So regardless of whether you agree with it or not, what is it that you think her viewpoint is then?

potpourree · 01/11/2025 13:57

I guess the weird 'comeback' that "women only complain about the notion of men literally becoming women when this is impossible because they aren't as feminine as these people!!!" might seem amusing the first time it's fired off, but after a decade of this being wheeled out again and again you start to wonder if they actually believe that is what people are complaining about. But that would mean they hadn't listened to any of the women, so.... obviously no way that's likely....

I don't get your humour. What do you find funny about their response?

Funny = it made me laugh. It’s as simple as that. You don’t get to police my sense of humour unless I’m laughing at something offensive.

I'm not policing your sense of humour at all. That's a leap. I'm simply asking what you find funny about it?

You've summarised it? Where?
Or can you not actually put forward your viewpoint honestly?

Do an internet search. It’s pretty clear and many many women don’t agree with her or the MN obsessives who have nothing better to do than start dull, nasty threads over and again. She is wrong.

As you were, enjoy your weekend of frothing and hatred spewing. Some of us have an enough confidence in being a woman that we can celebrate others and feeling empathy.

JKR 100% correct.

YABU. Great response from Glamour. Hatred of trans people is no different to the past prevalence and social acceptance of homophobia. Shame on anyone who agrees with JK Rowling.

You cannot be that stupid, surely.

JellySaurus · 01/11/2025 14:06

Haz3lW00d · 01/11/2025 13:44

Oh do give over they are absolutely not making the trans community to be better than women. In the magazines 30 year history trans women have only been on the cover twice, JK Rowling herself has been on it. It’s so dull and ridiculous, the levels of obsessiveness and attempts to make a meal out of nothing over and again. Has she seriously got nothing better to do and has she seriously got such a poor view of women that she feels they’re threatened by a magazine cover celebrating achievement. It’s really sad and she does women a dis service.

Of course Glamour are making out that trans-identifying men are better than women! They put 9 men on the cover and called them ‘women of the year’. 🙄

Hardly a cover, TBH. Hasn’t Glamour gone from a glossy mag, once read almost exclusively by women, to a merely clickbait-for-ads website desperate for any promotion?

‘Frothing’ 🤣 Out comes the bingo card.

Do you champion trans women in women’s sports too?

potpourree · 01/11/2025 14:10

Do an internet search
She said "Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?"

You don't seem able to articulate what you find wrong about that.

When I "did an internet search" to see what all the fuss was about trans people I saw shocking misogyny and homophobia from those insisting that being female somehow says something about someone as a person. That's why I consider it important to engage with instead of dishonestly handwaving away. Perhaps one day you might too.

All you have in way of response is this emotional blustering.

What is wrong with people saying 'these men can dress how they like, but we're not going to pretend they're actually women because they aren't'.

Can you explain?

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 01/11/2025 14:19

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/11/2025 13:55

Yes. A funny one.

Humour is subjective. I didn’t find it funny.

Haz3lW00d · 01/11/2025 13:52

In your opinion. I feel very differently.

This relentless need to prioritise men with special feelings over women no matter what is tedious.

It really is. And I cringe for the women cheering it on. Sad.

Quite. And that’s okay, just as it’s okay for me to have been amused by it.

Just like it’s okay for me to think what glamour has done is wrong and that JKR is 100% right for highlighting this.

The whole glitter family shit is going to throw up a lot of skeletons before long, as has started happening with alphabet youth groups in Scotland.

Yuck. Yet advertisement use him to sell products. Avoid.

If you’re happy with Glamour magazine to name men as women of the year then that’s your prerogative. Just don’t expect everyone to believe that men can become women.

Unfortunately they are there representing a movement that has pushed for medical experiments on children and men being put in jail with women, among many other rights abuses. Calling women 'dolls' is sexist and misogynistic and only something a quite messed up male would do. I thought like you before I properly looked into the issue.

Of course. What, did you think we'd threaten to rape and kill you, post your real life location on the internet with bomb making guides, accuse you of genocide, bring about vexatious legal complaints and try to get you arrested? What kind of barmy army does that when it hears opinions it doesn't like?

I thought like this before I properly researched what was happening. I mean, I didn't think JK was hateful - I'm a better judge of character than that - I just thought she was wrong. Then I looked into it further and... holy shit. My change of opinion was based on gaining further information, not on suddenly becoming less secure as a woman or a drop in empathy.
