I’m a female in my 30s.

Thus year I’ve gone down 5 stone from 12.5 stone to 7.5 stone (skinny minny!!)

The way I’ve sing this stick to 1300 calories a day and do one form of exercise a day e.g running for half hour or swimming for half hour or aerobics class.

I’ve also had a crush on a bloke in work and one thing definitely kept me on track with the diet/ exercise plan was saying to myself
“ if I stick to this plan today, I’ll be a bit lighter/fitter when I see John.” / this way of thinking has REALLY helped!! If you haven’t got a ‘John’ as it were, pretend that you do in a figurative sense.

how I stop myself from cheating in the evening is looking at TV programmes I want to watch or magazines/ newspapers I like. And any treats - going to spa at local leisure centre etc - anything that takes my mind away from eating!

Hope this helps at least one person in some way!

Well done OP. That must have taken a lot of willpower to stick to that diet. I definitely could not have done that and I admire any example of self discipline in others! Hope you manage to keep it off and allow yourself a treat now and again.

Thank you 😊

it definitely did take some willpower !

Believe it or not - I sometimes have beef sandwiches for breakfast !! But already packeted so I can see how many calories are in the exactly !

Aksj sandwiches for lunch and as I’m home late usually very little in the evening.

i know it’s not healthy but while dieting i drank an awful lot of Diet Coke

So pre-packed sandwiches for breakfast and lunch, “very little” in the evening, and loads of Diet Coke.

Yikes OP.

I’m glad you’re happy with your weight now but I’d implore you to think about a more balanced diet. Being healthy isn’t just about being slim.

I also don’t think you come across as unlikeable and I think you’ve had a couple of bitter jealous little comments, from calling you unlikeable to the jealous little Barb on weight loss injections, some folks really are messed up

I hope your relationship works out op and irrelevant for your weight. Good luck.

OrangeKettle · 03/11/2025 19:54

I’m sitting here on my second glass of red wine feeling super jealous that my willpower is shocking. That, and I’m sure perimenopause mean I’m 4 stone overweight

Massively impressed, OP! I'm also 5'1" and I think I am just touching 11 stone now Sad and I bloody well wish I weren't. Having done that calculation we're all meant to do now where you work out your TDI and then calculate how much you need to eat (how LITTLE you need to eat!) in order to actually lose weight, mine came out at something like 950 cal a day. And that's not sustainable for me, not every day. Deeply envious that you're doing it on 1300! But then you sound really active and healthy, well done. Smile And young too, it's a different story when you're in your 50's!

You know getting in a 15 min mile walk will push your TDI up? As will 100 skips on a rope ?

You dont have to be superwoman. I was 11.5 at 5ft 1 and 59 when I decided enough was enough

Size 16 jeans - 18 tops - dresses I had given up on.

Now Im size 8 jeans and all trousers , 10 - 12 tops

The only exercise I do is walk - about 5 miles on top of my steps and every now and then I jump on the rope or get on the bike to raise the heart rate

You really dont need to kill yourself with exercise. A 15 min mile will get your heart rate raised and will as much for you as a run - without knackering the knees

I can now do a Park Run - Walking - in 43 mins, Any time under 50 mins is classed as a run - I walk

If I try to stick to 1300 calories a day I feel terrible and my cold sores flare up. I'm 5"10 though.
I lost 3 stone in the last 12 months by using Nutracheck - 1600/700 calories a day.

Excellent!

👏👏👏

Are you aware how unlikeable you come across? Genuinely wondering…
(not jealous as I’m also a ‘slim pretty girl’ but just wonder if you have any self-awareness?)

I’m smiling reading her updates! Not unlikeable at all! She’s done amazing!

Stickywhitelovepiss · 03/11/2025 17:50

Congratulations! But - more importantly - how do you plan to manage your weight going forward and not yo yo back...? For many, losing weight is the easy bit - and 1,300 cals per day and references to "sticking to a plan" rather than making long-term changes to lifestyle suggest this could potentially be a risk going forward.

PS: I can still fit into a bridesmaid's dress I wore at 16 (size 6 - 8), and I'm 44. Three decades of iron will - but not necessarily a healthy relationship with food off the back of it. #AMA if you want the psychologically unhealthy route to slimness.

Edited

Yes you’re right!

on the face of it - it’s very impressive you can still fit into that outfit - but I know what you’re saying

Ok very interesting question.

i wanted to lose weight this year before i even knew John existed. I lost a stone before I met him so was originally actually 13.5 stone - closer to 14 stone!

however after starting a new place of work I developed a crush on him and lost weight quicker ! No dilly dallying!

