Teen sexy halloween costume for girls only

AIBU to think the whole sexy halloween costume for girls only is getting worse each year.

I am not a prude honestly and there are bigger problems in the world I know but….

So many youngish (year 10-12) teens posting on social media dressed in push up basques, micro minis, micro shorts bare legs and pouting at the camera and worse. Then the boys all dressed in jeans t-shirts and normal costumes not a pout in sight.

Don’t get me wrong women should wear what they want but it seems social media is dictating that girls should be more and more provocative and boys can just be boys.

AIBU to think in 2025 this is pretty sad.

9 isn't a teenager nor is 12. Its little kids she's talking about.

The OP ?
No she was talking about school years 10-12 not ages.
Assuming she lives in England or Wales then -
Year 10 is 14/15
Year 11 is 15/16
Year 12 is 16/17.
She wasn't talking about primary age children.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 05/11/2025 09:20

I am mid 40's. I recall the teenagers from the 90's dressing in very skimpy outfits.
I saw a few Pamela Anderson's wearing a red swimsuit in the night clubs.
One girl painted her breast blue as a blue tit.

Gottocopebymyself · 05/11/2025 09:26

Swiftie1878 · 05/11/2025 08:48

That generation literally invented the mini skirt.

Well yes. And hot pants.

But it wasn't a world where pornography was a part of everyday life and women singers weren't routinely expected to strip down to their knickers and underwear, and in some instances resort to what is verging on pornographic stage shows and promotional material, in order for any one to be interested in their musical talent.

The norm now seems to be girls and women are expected to dress in overtly sexual ways whilst boys and men can continue to wear comfortable clothing and actually look attractive without walking round in their y fronts or posing pouches.

Minnie798 · 05/11/2025 09:26

I don't think this is anything new. Teen girls 14-17 have always experimented with clothes ( revealing outfits),makeup and hair, to the disapproval of their parents and other middle aged adults. Social media means that more people see what the teens are doing, but they have always done it.

MinervaMouseHunter · 05/11/2025 09:29

In girl world, Halloween is that one time of year a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girl can say anything about it.

It's really not a 2025 thing!

Crimblecrumble1990 · 05/11/2025 09:30

I don’t think social media needs to be blamed - I remember doing this with friends as a young ish teen around 2005 so before Facebook etc was super popular. Horrified and cringe looking back.

Boys have too despite what some on this thread think.
I mean look at "teddy boys" - they wore really tight trousers, fancy shoes and a quiff in the hair that would have taken half a tub of Brylcreem (much to their mother's despair).
Look at Regency style fashions.
Trousers designed to essentially "flatter" their penis area 😁

Well it’s not just boys that do their hair is it? So boys aren’t doing other things

Heterosexual boys are also doing the things that they think will attract the opposite sex. If they thought they had to show off their bodies they would do that (and some do). The fact that they do so less than girls is because of a combination of body insecurity (which also applies to girls - plenty of teenage girls dress in baggy, non-skimpy outfits), social messaging that girls don't respond visually in the same way, and - by and large - empirical evidence that showing off their bodies wouldn't get them the results they want.

When you were looking for a boyfriend, would you have been attracted to a man wearing a skimpy outfit? Some women would have, but a far lower proportion than the men who'd notice a woman in a skimpy outfit.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 05/11/2025 09:38

It’s not a new thing, haven’t you seen mean girls? Came out 20 years ago

TealScroller · 05/11/2025 11:01

My 16yr old step daughter went to a halloween party dressed as a cavewoman, think Raquel Welch - fake fur bra and mini skirt...I'm no prude but I told my DP that there's NO WAY our daughter would be going out wearing that outfit when she's 16! 18+ sure but 16?!

Your arguments make no sense. All these teenagers going out to Halloween parties want to be attractive to the opposite sex (or same sex if they are gay). Girls do this by showing off their blissfully youthful great legs, taut stomachs and if they’re lucky, cleavage.

Boys do it by wearing expensive scents, expensive clothes and perfecting their hair.

Boys would not be attractive to girls (or anyone!) if they went to the party in a pair of hot pants and a crop top.

This is not a new observation. It has been this way forever.

It also has nothing to do with social media or girls today being slutty.

Take a look at the micro mini skirts and tight tops of the 1960’s that our mums used to wear.

How old do you reckon Twiggy is here ? and how old do you think she looks ? I'd say late teens.

Actually that is such an unhealthy look but that’s not the skirt length I saw over halloween. Maybe half that length and arse cheeks totally uncovered and boobs and bras totally on show.

Some of dds friends mums are from other cultures and they think very differently to English mums. The Spanish / Brazilian / US mums view is if you’ve got it flaunt it! This thread is very Anglo Saxon!

And those cultures regarding women’s place in society are not ones I’d want to follow.

Brazil recorded one rape crime every six minutes in 2023. Cases of rape and statutory rape totaled 83,988, up 6.5 percent from 2022.

What I was meaning (I think) was it's all about attracting a mate essentially.
Females feel they have to dress in skimpy clothes, show off their boobs, wear make up etc.
Males feel they need to look nice (the fancy hair), smell nice , have desirable clothes and shoes.
Is it society that's made it that way?
Probably.

I think you have totally agreed with my OP.

It is the stark contrast in the way in which women present themselves to attract a mate which is so telling about society and women’s place. I thought we’d moved on but from what I saw it’s got worse.

Absolutely Neuro! Proud owners of 17 and 19 year old dds who went all out for Halloween. What would you pearl clutchers have actually done as parents?! Shouted at them and damaged your relationship? Locked them in their rooms on the biggest party night of the year? I’m all ears!

Hold on - do you think women should cover up to avoid being raped?

My DD asked for a corset for trick or treating, she is year 9. I said no way. A few of her friends were wearing bunny girl outfits and corsets.

Oh yes, I saw a few bunny girls in bras, micro shorts and bunny ears.

Hugh Hefner’s bunny girls really shouldn’t be an inspiration for so many young women should it?

It is society really.
One of my arguments up thread though was about school uniforms.
From the age of 4 we tell girls to wear outfits that aren't actually practical for their day. It's all about looking "smart" not dressing for comfort and practicality.

TheaBrandt1 · 05/11/2025 11:41

The only time my teen suffered grim sexual harassment on a bus she was wearing her school tracksuit and no make up 🙄😳

Are you kidding? Halloween is massive! Becoming the biggest ‘celebration’ of the year.

Not where we are. Didn’t see anyone dressed up other than a few half hearted retail staff.

No one is saying the costume will attract sexual harassment, we are saying that girls and only girls ‘wanting' to wear this kind of thing is indicative of society’s expectations on women.
Boys do not wear the same overly sexualised fancy dress.
