To wish we had someone like Mamdani in UK politics?

Someone who’s passionate, young and willing to break the rules in politics, all while caring about his city and the people in it. I wish we had someone like that here.

And you think Farage is not a performer?

I can't stand Trump or Farage (which is why it would be quite nice if one or more of the mainstream parties could get their arses in gear before we are landed with a Reform government). I'm just pointing out that Mamdani and Polanski are a failed rapper and a failed actor and not exactly statesman material. Of course, Mamdani cosying up to terrorist-adjacent imams and wanting to globalise the intifada is more concerning than his slightly Ali G leanings.

LostInManhattan · 05/11/2025 13:44

I have just been informed that Mamdani is an Arsenal fan.

I withdraw all of my support for him (tongue in cheek)

Im sure the jews in NY are going to be thrilled with an installed antisemite, not to mention the fact that he thinks that men make great women. Eyeroll.

Rather bored of the excuse that it's just "Anti Zionism" given that "Zionism" is the belief that jewish people should be able to live in their (bloody ancient) homeland without being terrorised/raped at music festivals.

SomeoneSomewheree · 05/11/2025 13:44

Mamdani won more than one million votes. He's the first candidate to do so since 1969.

He's obviously very popular to win by such a margin.

He was overwhelmingly supported by New York Jews.

Not so.
He was supported by young/liberal Jews while others openly challenged his antisemitism.

Live where you want as long as you’re not committing full scale genocide and in the process of annihilating an entire indigenous population. Jewish people voted for him, a lot of them in fact probably because they’re sick of the likes you lumping them with the lunatics committing horrendous atrocities in Palestine/Gaza.

Do you actually have a source for this because everything I have seen has been overwhelmingly supportive

I'm afraid that the genocide trope is losing it's power / shock value.
As for indigenous, oh dear.

Calling the mass and systematic murder of countless children a ‘trope’ tells me everything I need to know about you.

Palestinians are indigenous to the land of Palestine - how can you not know that?

Yeah surprise surprise liberal people support the liberal candidate and those who aren't support a sex pest(again), ethnicity/religion doesn't really come into it here. Of course those who don't believe in liberal views attacked him anyway they could, again race/ethnicity doesn't really come into it, everyone was at it whether it was accusing him of antisemitism or supporting terrorism or being a communist. He ran a fantastic campaign in the face of lots of smears on his character, a well deserved win.

Palestinians are indigenous to the land of Palestine - how can you not know that?

The Romans only renamed it Palestine to piss off the uppity Jews they had colonised, subjugated and expelled. During the British Mandate more Arabs than Jews moved into the region. Decolonising Palestine and deciding who is and isn't indigenous to that specific region would be extremely complicated. And why do the likes of Mamdani never want to decolonise Bangladesh or Pakistan or every other nation state whose creation was morally and politically complex?

The Jewish presence in Israel has been there for a good couple of thousand years, significantly predating the islamic conquests (7c).
But Im sure you know that already.

The reporting of the genocide in Gaza is not losing its power with people with a moral compass. Since the Israeli military operation began in October 2023, over 20,000 Palestinian children have been killed or have died from malnutrition due to the aid blockages by Israel. That statistic will never lose its shock value for me.

Bringemout · 05/11/2025 15:37

It’s going to be an almighty fucking disaster. His policies are awful.

Oh i just adore people with a moral compass.
So much, in fact, that I cant wait for them to have a quick change of flags and get back out there to fix the genocide and ethnic cleansing in sudan, which so far has managed to wipe out around 150,000 and displace a million in the last 18 months. Hashtag freedarfur, hashtag downwiththeRSF etc etc.

Granted its less interesting because you dont get to scream about Israel and its mainly christians being killed but still, might fill some empty days and perhaps you could get another flotilla on the go. For the children.

StandFirm · 05/11/2025 16:32

One genocide does not negate another. There can be several horrors happening in the world concurrently, all of them abhorrent and deserving of moral outrage.

Is this a serious post? "The genocide trope is losing it's [sic] power / shock value?"

The entire WORLD detests the genocidal state of Israel and you think this? Are you living under a rock or is this wishful thinking?

It’s getting worse in fact. Sde Temain rape of hostages is on the news again because they’ve arrested the Israeli lawyer who leaked it. So much for only democracy in the Middle East. No end to the list of crimes against humanity even for their ‘own’.

Hatred or a different point of view? Antisemitism is not the same as anti Zionism

No its not but antizionism is very often motivated by antisemitism among non Jews.
