Hairdresser won't accept fault

I've shown her my hair and how the cut looks like indepdent layers. Everything was just fine to her and this is how layers are supposed to be....

I called her this morning and she didn't even need to know my name. It was like she knew it was bad. She didn't ask for photos or ask me to come up, just said that's how layers are.

Even when I went in for a refund than she didn't want to see my hair, I suggested it. I showed her how it looks like layers and not blended, choppy.

It was a local place. Silly me. Thought a hair cut is easy.

She also said my highlights needed redoing .. weird...

Curly hair sits differently, even when it is straightened, and is harder to cut because of that.

I'm guessing the stylist washed, dried, and straightened your hair for the cut, and after she finished it, it looked OK?

She probably took smaller sections, got the flat irons closer to the root, and had your hair sitting a lot flatter than you can get it, or she had some movement on the ends.

If you like long layers on straight hair, then next time you should wash and straighten your hair before you go and ask for a dry cut on that. That way the stylist can work with your hair in the way it normally sits when you style it.

It would look a lot better with some movement on the ends. Try drying it with a large barrel round brush and slightly turning the flat iron at the ends when you straighten it.

I always ask my hair dresser to cut it dry, after it's been straightened. Im 45 so over the years I've had lots of hairdressers due to moving, budget, them moving etc.

I know my hair is best done by washing, drying, flat iron and cu t. Some have tried to blow dry it straight but the iron is always best.

I try and be flexible so she did a wet cut and was supposed to tidy it up after dried and flat iron.

However I could tell it was a bad job and even when I was home and tried it myself with the flat iron it wasn't better.

My hairdresser who is great colouring but not so good cutting wouldn't use the flat iron but he wouldn't be cutting it much.

. Which is why it's so bloody long.

Oh well, she’s got her comeuppance of really really shit hair. Her hairdresser probably did it on purpose if her attitude here is anything to go by

Ive just qualified as a hairdresser and I would gave done a better job than that.
Definitely write a review, it can be fixed but you might have to lose some of the length to be able to blend it.

Oh sorry, you don’t think the haircut is shit?

I would hate to know you in real life, you sound incredibly rude.

What do you want OP?

You got your refund.
You’ve started 2 threads.
You can choose to leave a review.

You need to let it go.

I feel sorry for your partner if you are taking it out on them too.

No she doesn't, you sound rude.

She's upset about her haircut and venting about it, like many people do when they have a bad haircut.
And she's met with stupid responses repeating 'what do you want, what do you want, what do you want'.

She wants to vent and she probably would have liked it to have been acknowledged and for an apology and in an ideal world it wouldn't have happened.

Is that so difficult to understand that people need it to be spelled out to them or that people feel it's in any way necessary to say ''what do you want' what do you want' over and over.

Calling someone rude, just because they're fed up responding to nonsense, and then you go and repeat the same nonsense.....

Dearg · 18/10/2025 13:32

It doesn’t look great, like you I would expect the layers to blend better.

But a decent hair cut is not easy, and you are undervaluing the good cutters out there by saying that.

What???

Thank you.

Yes it's strangely bizarre that people think I don't have a place to vent about the hairdresser not owning the cut is bad and think it's nothing. I think most of us do like to feel good within our selves and not having to worry about a lobsided chop is one way.

@neveragainmillyi like colouring the most.
Haircutting is hard, but if you are working in a salon you do need to make sure your doing the job correctly and that you listen to your clients needs and advise them as best you can.
I really hope you get it sorted.

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 18/10/2025 18:13

That is a bad cut. Yes they’re paid and trained to do it but why are some hairdressers better than others? Any profession is the same -
im a trained teacher and have met some other trained teachers who are not any good. My best cut ever was at a very expensive salon in Notting Hill - it was a fab investment but I did have to eat baked beans for a while 😂

FannyCann · 18/10/2025 19:12

Well done getting a refund - I’m such a wimp I’d have just gone elsewhere and asked for it to be sorted out.
You have lovely hair which would look great in a sharp straight cut, no layers - try that.

I once had a groupon hair cut - went through a Polish deli into a weird back room with crystals and glow lights. Lovely chap doing my hair, we had an interesting discussion about education in UK v Poland (he had children). But he wasn’t a hairdresser. He picked up clumps of hair and chopped a bit like my husband would if I was stupid enough to offer him a pair of scissors. Fortunately the end result wasn’t too bad but that’s the last groupon haircut I’ve ever had. Back to decent salons since then.

WiddlinDiddlin · 18/10/2025 19:33

Glad you got a refund.

I really don't know whats got into people - that is a basic bread and butter cut, theres nothing difficult about it, my friend (part trained at college, part trained on the job) taught me, not a hairdresser AT ALL, how to do it easily, as long as its straight hair and a pretty long layer, it is not a difficult cut at all.

She's done a shit job, she absolutely owed you a refund and she needs to pull her fucking socks up as there really are no excuses for doing such a shit job of something she should be able to do blindfold standing on her head!

My dogs haircuts are better than that, I do one of them whilst he's trying to fall off the table or climb on me!

WigglywagglyWanda · 18/10/2025 20:00

Yeh its awful. And hair is important to our sense of wellbeing, at least for me anyway.

So youre looking at your terrible cut, and yes shes refunded it immediately, but you wanted an acknowledgement of how its made you feel, and unfortunately shes probably totally embarrassed and thinks the refund is enough. Not very professional.

I would leave an honest review and those photos, stating that you received a refund but not an acknowledgement of the mess she made.

Im the meantime I would probably stop straightening it and let the ends bend naturally, or with the help of a bit of a beachy wave, I think that would improve the look, but acknowledge you shouldn't have to do that!

Get a hairdresser to come to your home, I think it would be easily sorted.

Shesastar76 · 19/10/2025 16:15

What a terrible thing to say, u thought a hair cut was easy. With that attitude I'm not surprised they won't refund u, neither would I.

Oh dear - did you somehow read the OP's multiple posts saying "they've refunded me" as saying the exact opposite?

Shesastar76 · 19/10/2025 17:05

Sorry. Guilty as charged!

JillMW · 19/10/2025 17:08

Oh gosh, I know it sounds small but I would be upset too! It does take ages out of a day to go to the hairdressers. A bad cut and that awful highlight stripe she has done down the back, I can see why you are annoyed! Did you ask for a refund for the highlights as well as the cut? I most definitely would not let her do either again.
I know it takes time you don’t have but is there a good salon you can go to who do supervised junior appointments? It sounds risky but I have been really chuffed, got a very expensive cut for a fraction of the cost.

IsSheOkayOrWhat · 19/10/2025 17:18

Don’t go back to the girl who cut it, if she can’t see an issue she won’t know how to fix it.
It is a bad haircut I must admit.
If you can afford it I’d go somewhere different.
sorry this has happened, I’m a hairdresser and hate seeing stuff like this.

HausofHolbein · 19/10/2025 18:13

Can you get a mobile hairdresser to come to you?

I'd be devastated if someone did that to me. The hairdresser is 100% in the wrong (and the refund isn't the point!)

rebecca2727 · 19/10/2025 18:39

I’m a hairdresser, it needs a recut , level up the layers and chip into the ends. I would find a new salon . Get recommendations 1st x

BuildbyNumbere · 19/10/2025 19:53

Awful, looks like child has hacked at it with some kitchen scissors … is there no manager to complain to?
