Was listening to some music today and after my playlist was finished Spotify went off on its own little algorithm-y journey, and I suddenly found myself listening to a song so beautiful I had it on repeat for about an hour. That sort of thing happens to me very rarely, so I thought I’d see if anyone else could recommend songs that have struck them in a similar way.

Pink - Dear Mr President

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 28/10/2025 22:23

Does it have to be popular music? I have far too many but I love "Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables, and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Eva Cassidy.

Both always stir up things in me. 😢

Two Tribes by FGTH.

I can vividly remember where I was and what I was doing.
The extended (EP) version is my favourite track of all time.

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 28/10/2025 22:25

Ooh and "To See A Friend In Tears" by James Dean Bradfield 💖

ThePure · 28/10/2025 22:26

To Zion by Lauren Hill. The whole Miseducation album is genius and means a lot to me but the emotion of this song blows me away. It really sums up for me the overwhelming love and joy you feel for your child.

Tryingatleast · 28/10/2025 22:26

he ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

then, strangely(!)- heavy by delta Goodrem, I identified with it so much it literally stopped my breath. Afterwards I found out it was about her health and I felt so self absorbed

Alittlefrustrated · 28/10/2025 22:26

Truly, Madly, Deeply - Savage Garden

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 28/10/2025 22:27

Brilliant thread. I have so many songs that stop me in my tracks in a positive way however James blunts your beautiful makes me squirm every time I hear it. I have no idea what it is about that song but it’s just awful and I cannot for the life of me understand why it was so popular (
used at many a wedding).First time I heard it it stopped me in my tracks and I was like YUK!

Blueskiesandrainbows · 28/10/2025 22:28

The First Time (ever I saw your face) George Michael … I absolutely love it.

Figrolls14 · 28/10/2025 22:28

Bloozie · 28/10/2025 22:29

Which one of us has enough time to make a public spotify playlist of these...?

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 28/10/2025 22:29

Oh another: "Eleanor Rigby" - the classic line "... wearing the face that she keeps in the jar by the door..."

Love it.

IfalldownbutIgetupagain · 28/10/2025 22:29

Oh how could I forget, Songbird by Fleetwood Mac

OneMoreProfiterole · 28/10/2025 22:29

SilverStripedSunset · 28/10/2025 21:48

Sunshine on Leith - either the Proclaimers or Coldplay version. Just pure emotion every time I hear it.

Never knew about the Coldplay cover, had to google it immediately! Beautiful… thank you so much for that x

Fernticket · 28/10/2025 22:29

Don't know why, by Norah Jones.
I wasn't going to fall in love, by Carol King.
Too cool to fall in love, by Jill Sobule.
The man with the child in his eyes, by Kate Bush.
Everybody hurts, by R.E.M.
Deacon Blue by Steely Dan.

Bedheadbeachbum · 28/10/2025 22:29

Building a bridge to your heart - Wax when I was a kid, just got me so into 80s music.

I read a story once about HMV or somewhere like that playing Orinoco Flow by Enya back when it was just released and all the customers went mad for it, buying copies straight away. I like that story.

OverlyFragrant · 28/10/2025 22:30

Sweet Love by Augustine.
I've now been to see him twice, and think I am single handedly responsible for half of his Spotify listens.
Both of his albums are just pure musical perfection.
Similarly, Scorpio by Sarah Klang.

Both songs seem narrate a specific point in my life when I was in love with the most beautiful man with a beautiful soul but it wasn't to be.

Weirdddd · 28/10/2025 22:31

And Demi lovato - anyone
switched over to the Grammys to her singing it live and it was so powerful. I’d just watched my sister battle the same battles she had, was so moving

BunnyLake · 28/10/2025 22:33

Maestoso · 28/10/2025 21:52

Perfume Genius - Valley, Just Like Love
Kate Bush - Never Be Mine, Get Out of My House
Hamilton Leithauser & Rostam - In A Black Out

Re Get out of my house, I think the whole Dreaming album stopped me in my tracks. I didn’t like it at first and then I became obsessed with it.

PoisedGoldBiscuit · 28/10/2025 22:33

Ahh I love this thread.
One Fine Day - Elbow
To Build a Home - The Cinematic Orchestra (This is Us fans might get this one)

IsItBeesThoughLooshkin · 28/10/2025 22:34

The mercy seat by Johnny Cash, about a man on death row. It’s a Nick Cave song apparently but I’ve never heard the original and I don’t want to because this version is perfection and I can’t imagine anyone doing it better.

John Foxx Underpass, when I first heard it (way back in 1980) I was so stunned i had to pull t9 the side of the road so I could listen properly

Me and a mate ruined this by renaming it "Underpants"

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 28/10/2025 22:36

Too many to list here. The most recent song to do this to me was Good Girls by Josie Edwards