So to answer your question I post weight before John but was able to do it much quicker when John came on the scene!

no John wouldn’t fancy me if I was heavier he goes for slim pretty girls !

What a weird motivation

SuperSue77 · 03/11/2025 20:12

Well done! I did something similar in my late twenties, though was only 3-4 stone over weight. My method was slimming world (I just bought the books and followed the pla, no meetings or anything) and exercised 4-5 times a week. I did pretty intensive sessions at the gym, spinning and that type of thing.

Mine was sort of motivated by a man - it was wanting one and not having one! I also went on a holiday with loads of other women my age and it was really noticable that I was the large one and I realised I couldn't carry on as I was, wasting my 'good years'.

I went on to have 3 children and stayed slim. Put a bit on, but then lost it again. But have gone backwards over the past 2-3 years, so am taking your post as inspiration to get back to it! I have the MyFitness Pal app and I intend to use it!

Good luck in your relationship with John, and with sticking with your new weight :-)

Brbreeze · 03/11/2025 17:53

Good for you! Well done, that’s a serious accomplishment. And whatever motivation works for you!

I hope you don’t mind a suggestion, but now you are in such a great position from cutting calories and doing cardio, I would suggest looking into strength training and reducing ultra processed foods in order to maximise health benefits. Have a listen to Dr Stacy Sims on a podcast or YouTube - she specialises in women’s health & exercise and has great info on how strength training improves your long term health.

Definitely. Women from their 30's onwards are the demographic that I would most recommend take part in strength and resistance training. The health benefits (both physical and mental) are huge.

BCBird · 03/11/2025 20:15

Congratulations 🎊

Bowies · 03/11/2025 20:19

Congrats OP!

YANBU - apart from John sounds shallow!

Good idea taking your time to see if something more meaningful might develop.

Doesn’t seem many calories for the amount of exercise you do.

How did you track calories, did you use an app?

lifeonmars100 · 03/11/2025 20:22

I used to go down to 1,200 calories and used to nearly pass out, get obsessed with food, get headaches, feel as if I was floating away I was so hungry. I have done calorie counting, Slimming World twice and My Fitness Pal and every time the weight has gone back on, So my questions are
how do you deal with hunger pangs, because honestly they are the pits and having a glass of water does not sate them

How do you keep the weight off? this is always my undoing

Lastfroginthebox · 03/11/2025 20:23

NadineQueue · 03/11/2025 17:04

I just count calories and I do - rightly or wrongly - eat a lot of convenience foods where calories are worked out for you

You'd probably find you could eat a lot more and more healthily and not gain weight if you avoided convenience foods and started from scratch with whole foods, fruit and vegetables.

Yes exactly. Admittedly I do a lot of exercise and fast until 1200 BUT I am also a massive foodie and eat loads during my eating window. If I ate junk I'd be huge and feel like crap. Healthy protein, heaps of veg, pulses, wholegrains and healthy fats are the way to go.

ISpyNoPlumPie · 03/11/2025 20:28

Well losing weight to improve your health and to feel good about yourself is a great thing but that’s not what you’ve done. It sounds like you are eating very little nutrient deplete food to be a “skinny minnie” so that some superficial dick will date you. Sad. The only positive thing is the exercise.

Yes I know i've done similar.

It is not rocket science to know that if you restrict your calories and exercise a lot, you will lose a lot of weight very quickly.

I did it a few years ago.And I was made redundant from work, and I had the time. I lost about twelve kilos in less than a year.

Just so you know that sort of restrictive intake and high exercise is not sustainable in the long term. I have put back more weight than I lost.

Mostly it's really not rocket science to tell people what you did in your first post. It's maintaining it. That's the problem and you've got that to come.

So John is as shallow as a puddle then? Wouldn't have given you a second glance at your original weight?

Lots of men wouldn’t look twice at a 5’1 women weighing 13 stone tho to be fair?

Doyouthinktheyknow · 03/11/2025 20:37

Well done on your weight loss, that’s awesome. For all of us our motivation is different, whatever works for you.

The only thing I would say is maybe do some reading around UPF and consider trying to make changes toward a healthier diet.

I’ve lost 4 stone this year and have transformed my diet, something I have never managed before. I eat a lot more fruit and vegetables, focus on a protein rich diet and I don’t snack. I gave up sugar in tea and coffee and am now trying to eliminate sweeteners from everyday diet too. I don’t crave biscuits or crisps anymore and they used to be a an integral part of my diet. I’m slowly trying to eliminate UPF from my diet, although it’s not always easy.
