Teen sexy halloween costume for girls only

AIBU to think the whole sexy halloween costume for girls only is getting worse each year.

I am not a prude honestly and there are bigger problems in the world I know but….

So many youngish (year 10-12) teens posting on social media dressed in push up basques, micro minis, micro shorts bare legs and pouting at the camera and worse. Then the boys all dressed in jeans t-shirts and normal costumes not a pout in sight.

Don’t get me wrong women should wear what they want but it seems social media is dictating that girls should be more and more provocative and boys can just be boys.

AIBU to think in 2025 this is pretty sad.

Def the case round here. I was shocked at what my teen DD wanted to wear (for a Halloween party not trick or treating & all very similar at the party).

It was the fact that so many girls looked exactly the same. Black push up corset, gap (bare stomach), micro mini, tongue out, selfie. Boys mostly in jeans and t-shirt ‘costume’ with hat or such like

Not a new thing. Hyper-sexualised culture/fashion has really calmed down from what it was 20 years ago. Mean Girls did a whole bit on Halloween costumes

That's American though - Halloween used to be ghosts, witches, zombies , vampires, cats, bats and pumpkins in the UK. Those inclined to go for a "sexy" Halloween costume used to at least try to dress up in as a cat or witch, not a cheerleader or in random Victorian underwear.

Agreed.

But how many parents of 14 -17 year olds are actually checking their social media?
Hardly any I think.

You have to be 16 to have facebook, so if parents are letting their children have it and they’re under age then blame poor parenting!

This is not new. This has been around since the mean girls film. We did this when I was 16. I am now 35!! The only saving grace was that no ever looked at the types of social media back then (my space etc ) other than your closest best friends!

Teenage girls wear outfits adults don’t approve of shocker! Hold the front page!

No teenager uses Facebook. It’s so outdated as far as kids are concerned they may as well do away with the age restriction!

Kids use TikTok and Snapchat. Need to be 13 for both.

They focus on other things like having fancy trainers, cool hair and smelling nice.

I don't many teenagers that dress up for Halloween.
It's not really a thing 🤔

Where have you been? It’s EVERYWHERE unfortunately x

I realised I was apparently wrong and corrected myself upthread.
However it's not much of a thing in my 17 year old daughters circle of friends.
Cosplay they do a lot of but Halloween parties that involve dressing up - they just don't.
I was genuine in not realising it's popular with (some) teens.
Edit: thinking about it my daughter goes to school in an area with a large Christian (African Christian) and Muslim population so Halloween isn't celebrated that much.

WhatCanISayYoureWelcome · 05/11/2025 01:17

Lots of teens were dressed up round here on Halloween and someone on a Facebook group was asking if it was ok for her 13 year old to wear a corset for Halloween and all the parents seemed to think it was fine, I was shocked! Wouldnt let my 13 year old wear one

MeatsAndCheesesAlwaysPleases · 05/11/2025 02:29

It’s all over TikTok. Girls in super skimpy costumes that vaguely resemble what they’re dressing up as, and boys in jeans and unbuttoned shirt (I think this is something to do with a character in the Wednesday series.)

I don’t think it’s anything new though, just more apparent now in the age of social media. I have seen tons of people (celebs and us mere mortals) dressing up just to do a photoshoot, but not actually go anywhere which I find strange.

MeatsAndCheesesAlwaysPleases · 05/11/2025 02:34

NotTheSameTwentyFourHours · 04/11/2025 11:27

This is depressingly true. None of the arguments for school uniform actually hold water (no, they are not a social leveller, and teens in uniform school pay more attention to how uniform is worn, condition of uniform, any minute accessories offering a chance to express tribe/ wealth than teens in non uniform schools do to one another's jeans and t-shirts... I taught in both uniform and non uniform schools).

Completely agree. Uniform should be abolished, I cannot think of one good reason why a child should need to wear a uniform - and the reasons that I have been given in this debate hold no water, as you say.

But that’s another thread in itself goes off to start said thread and cause chaos Grin

It’s not just teens. Young girl dressing as cheerleaders covered in blood or brides covered in blood. They are too young to understand what the costume is suggesting and the violence against women it is portraying. They just want to be a cheerleader or bride or nurse with a Halloween theme. I hate seeing that type of costume.

I’ve seen a fair few young kids dressed up in costumes from things they should have no idea about too. One child I know (she’s only 7) was dressed up as one of the Masked men from Squid Games. Full suit, mask and toy machine gun. I don’t know why, it just felt off to me. Saw another one as The Nun from The Conjuring films, he was terrifyingly accurate too!

Wethers121 · 05/11/2025 02:59

I’ve noticed is this year OP. What was more surprising to me that it was the parents posting the photos of their children dressed inappropriately (IMO).

firstofallimadelight · 05/11/2025 05:23

Yes I agree, my (adult) dd and her friend went to a party as sexy princess peach and sexy Daisy the lads dressed as Mario and Luigi. (Normal costumes)

im torn between feeling like women (although i appreciate op said teens which is slightly different) should wear what they want regardless of male gaze and feeling like they are just playing into men’s hands.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 05/11/2025 05:33

Gottocopebymyself · 04/11/2025 10:18

I've never seen this myself.
And yes it is sad if this is what happens.

But. You are talking about children and presumably their parents are ok with seeing their children sexualised. They must be complicit in their children dressing up in this way. So perhaps you should be directing your concerns to parenting that is badly letting down their dds.

She said yr 10 (14/15) to yr 12 (16/17) that isn't sexualising children. It is young girls experimenting with their nascent sexual attractivness. Perfectly normal and nothing new. Look at footage of a Beatles concert.

Strawberrryfields · 05/11/2025 06:03

I do cringe a bit with some of the skimpy outfits but think it’s just a phase for lots of older girls/ young women. I’ve definitely worn similar stuff as costumes or on nights out in my late teens/ twenties and thought nothing of it. I had an amazing figure and bags of confidence. Some of my female friends would go more scary or silly and others more sexy.

Wasn’t particularly interested that men weren’t in a skimpy equivalent as men’s clothing is often not very interesting to look at anyway. I have seen young men before in lifeguard or army type costumes which were quite revealing (not as commonly as young women) but only really guys who clearly spend a lot of time in the gym.

I think with teen girls it’s a balance between wanting them to feel confident and proud of their bodies and free to wear what they like (within reason), without feeling pressured to dress in a provocative way if they don’t actually want to.

Putthekettleon73 · 05/11/2025 06:12

Yup. Lots of 13-14 year old girls in corsets and tiny skirts round here.

Just to offer a different view, I liked wearing a uniform so didn’t have to think about what to wear each day (I’d probably be glad if my job had a uniform!) non-uniform days were an event picking what to wear.

I’m sure I saved my parents a fortune too not having to clothe a teen in different outfits 5 days a week. I’d imagine that’d be even worse now with social media and not want to be pictured wearing the same thing all the time.
