Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

https://news.sky.com/story/maccabi-tel-aviv-fans-will-not-be-allowed-to-attend-aston-villa-match-amid-safety-concerns-13451240

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

There is literally no similarity with this case.

In effect Muslims have demanded that no Jews come into their area and have threatened violence if they do. Mob rule has won.

This was the purpose of the thread to begin with a little night time Muslim bashing.

I welcome the news that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be permitted to watch the match at Aston Villa! Well done to all those that signed our petition!

Jews are not banned from the game. Macabi fans are banned from the game. It would be antisemitism if all Jews were banned from the game. They’re not.

The MP himself stated that local residents objected to MTV fans attending on a moral basis. How on earth do you dress that up as anything other than anti-semitism?

BerryTwister · 16/10/2025 22:31

Anonycat · 16/10/2025 22:00

If they behave badly they should be arrested. They should not be banned in case they behave badly.

@Anonycat I think you need to watch some footage of football hooligans. It’s really not as simple as “they should be arrested”.

Well, we see you too.

And “never again” should extend to all populations, not only the ones you deem worthy. Shame on you.

How many Jewish Villa fans do you think will attend the game wearing a kippah?

I’ll guess none. Why do you think that might be?

Op won’t respond, gone into hiding as the thread hasn’t gone the way she wants. We are still getting over the recent attack in Manchester and OP wants more violence on our streets from a well known instigator. Honestly OP pull the thread it’s embarrassing.

”We are still getting over the recent attack in Manchester “
Hang on I thought you were against Jews and all for the Pally hate marches.
Or am I thinking if someone else.

FrippEnos · 16/10/2025 22:07

From the posts on here, it looks like there of plenty of pro hooligan posters making the same mistake.

There’s a hooligan element at most football matches. If they’re going to start banning fans on the basis of bringing hooligans with them, then go ahead. I’m up for that. But people are deliberately interpreting this ban as similar to this situation. It isn’t. It’s because Villa is in Birmingham where there’s a large Muslim community who have cried and stamped their feet, not wanting the Israeli fans to come into their domain. And they’ve been pandered to. I hope the security is equally stringent in preventing anyone attending the game who intends to shout abuse against the Israeli players, and that police will remove any inflammatory banners and flags.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 16/10/2025 22:36

Popopopopol · 16/10/2025 20:50

I understand where you’re coming from but similarly, the police do sometimes need to be pragmatic.

I think police should have the final say and also stop the hate marches.

Stealth18 · 16/10/2025 22:39

ColadhSamh · 16/10/2025 22:14

Disgusting response. Banning has nothing to do with religion but all to do with violent, racist, abusive thugs. They have a long standing reputation

Do you really believe the ban is due to the threat the Maccabi fans themselves pose or do you think it is because of the threat posed by those who oppose them?

If you’re not sure of the answer you might want to check out some of what the local MP has said and written. It’s most enlightening.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 16/10/2025 22:40

ColadhSamh · 16/10/2025 20:45

Well done Aston Villa. Macabi Tel Aviv fans terrorised local people in Amsterdam in Nov 24. when they played Ajax. They targeted Arab taxi drivers and beat them up, went through Arab/Asian districts shouting racist slogans at the communities and harassing women.
They are well known thugs throughout the football world.

Edited

This. They're a bunch of thugs, like their government.

Whats also abhorrent is that you don’t seem to care about Palestinians being slaughtered in their 10s of thousands (not an opinion, a fact) by the IDF (self defence!! Those toddlers are dangerous!!) but suddenly seem to care when Hamas start killing them (which by the way I completely abhor as well. It is possible to have sympathy with both the hostages and the Palestinian civilians…it’s the media that will make you think most people don’t. Most people
actually are capable of holding both beliefs.

