Teen sexy halloween costume for girls only

AIBU to think the whole sexy halloween costume for girls only is getting worse each year.

I am not a prude honestly and there are bigger problems in the world I know but….

So many youngish (year 10-12) teens posting on social media dressed in push up basques, micro minis, micro shorts bare legs and pouting at the camera and worse. Then the boys all dressed in jeans t-shirts and normal costumes not a pout in sight.

Don’t get me wrong women should wear what they want but it seems social media is dictating that girls should be more and more provocative and boys can just be boys.

AIBU to think in 2025 this is pretty sad.

It’s not just teens. Young girl dressing as cheerleaders covered in blood or brides covered in blood. They are too young to understand what the costume is suggesting and the violence against women it is portraying. They just want to be a cheerleader or bride or nurse with a Halloween theme. I hate seeing that type of costume.

This is definitely true - why wear the cheerleader or bride outfit to make the costume a representation of violence against women and girls? Imagine if they dressed up as a cat or dog covered in blood - that would be considered in very bad taste by most people...

Big difference between a 16 to 17-year-old wearing a 'sexy' costume and what you said in your original post, in which you mentioned girls aged 10-12.

I don't think it would be especially reasonable to start telling late-teens - who are over the age of consent and perfectly entitled to do whatever they want with their own bodies - that they're being 'sexualised' if they wear a mini skirt or a corset top on Halloween.

No it was year 10-12, so slightly older than age 10.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 04/11/2025 11:47

We went to a Halloween party a few years ago where one young woman was dressed as sexy Edward Scissorhands 😕

Two Year 7 girls came trick or treating to ours this year dressed as sexy pirates. It's concerning, they shouldn't feel like they need to do that.

Not for teenagers.
At least the ones I know.
They are very into cosplay at events like comic con (amazing costumes both the boys and girls) but they don't dress up for Halloween.

Teen Halloween parties have been a Big Thing around here. My friend & her DH did an amazing job of decorating their house for their teen DD(15) & 50 friends.

they all had to be collected by parents at 11.30. A great night was had by all, no damage etc.

many of the girls were in 'sexy' outfits, as were we at that age. (40 years ago!!)

there's not really an equivalent for boys/men is there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ablondiebutagoody · 04/11/2025 11:56

When I was young enough to pull it off, I used to love a bit of sexy fancy dress

YEAR 10-12 not age. I had to read it twice too.

@larpsadtime well most teenage girls are forced daily to dress in an outfit that's become a "naughty sexy girl" cliche.
(aka school uniform with their horrible short kilts and shirts that are too tight 🤢)

isn’t it part of the same issue

Not as young around here but I’d say 13/14+ girls wear the “sexy” Halloween outfits. But I also think it’s a maturity thing, rather than age. I’ve two DDs, one 17 and she dressed as a cowgirl for a party with a bit of blood. And a “young” 13 yo DD who dressed as a tellytubby with a gunshot wound to the head.

I don’t think it’s anything new that boys don’t dress up sexily for Halloween!

Exactly my point

We wore a black bin bag and were lucky to get a a bit of bonfire toffee !!!!

Gofaster2023 · 04/11/2025 12:03

I was out in the town on Friday and I saw more arse cheeks than I cared too! All the teens were dressed up! I was borderline embarrassed for being so old and in jeans and a tshirt!

Yes. That was my point. Teenage girls are sexualized daily because the current popular style of school uniform that most schools use is the one that has become practically fetishist and the "sexy schoolgirl" cliché.
I hate it.

CoralPombear · 04/11/2025 11:46

Agree. Drove past so many teeny tiny pairs of shorts out walking in the pouring rain this year. It’s the first time I’ve felt my age when I found myself pointing this out as I used to love a skimpy costume myself.

The shorts I saw were micro mini. So cheeks totally on show and i also saw a couple who had dollar bills stuffed in their bra/corset aka ‘gold digger’ chic.

Oh, right - I misread. In that case I don't really see the issue.

It's very normal for mid-late teens to become conscious of their sexuality and to start exploring that a bit in the way they dress. I wouldn't worry about this. I think it's a bit odd to be fretting about girls of 16-17 having 'bare legs' and wearing mini-skirts tbh.

DiscoBob · 04/11/2025 12:15

15-16 year old girls wearing tiny skirts and skimpy tops isn't a new thing, nor is it exclusive to Halloween. I don't see why you can't just not look at them if it bothers you. If they're not your kids.

It wasn’t mini skirts, I said micro mini and micro shorts.

Micro mini shows everything, even the crease under the hip bones where pants would start and arse cheeks totally on show.

My concern was it was almost a uniform (as in not really free choice unless they all like exactly the same look) and the tongues stuck out for every pose.

I think your point is flawed.

It is normal and part of human nature to want to be attractive to the opposite sex. It drives reproduction.

Girls on Halloween spend ages choosing their outfits, wanting to look as good as possible and obviously sexy. It is the one time of the year they get to dress up like that.

But don’t think for one second that teenage boys aren’t putting in as much thought into how they look for the Halloween party. They will spend ages on their hair and choosing their outfits so they look “hot” for the girls. You may see them just dressed in jeans, T-shirt and hoodie, but those items have been specifically selected.

I think it’s all quite harmless.

gannett · 04/11/2025 12:35

larpsadtime · 04/11/2025 12:19

How come boys don’t explore this though?

Because the received wisdom is that women aren't as visual as men and are looking for providers and protectors rather than simply good-looking men. So boys and men trying to look sexually attractive will often try to look cool or rich or high-status (whatever those things are in their minds) rather than hot.

Women being judged on their looks and men being judged on the much vaguer "being a real man" is reinforced by our society every day - and it's reinforced by both women to other women and men to other men too. It's reinforced by around 90% of this very site, I would say.

I share your dislike of this state of affairs. But do you think a young man wearing a skimpy costume would get the same reaction from the opposite sex as a young woman?

It's not actually an iron rule without exception and things are changing. I was at a few music festivals in the summer and noticed a lot of the younger women were in 90s-style combat trousers and oversized shirts while a lot of the younger men had obviously been in the gym and were in tank tops or shirtless. Pretty sure I remember the sportier boys at my school being keen to show off their muscles too.

They still like to show off their muscles in my experience.

I was up till late the night before Halloween as my teen DS absolutely had to have this specific t-shirt washed as it’s perfect to show off his biceps 🙄.

All my DD and her friends go on about is boy’s biceps.

ShouldITrust · 04/11/2025 13:41

Def the case round here. I was shocked at what my teen DD wanted to wear (for a Halloween party not trick or treating & all very similar at the party).

It's not just teenagers either

Many women wear short skirts, low tops, high heels. They kid themselves they're liberated and can wear what they want. But men have told us this look is desirable so really, it's primarily to satisfy the male gaze

You don't see men wearing skimpy clothing. They have more sense / less need to try to attract attention

I was hoping that younger women might feel less inclined to conform nowadays but, to me, it looks like it’s worse than ever. And boys are still dressing in a way that allows them freedom of movement and comfort.
