Teen sexy halloween costume for girls only

AIBU to think the whole sexy halloween costume for girls only is getting worse each year.

I am not a prude honestly and there are bigger problems in the world I know but….

So many youngish (year 10-12) teens posting on social media dressed in push up basques, micro minis, micro shorts bare legs and pouting at the camera and worse. Then the boys all dressed in jeans t-shirts and normal costumes not a pout in sight.

Don’t get me wrong women should wear what they want but it seems social media is dictating that girls should be more and more provocative and boys can just be boys.

AIBU to think in 2025 this is pretty sad.

I don't many teenagers that dress up for Halloween.
It's not really a thing 🤔

Gottocopebymyself · 04/11/2025 10:18

I've never seen this myself.
And yes it is sad if this is what happens.

But. You are talking about children and presumably their parents are ok with seeing their children sexualised. They must be complicit in their children dressing up in this way. So perhaps you should be directing your concerns to parenting that is badly letting down their dds.

I agree. The thing is that they are putting these images of themselves all over tiktok, snapchat and insta.

It’s such a shame that some girls are believing that it’s normal that they should dress in this way and can’t see that the boys are not.

Are you kidding? Halloween is massive! Becoming the biggest ‘celebration’ of the year.

Well yes but if they are putting these images out on these social media platforms that is down to parenting isn't?

Either their parents are happy for them to do this or they are giving them free reign to social media with no monitoring of it. Both approaches are not in the child's interest.

Agreed.

But how many parents of 14 -17 year olds are actually checking their social media?
Hardly any I think.

Not for teenagers.
At least the ones I know.
They are very into cosplay at events like comic con (amazing costumes both the boys and girls) but they don't dress up for Halloween.

Was up in London the other week when Comicon (or similar!) was on at the Excel. The costumes were BRILLIANT!

But all of my teen’s friends are massively into Halloween and had a huge Halloween party last weekend. The event of the year.

Ok...so some teens probably do Halloween parties. It's not a thing in my 17 year old daughters world.

My teens all went to Halloween parties (not trick or treating) in fancy dress and all dressed up - teen DD was a vampire which only consisted of wearing all black - trousers and top - and a cape, fake teeth (which didn't last long) and the main feature was stage makeup done well by a friend. Boys were characters from films.

The provocative costumes sound very American and didn't used to be a feature - lucky still don't seem to be around here (maybe because of a tendency for the parties to take place in drafty barns - farming area 🫣😆)

Needmorelego · 04/11/2025 11:07

Ok I take it back that teens don't do Halloween.
Seems I was wrong 😂🎃🧛🧟

larpsadtime · 04/11/2025 11:09

I suppose if you haven’t seen it then there’s nothing to notice but honestly I saw so many girls from many different areas of the country and different schools. All dressed up so inappropriately and sadly nearly all in the exactly the same way. There was a code for sure. Boys not dressed at all in the same way.

Needmorelego · 04/11/2025 11:12

@larpsadtime well most teenage girls are forced daily to dress in an outfit that's become a "naughty sexy girl" cliche.
(aka school uniform with their horrible short kilts and shirts that are too tight 🤢)

This is very true - a few years ago the older sister of one of my son's friends (DD also knew the sister from school but they were a year apart) was "an influencer" at the age of 14 and posted lots of pictures just of herself posing in identifying local locations with captions that were the type of introspective young gothic teen stuff which would usually have been confined to a diary / poems or spoken aloud to friends twenty or thirty years ago. Her clothes in the photos wasn't what she wore every day - I think she was going for an editorial look maybe! She did wear a corset in one.

The problem was that her profile was completely open and it would have been easy to find her because the locations in the photos were identifiable.

DD showed me and that most of her fairly large number of followers seemed to be adult men. It was quite dangerous potentially.

DD and her friends went to an approachable female teacher about it (all atvthe same school) and it was handled through school - her profile made private at least. The school went in quite intensely on daya protection talks for the teens and inviting parents (all parents) to evening talks on teens and social media, for a bit.

It shouldn't be school's job, but some parents are quite naive - or just disengaged.

The main thing is profiles should be private and only friends they actually know accepted - minors shouldn't be trying to build massive followings!

This is depressingly true. None of the arguments for school uniform actually hold water (no, they are not a social leveller, and teens in uniform school pay more attention to how uniform is worn, condition of uniform, any minute accessories offering a chance to express tribe/ wealth than teens in non uniform schools do to one another's jeans and t-shirts... I taught in both uniform and non uniform schools).

MaplePumpkin · 04/11/2025 11:28

I don’t think it’s anything new that boys don’t dress up sexily for Halloween!

humblebea · 04/11/2025 11:32

It’s not just teens. Young girl dressing as cheerleaders covered in blood or brides covered in blood. They are too young to understand what the costume is suggesting and the violence against women it is portraying. They just want to be a cheerleader or bride or nurse with a Halloween theme. I hate seeing that type of costume.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 04/11/2025 11:36

I took the 7yr old out for Halloween and couldn't believe my eyes at the skimpy/sexy outfits young teens were wearing. What are the parents thinking😮

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/11/2025 11:37

Also some men just see 'sexy' even when there is no sexy present,,,

I wore an outfit to work for Halloween. I was asked by two separate men, if I was meant to be 'a sexy witch'. Apart from about half an inch more cleavage being visible than in my usual work uniform, I was covered neck to ankle. The men just wanted to be able to think of it as a 'sexy witch' outfit.

Who does the daily "forcing"?

Big difference between a 16 to 17-year-old wearing a 'sexy' costume and what you said in your original post, in which you mentioned girls aged 10-12.

I don't think it would be especially reasonable to start telling late-teens - who are over the age of consent and perfectly entitled to do whatever they want with their own bodies - that they're being 'sexualised' if they wear a mini skirt or a corset top on Halloween.

CoralPombear · 04/11/2025 11:46

Agree. Drove past so many teeny tiny pairs of shorts out walking in the pouring rain this year. It’s the first time I’ve felt my age when I found myself pointing this out as I used to love a skimpy costume myself.
