Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

You seem pleased, @ThatGladTigerkind of getting a whiff of maniacal, from you...

Given the location of the Villa ground this is probably a sensible move. I imagine mass “free Palestine” crowd in the vicinity

The people who would be flapping around their Palestinian flags don’t generally attend football matches. And if they did try to get into the ground with them, just refuse entry.

BerryTwister · 16/10/2025 21:30

In 2019 England played Bulgaria in a qualifier in Sofia. Bulgarian fans did nazi salutes and made monkey noises. Subsequently Bulgarian fans were not allowed to attend the next 2 national team matches. Was that discrimination OP? Banning your own fans from games? Or was it a sensible move, considering what they’d done ?

@Livelovebehappy I’m not sure if you’re aware, but away fans don’t just hop off the train, go to the game, then go straight home afterwards. They go out in town, often get drunk, and if they’re nasty thugs, they look for fights, and things to damage. Are you saying that all the local Muslims should stay at home that day, just so a gang of fans with a history of violence can attend a football match?

nomas · 16/10/2025 20:53

You should look at the news, Israel killed 6 Palestinians on Tuesday AFTER the ceasefire.

Edited

Palestinians who were threatening Israelis and trying to attack Israeli military, as opposed to Hamas shooting their own people in the back of the head because they accused them of collaborating with Israel, but decided not to give them a trial because they found it more fun to just flex their muscles following the cease fire and shoot them for fun. So absolutely no comparison. Can’t you see that…..?

Unarmed civilians walking through their own land. That's what they were, if you're talking about the ones of the shot. Then there are the other ones they've killed.

Op won’t respond, gone into hiding as the thread hasn’t gone the way she wants. We are still getting over the recent attack in Manchester and OP wants more violence on our streets from a well known instigator. Honestly OP pull the thread it’s embarrassing.

Don’t macabi fans have a reputation for being vile and violent? Probably for the best to keep everyone safe.

Yes they do

We’re talking Israeli fans here. Do they behave like thugs, go drinking and look for fights? I’m reading it that it’s actually the Israelis that Villa are trying to protect here, not Muslims. After all, it’s the pro-Palestinians who do their marches every week, waving their flags, shouting abuse towards Jews. I’ve yet to see the Jews here, who live amongst us peacefully, threatening and intimidating the Muslims on our streets.

Well somebody did say, you don’t make peace with your enemies.

Suggesting that Hamas didn’t start and then extend the war by its illegal retention of illegally taken hostages is living in their a world of pure imagination.

Macabi fans behave like thugs, hooligans and absolutely go looking for fights. Everytime they’re in town it will be trashed and they actively go around inciting violence. Three people have posted an article on this thread. I hope others follow through with the ban too.

A very easy thing for him to say. He won’t be anywhere near Aston that day (if he’s ever been at all), he won’t be trying to live and work in the area and won’t be going to the match.

But they weren’t. They approached the Military making threats, when they had been warned not to.

Custardcream84 · 16/10/2025 21:24

This is why people find pro Israelis abominable. They just want to wash their hands and forget and act like nothing happened but we will never forget. The world is disgusted and the tide has turned. You don’t get to forget you committed a genocide.

If there was a genocide who are Hamas shooting in the streets? Why don’t those extra judicial shootings bother you?

ColadhSamh · 16/10/2025 21:46

SunnySideDeepDown · 16/10/2025 21:08

Good decision in YOUR opinion. Not in mine. In my opinion, it’s discriminatory.

The arrogance and dumbing down in your responses is breathtaking. You have been repeatedly told why the fans have been banned yet continue to argue against the banning.
The only conclusion that can be deduced from your responses is that you fully support the violent racist thugs who terrorise communities when they travel to away matched. They have a long standing and well deserved reputation.

HashtagSadTimes · 16/10/2025 21:48

SunnySideDeepDown · 16/10/2025 20:36

Quite.

Will they extend this safety control method to ban women from the streets at night as we know it’s not safe?

Im honestly shocked.

No you’re not.

Were Maccabees fans in any way responsible for starting riots last year in Amsterdam by chanting disgusting anti Palestinian chants for the purpose of offending as many Muslims as possible?

You seem to be saying that they should be given free rein to chant, be as inflammatory as they wish, and then get all huffy and offended when the police say Actually We can’t keep you safe in those circumstances?

Have you completely lost all grip on reality?
Do you actually understand what it is those fans want to do?

Livelovebehappy · 16/10/2025 21:50

BluntPlumHam · 16/10/2025 21:42

But they’re not being banned for causing trouble generally at football matches. They’re being banned because of tensions relating to the Israeli/Palestinian situation. I think probably their attendance at the match will invite a pro Palestinian march near the ground - highly likely with them carrying out a march in Manchester on the same day as the recent terrorist attack. They have no self awareness.

Livelovebehappy · 16/10/2025 21:53

pretty similar to what happens at pro Palestine marches in London each Saturday then…the Jews have had pretty much similar chants and abuse thrown at them..

Custardcream84 · 16/10/2025 21:54

KTheGrey · 16/10/2025 21:45

Do you need to go back to primary school? What do you mean if there was a genocide who are they shooting in the streets? How does one preclude the other? Israel’s genocide on Palestinians is independent of what Hamas do or don’t do. The actions of one group don’t justify exterminating another

MissMarplesNiece · 16/10/2025 21:54

I'm glad their fans have been banned. They are well known to be violent thugs and cause mayhem wherever they travel - even in Israel itself. They pride themselves on this reputation. They are not welcome in my city.

Craftysue · 16/10/2025 21:55

It's nothing to do with Aston Villa. The safety advisory group have said no to away fans because of their appalling behaviour on previous away visits
Jewish, Moslem and all other home fans are all welcome to attend.

@Livelovebehappy from the reports linked on this thread, this particular team’s fans are very violent, and have attacked local Muslims in the past. I imagine the decision was made based on the fact that in that area, with the fans being violent, and the locals potentially violent too, there would be a high chance of injury to people and damage to property. It seems an eminently sensible decision to me. No one wants a riot surely?

Anonycat · 16/10/2025 21:57

Crossing an invisible line they didn’t know was there.