Slaughtered in their tens of thousands due to a war started by Hamas. Let’s not forget that. And what’s been achieved? Nothing. People dead just because Hamas decided one night that it would be fun to go over the border to a musical festival and rape torture and kidnap civilians. Then rather than release the hostages to save their people, they prolong the killings for two years, whilst safely tucking themselves away under hospitals and schools. What was their aim? What were they hoping to achieve? Because as far as I can see all that’s been gained is a couple of thousand of Palestinian prisoners being released, which I’m sure wasn’t what Hamas did this for when they started out. And I’m not showing sympathy for the Palestinians being killed by Hamas - we all knew that was coming. I’m highlighting the fact that people are aghast at Israel shooting 7 Palestinians for threatening behaviour, but don’t seem to care that Hamas are also killing Palestinians.

stomachamelon · 16/10/2025 22:50

Ajax- a predominantly Jewish club was targeted and so were the Maccabi Tel Aviv fans. They do have a reputation but most clubs have Ultras of some sort and description.
That was not a one way street. People were mown down. People were arrested for antisemitic attacks. Clubs are not defined by their ‘ultras’. They would have been lots of ‘full kit wanker’ types there who just travel and support the club.
This thread is another example of characterising anything Jewish/ Israeli as ‘bad’ and ‘ shame on you’, it’s a genocide etc.
This is about a game of football. The clubs know who the issues are and they could have been prevented from travelling- like others do regularly. UEFA have not banned Israeli clubs from taking part so it’s a ban via the back door to appease certain groups.
The whataboutery on this thread is ridiculous and follows everything Israel related…. Almost looks…. Oh what’s the word?
article sited…. There are loads and a statement from the King of The Netherlands.

Napsarelife · 16/10/2025 22:50

It wasnt Villa's choice, The Safety Advisory Group informed Villa of there desion based on intel from West Midlands Police and other sources, based on current intelligence, previous incidents including violent clashes and hate crimes, the Netherlands police made 62 arrests last year, why should our police force have to deal with that! Football should be a family friendly sport and theres no room for that kind of behaviour. If they had behaved themselves previously this wouldnt of happened. FACT! Not everything is to do with ethnicity and race.

@Livelovebehappy the situation here is that it’s a big game. These Europa League games always are. They’re evening matches too, so there’s a big build up, and lots of drinking to be done beforehand.

The people who make these decisions (not Aston Villa FC) have essentially risk assessed the situation. They’ve got a large local Muslim population, some of whom are no doubt violent thugs who love nothing more than a good fight. And they’ve got a visiting team with a fan base that is known to be violent, destructive, and anti Muslim.

In the middle of this they’ve got peaceful locals who have no opinion either way, may not even care about football, and just want to go about their day as usual. And they’ve also got police who need to be dealing with other crimes across the city that day. They’ve got local businesses who don’t want riots on the streets and their windows broken.

Of course the decision might be different if it wasn’t for the Isreal Palestine conflict, because although there’d be some fighting and thuggery, it would be more of the “usual” football stuff. Less emotionally charged than it is now. But that doesn’t make the decision antisemitic. It’s a sensible logical decision made to avoid more conflict.

The Tel Aviv team will have plenty of home games in the tournament, so they won’t go short of football.

@Napsarelifeaccording to Wikipedia 10 were maccabi fans which leaves 52?? What?? Not Maccibi fans? And who went to court and where charged and did jail time? Also not Maccabi fans?

Do you know how many of the 62 were Macabi fans and how many were part of the "Jew hunt" that happened that night in Amsterdam?

I don’t disagree that hamas are evil?
what do you mean by ‘i’m not showing sympathy for palestinans, we all knew that was coming’? What is that meant to mean? You have no sympathy at all? Even for the children? I genuinely struggle with this. Why is it not possible to say killing civilians in Israel and taking hostages = bad. Killing thousands upon thousands in response and flattening a whole territory = bad. Why is that so hard?

stomachamelon · 16/10/2025 22:57

‘If they had behaved themselves previously this wouldn’t have happened’
Great bit of victim blaming.
Who else was arrested, charged and have done jail time?
