Trans woman in Riot Women! WTF?

OneBadKitty · 18/10/2025 19:59

I usually love anything by Sally Wainwright, but what was she thinking by have a trans-woman in a band called Riot Women that is supposed to be full of menopausal women singing about HRT and other female related issues?

A male playing a woman in a ‘woman’s’ drama is what is being objected to.

But that isn't what's happening. This is a transwoman playing a transwoman in a women's drama. I mean, unless you think a 'women's drama' should have a cast that is 100% female, this is just silly. And in any case, it's fiction. This outrage about a fictional televisino programme is not helping the cause of women's rights in the slightest.

Has SW actually said that though? It is apparently not mentioned in any blurb and it seems that only PPs on here have decided that because he looks so obviously male, it would be a massive stretch to pretend anyone thought he was female.

BIossomtoes · 25/10/2025 11:38

you say what was observed at the time as an aspect of the pro abortion campaign that prevented clear messaging was ‘insignificant’?

Absolutely I do. If it had been significant I’d definitely have noticed it. And I didn’t.

But you don’t seem to see the issue with women losing their words generally so you might have overlooked the significance.

BundleBoogie · 25/10/2025 12:00

Notsofastnow · 25/10/2025 11:33

Squirrel - over there!

Let me see if I have this straight… you’re saying the transwoman actor playing a transwoman role should not be doing that because you feel that trans people asking for inclusive language were responsible for the removal of abortion rights in the USA.

The whataboutery and reaching is off the scale.

Seriously?? PP was berating me for apparently not caring about women’s abortion rights in the US.

You are getting g rather desperate

thepariscrimefiles · 25/10/2025 12:10

BundleBoogie · 25/10/2025 09:29

I think that more women in the US are suffering due to the adjudicated sex offender in the White House and the stripping away of a woman's right to choose whether to continue with an unwanted or unviable pregnancy

Thats’ your opinion. But why are you making it a numbers thing? Imo, removing the words and rights of 50% if the population is a pretty significant problem as is the removal of abortion rights. And as I’ve just mentioned trans activists hijacked much of the abortion campaign and imo hampered the efforts by obscuring the language to favour trans people.

What about the poor woman who was brain dead but kept alive for months against the family's wishes until they could deliver the baby? I don't know how you can even think of holding up the current US government as a bastion of women's rights. It's like a sick joke.

That sounds like a very tragic case. I have no idea why you think that highlighting the issues caused to women by trans activism means that I don’t care about abortion rights? 🤷‍♀️

Do point out anywhere where I have ‘held up the current US government as a bastion of women’s rights’. Maybe try reading what I have actually said.

I’m guessing that in you and other PPs starting to make up stuff I haven’t said and defending violent language against women as long as it’s said by the right type of man, you’ve run out of arguments.

My response was due to the fact that you blamed the Democrats for removing 'women's rights and words'. There is now a Republican President and Republican majorities in the House and in the Senate. While most feminists agree that the Republicans are an utter disaster for women's rights and reproductive freedoms, some women don't care about that as long as the government is anti-trans. I assumed that you were one of those women.

Yes, and then you somehow shoehorned in trans people as being responsible for that massive, very tangible and actually life threatening loss to the rights of millions of women in a vast nation.

You’re trying to position a transwoman actor in the UK as responsible for serious actual harm done to women’s rights.

Just because another poster introduced the topic of loss of abortion right is not justification for you to put that at the door of this actor.

For the 'insane trans hate'?! Or, refusal to accept that men can become women. It isn't hate it's fact.

They can dress as they like, wear as much make up as they like but it doesn't change facts and there is nothing hateful about stating that. The only hateful thing on that board are the TRA wankers who try to debate and fail every time.

I'd avoid that board too unless you're very intelligent and able to explain why facts don't matter. But yes, if unable to take on strong women just call them insane or toxic if it makes you feel better.

See, you say "TRA wankers"which we all know means "everyone with a different opinion to the board's group think" - because brains on their don't compute that women can disagree. No, they have to be lumped as a "TRA" activist/man to fit the narrative.
"Plus "unable to take on strong women" - again, you're talking to others who are as well right now in here! 🙄
To the insults and smears shows a lot about you.

