Hairdresser won't accept fault

neveragainmilly · 18/10/2025 13:29

I've shown her my hair and how the cut looks like indepdent layers. Everything was just fine to her and this is how layers are supposed to be....

I called her this morning and she didn't even need to know my name. It was like she knew it was bad. She didn't ask for photos or ask me to come up, just said that's how layers are.

Even when I went in for a refund than she didn't want to see my hair, I suggested it. I showed her how it looks like layers and not blended, choppy.

It was a local place. Silly me. Thought a hair cut is easy.

She also said my highlights needed redoing .. weird...

Yes, the haircut is shit.

From what you say, the hairdresser gave your money back with no argument, and didn't really want to engage with you about it, which makes me think that she probably knows the haircut was bad.

Fact is, whatever her thoughts were, she was never going to say to you 'sorry about that @neveragainmilly, my haircutting skills are a bit shit aren't they', which is what you seem to want?

I just find the interaction a bit weird

My god that’s bad I’m not a hairdresser and even I know that’s not layers.

My god that’s bad I’m not a hairdresser and even I know that’s not layers.

It is layers, it is just not blended properly for straight hair, but, playing devil's advocate, we don't know what op asked for.

That cut would probably look amazing with some movement or loose curls, if that is what OP showed the stylist, then all the stylist has done wrong is not carrying out a thorough consult and assuming OP would style and wave/curl her hair daily.

I usually advise against layers on straight hair because they always look a bit shit. Layers are for adding movement and volume. On straight hair, it always looks to me like the cut is not quite right, no matter how well-blended they are. face framing layers on straight hair - yes, layers through the length - no it looks shit.

OP looks like she has thick hair, too, which is going to exacerbate the sort of choppy, shredded, weirdness layers on straight hair gives.

..."

Are you 1 dimensional

I would hate to know you in real life, you sound incredibly rude.

What do you want OP?

You can't leave it like that OP. I'd make the sacrifice and go to another salon to get it sorted .

I think this is what I was trying to say upthread but you put it better. OP says her hair was washed and straightened and she asked for a dry cut. That being the case, and that her hair is naturally curly the result didn’t surprise my mum who was a hairdresser for over forty years.

Tontostitis · 18/10/2025 16:41

neveragainmilly · 18/10/2025 13:40

Well I don't know what to do.

I got my money back easily but also yes.

Good grief your opening sentence is refused to accept fault well refunding is accepting fault

She was embarrassed and her reaction was to be defensive about the cut. That's her problem she won't last long in the business.

This is also the side.

Ooooooh! That will take ages to grow out. I see why you are so disheartened.

I'm so sorry. I thought I'd be able to suggest something but even I'd cry at that 😔 ❤️

What doesn't surprise you? My hair is wavy and has been cut many times before satisfactory .

Not to my liking. Years of chemical, straightening, hair ties etc. it can sometimes be a nice wavy but I'm self conscious and it drops. Plus so much effort and not using a hair brush which I like to use

It doesn't matter what it looks like when it's wavy; those are terrible layers.

@neveragainmilly I would go somewhere else to get it fixed up. A better hairdresser may be able to blend the ends and tidy it up a bit. You may have to lose some length, though.

Fair enough. Mine's wavy and I know it can be a bit hit and miss.

I just wondered if you'd tried it since the cut and whether that would be the lesser of two evils until you can get it blended/it had grown a bit.

I will give it a try on wash day!

Curly hair sits differently, even when it is straightened, and is harder to cut because of that.

I'm guessing the stylist washed, dried, and straightened your hair for the cut, and after she finished it, it looked OK?

She probably took smaller sections, got the flat irons closer to the root, and had your hair sitting a lot flatter than you can get it, or she had some movement on the ends.

If you like long layers on straight hair, then next time you should wash and straighten your hair before you go and ask for a dry cut on that. That way the stylist can work with your hair in the way it normally sits when you style it.

It would look a lot better with some movement on the ends. Try drying it with a large barrel round brush and slightly turning the flat iron at the ends when you straighten it.

Yep. I dobt mind length iys the shortness of the layers fhag i dont like

I know exactly how you feel, especially if your hair doesn’t grow fast. But unfortunately nothing can be done now except get it cut even shorter or wait for it to grow back

Rumpledandcrumpled · 18/10/2025 13:38

Yes I’m stunned folks are saying oh well it’s not easy. I mean that’s their bloody jobs.

I think people are interpreting “easy” as “not much skill involved”.

ChocolateBoxCottage · 18/10/2025 17:14

I knew a hairdresser who purposely fucked up people hair if they asked for a few layers. She would cut two or three vertical lines across the hair and post the pictures in FB pointing out the clients "stupidity" because they didn't get the terminology right and ask for some layers.

She was deeply unwell. No idea how she kept getting away with it.

You are 100% right to be annoyed. I have a wavy haired friend who likes to straighten her hair sometimes, and it has never looked like that.

It can be fixed. Just look for a hair dresser with great reviews.

Eyelashesoffire · 18/10/2025 17:19

If it's hassle to get to a salon. I'd get a mobile hairdresser in. I haven't been to a salon in years, it's so convenient when they come to your house.

Sounds like she still is getting away lol
