Teen sexy halloween costume for girls only

AIBU to think the whole sexy halloween costume for girls only is getting worse each year.

I am not a prude honestly and there are bigger problems in the world I know but….

So many youngish (year 10-12) teens posting on social media dressed in push up basques, micro minis, micro shorts bare legs and pouting at the camera and worse. Then the boys all dressed in jeans t-shirts and normal costumes not a pout in sight.

Don’t get me wrong women should wear what they want but it seems social media is dictating that girls should be more and more provocative and boys can just be boys.

AIBU to think in 2025 this is pretty sad.

The only time my teen suffered grim sexual harassment on a bus she was wearing her school tracksuit and no make up 🙄😳

Sorry to hear that.
Unfortunately pervs often don't care what someone is wearing 🙁

Heterosexual boys are also doing the things that they think will attract the opposite sex. If they thought they had to show off their bodies they would do that (and some do). The fact that they do so less than girls is because of a combination of body insecurity (which also applies to girls - plenty of teenage girls dress in baggy, non-skimpy outfits), social messaging that girls don't respond visually in the same way, and - by and large - empirical evidence that showing off their bodies wouldn't get them the results they want.

When you were looking for a boyfriend, would you have been attracted to a man wearing a skimpy outfit? Some women would have, but a far lower proportion than the men who'd notice a woman in a skimpy outfit.

That’s my point.

How come we’ve not move on and in fact we’ve moved backwards.

Women objectifying themselves in such a cringey uncomfortable way. I mean how comfortable is it to sit down with no covering on your arse, bare flesh on public transport? Only women are doing this.

Not where we are. Didn’t see anyone dressed up other than a few half hearted retail staff.

It does seem to vary.
My mother in laws town (Midlands) has areas that really go for it.
The part of London where my daughter goes to school doesn't.

You need to go to areas where there is a large (male) gay population.... it's not just women.

Your arguments make no sense. All these teenagers going out to Halloween parties want to be attractive to the opposite sex (or same sex if they are gay). Girls do this by showing off their blissfully youthful great legs, taut stomachs and if they’re lucky, cleavage.

Boys do it by wearing expensive scents, expensive clothes and perfecting their hair.

Boys would not be attractive to girls (or anyone!) if they went to the party in a pair of hot pants and a crop top.

This is not a new observation. It has been this way forever.

It also has nothing to do with social media or girls today being slutty.

Take a look at the micro mini skirts and tight tops of the 1960’s that our mums used to wear.

That’s the point.
Why do girls have to do this to attract a mate but boys can be comfortable and only think about hair and comfy nice clothes. Can you not see it’s not he same thing at all.

I know it’s how society is but I thought we might have moved on.

Moved on to where? To what?
Girls feel free to wear what they want, as do boys.
Girls like showing off their physical attributes, boys like to be buff and smell nice.

I’m not sure what you think everyone should be doing?

larpsadtime · 05/11/2025 12:01

TheaBrandt1 · 05/11/2025 11:37

Absolutely Neuro! Proud owners of 17 and 19 year old dds who went all out for Halloween. What would you pearl clutchers have actually done as parents?! Shouted at them and damaged your relationship? Locked them in their rooms on the biggest party night of the year? I’m all ears!

Pearl clutchers - bingo.

Hopefully parents bring their girls up to understand that sexual beings don’t need to dress like porn stars to express their sexuality. You know like boys don’t.

It’s takes a slightly deeper understanding to see it.

If you don’t that’s fine.

Hold on - do you think women should cover up to avoid being raped?

read the quote I was responding too.

Some of dds friends mums are from other cultures and they think very differently to English mums. The Spanish / Brazilian / US mums view is if you’ve got it flaunt it! This thread is very Anglo Saxon!

I don’t think we should hold those cultures on high regard.

You can laugh and you don’t have to agree.

But we live in a society where women are objectified as soon as they reach puberty.

Heckling in the street
Assaulted and touched
Drinks spiked
Ask for Angela posters displayed
1 in 4 women will be raped in their lifetime by a man
Women have to change their behaviour because of men
Put keys in their hand walking home
Get cabs when they’d walk if they felt safe etc.
Women earn less than men for doing the same job
Women have to work harder to be listened to in the work place
etc….

I believe that women thinking dressing like porn actors is a way to attract a man and show their sexuality is deeply misogynistic. The uniform I saw at halloween was so narrow it doesn’t smack of freedom of expression or sexuality to me.

As I said in my OP I am all for women showing their sexuality but there was very little individuality in what I saw and a stark contrast in how the boys presented.

So you are basically saying you believe heterosexual male teens/young men don't do anything to make themselves look sexually attractive?
Why do so many (straight) teenage boys spend hours at the gym?
Why do they spend hours on skin care and hair and nice clothes?
That's their "mating" methods.
Good body, good clothes, good hair.
From a subconscious biological point that could mean a potential good provider to a female.

That is not what I said.

You keep suggesting boys going to the gym and doing their hair is the boys equivalent to girls walking around as bunny girls with their arse cheeks showing.

You are missing the point that girls do all those things too, go to the gym, wear perfume, do their hair. Why do they also decide to expose themselves and dress like Hugh Hefner’s bunny girls. Boys don’t do this.

Some boys do. Incredibly tight clothes etc. Showing off biceps.
To be honest in my 17 year olds teenage world dressing as a bunny girl doesn't exist. It's not a thing at all in her teenage circles.
I really don't know why some girls/women choose to dress like this. It's as much a mystery to me as it to you.

Do 17 year olds even know what a playboy bunny girl is?

Briget Jones dressed as a bunny girl in 2001.

Briget Jones dressed as a bunny girl in 2001.

Discalimer - AI response to the bunny girl outfit in Bridget Jones. It’s what I have been saying all thread.

Bridget struggles with her self-esteem and often feels inadequate. The bunny costume exemplifies her desire to fit in and be desirable, but it also highlights her tendency to make questionable decisions in her pursuit of love and acceptance.

Finally, the bunny costume can be seen as a commentary on the pressures women face concerning beauty standards and societal expectations. Bridget's attire underscores the absurdity of such expectations, aligning with the film's overarching critique of modern dating and self-image.

Yes but she mistakenly thought it was a Tarts and Vicars party 😂

Why would you think society has moved on, of course it hasn't, its part of being young, becoming a woman, celebrating body changes.
My nephew dresses out there most weekends, he has more net type tops than I have underwear, he is gay so I suppose it is the male gaze too.
Respect their youth, their time to shine, its not like they don't grow out of it. I wore a lot of revealing outfits, my body hasn't changed too much, my sense of style has. 😅

No....she thought it was a Tarts and Vicars party 😂
The party was actually for her parents friendship group - all in their 50s/early 60s then.
So hardly the young trying to be desirable. The theme was changed last minute and no one told her.

Edited

Obviously she mistakenly thought it was fancy dress tarts and vicars but this was a pivotal moment in the film where the mistake about the type of party highlighted the absurdity of the expectations on women. She also logged her weight every day etc..
