so it will never happen.

Applepe · 05/11/2025 17:59

Is he a foreign national due for deportation, or a prisoner that just happens to be foreign? Because he could have leave to remain in this country. The second one got released because the court told the prison that he’d been given a suspended sentence. By the time the court had realised the mistake, it was too late. It happens frequently in local prisons, most of the time it doesn’t make the news.

shouldIstayorshouldIgo888 · 05/11/2025 18:06

Your post makes no sense. You've just jumped to a load of conclusions and you think you're giving us hard facts. I've rarely seen such ridiculousness. Sort yourself out.

MidlandsWoman · 05/11/2025 18:08

OP - your claims are overblown nonsense and do not follow at all from the fact that someone was accidentally released from prison. Perhaps you could think of taking a basic course in logical reasoning.

You might also want to consider how the prison service is currently being supported by a very large number of foreign workers. If immigration rules are tightened, they will have to leave and the prison service will have even fewer staff than it already does.

I completely agree with you, but the crime is actually the same.

So it's happened twice this is clearly an example that it 'happens all the time' is it? Really?

The Tories absolutely fucked the justice system, they destroyed it and it will take longer than a year to fix it.

He is an Afghan national who overstayed his visa in 2019 and has been here illegally ever since.

Nothing about Labour who are in power? The number they can rely on with this falls each week.

14 years worth of neglect and cuts will take a hell of a long time to undo

SwirlyShirly · 05/11/2025 18:37

The entire service is grossly underfunded and understaffed, and still expected to make savings.

For a long, long time it has been (at least partially) running on good will of employees on the promise that ‘this change will make things better’.

Continual operational and policy change is exhausting and it’s getting harder and harder to keep on top of it.