Gloriia · 25/10/2025 12:55

'FWR regulars. So very intelligent, incisive, factual and logical'

Very true yes, well done.

Gloriia · 25/10/2025 12:57

'See, you say "TRA wankers"which we all know means "everyone with a different opinion to the board's group think"

No, I mean TRA wankers, the 'fuck terfs' variety. I can cope with their opinions and happy to correct them.

Serpentstooth · 25/10/2025 13:02

It's time to drag this ludicrous 'discussion' off to the Costa. Anyone got a thing to say about Les in Benidorm? School us please.

Trans women are though, and given that places like mumsnet spend an inordinate about of time spreading hate and vitriol about that 0.5% of the population (btw it’s weird how trans men are never accused of being sick and twisted fetishists who ‘have a sexual desire to dress up in men’s clothes’ isn’t it?), it’s probably quite important to see representation of someone who just seems like someone pretty normal and getting on with their life, you know, like the vast majority of us are allowed to do.

It is sad that you don’t understand why trans men aren’t seen as potentially a threat. Hint: it is because they are women.

Namechanged999999 · 25/10/2025 13:22

Notsofastnow · 23/10/2025 10:15

You’re being obtuse and ridiculous. Get a grip.

The transwoman wore a t-shirt saying fuck terfs. That’s not hostile to women - that’s hostile to terfs, and frankly is pretty justified given the volume of terfy noise on this thread directed against a trans actor for playing a trans part.

If it is true that he wore a t-shirt with that message then this ‘show’ should be banned and the BBC charged with an offence.

It wasn’t in the show - it was on one social post, worn by the transwoman actor.

At least try to RTFT before weighing in with hyped up opinions.

Can’t make it. I’m too busy reading up on the poor behaviour of some trans activists.

If you’re going to respond to my posts at least do me the courtesy of not making up things I haven’t said. I didn’t hold up the current US government as a bastion of women’s rights.

I criticised the Democrats for removing women’s rights and words. That was in response to being accused of not caring about women’s abortion rights in America.

I am bemused as to why you are now suddenly interested in US politics on a thread about a UK fictional drama. I have only been responding to comments since a PP randomly accused me of not caring about women’s abortion rights in the US.

Yet I’M the one being accused of deflection and shoehorning issues ? It’s quite laughable really.

It’s impressive how determined some people are to berate women for having the temerity to state an opinion on the inclusion of a man representing a woman in a drama supposedly about women.

#bekind at its best 🤣

Lol - I didn't bring up US politics. Another poster did which you responded to, blaming the Democrats. I just disagreed with your points. Between the Democrats and Republicans, I know which are the lesser of the two evils where women's rights are concerned, and it certainly isn't the Republicans. Some women will agree with any far right charlatan just because 'at least they know what a woman is'. Donald Trump was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a department store dressing room, but apparently trans women are more dangerous to other women than he is.

The idea that words are more likely to strip women of their rights than actual actions is so ludicrous I have no words.

And the UK right is in the pocket of the US right, so what happens over there matters.

Runnersandtoms · 30/10/2025 08:40

I've watched the first few episodes and enjoyed it but the presence of the trans character irritated me, just in that way that there always, has to be a bloody trans character in everything. (I'm looking at you, the makers of 'A man called Otto' who just had to change a gay character from the book to a trans character)

In some ways I liked the fact the character was just a minor one and they weren't all talking about him /the story wasn't about him. But I did think it was a bit unlikely that a women who is freaking out and in denial about her daughter being bisexual is so fine with her son(?) being trans-identified that she just calls him Miranda and carries on seemingly oblivious.

Kuretake · 30/10/2025 09:52

She's not freaking out about her daughter being bisexual is she? I thought it was that she didn't like the particular woman she was with?

Serpentstooth · 30/10/2025 20:08

Wait till 'they' start putting a transperson in 'every advert'. How will you cope with that? Rather better than recent commenters have managed with the handful of mixed race casts discussed elsewhere, hopefully.
