Beauty appointment and toilet

I’m sure most people will say I AM being unreasonable here because I’m a grown adult who should be able to hold my bladder but here we go…

I’ve been going to a lady for about 3 years now for beauty services, she normally does my brows, lashes, nails & toes, generally my appointments are 3-3.5 hours. She operates out of her house and must be busy as she always makes out she has lots of clients. Anyway; today was my first appointment after having my baby 12 weeks ago so my bladder is not what it used to be after child birth. She made me a coffee as she always does. She did my nails and toes and I said “before you start my brows and lashes can I use your loo please?” She said “no it’s not clean up there I wasn’t expecting anyone to use it”, I didn’t say anything and then let her do my brows, by this point I was getting really desperate and told her I was going to have to nip to a nearby supermarket to use the toilet and come back, she said if I did that she wouldn’t be able to do my lashes due to time but I’d still have to pay for them as that’s what I’d booked. I knew I couldn’t wait so I paid, left without having my lashes done and went to Tesco 5 minutes away. I really like her and I love the way she does my brows but this has got me questioning whether I should go back? I’ve had treatments done at other peoples homes before and they’ve always offered me use of the toilet…

As my dad would say “It’s a basic human right to have access to toilets” 😁 You are not being unreasonable. Sounds like torture to me what should had been a relaxing experience.

Wethers121 · 16/10/2025 06:46

I wouldn’t go back because of stress about needing the toilet. I would have needed to go twice in that appointment time 😂

EmeraldShamrock000 · 16/10/2025 06:49

Terrible service, of course clients will need to use the toilet.
3 hours, is 3 wees to me.

mamagogo1 · 15/10/2025 22:08

If she’s offering back to back appointments of that length then she should expect customers to need the toilet. I would not go back to her as it’s potentially indicative of the house not being clean including the treatment room

That was my immediate thought - alongside this does not sound like a legal business. I suspect some fraud happening here.
I wouldn't go back - she was cruel as well as unprofessional.

MummaMummaMumma · 16/10/2025 06:52

No way would I have paid for the treatment I had not had due to her not allowing me to use the toilet! If she's providing treatments from home, she also has to provide a toilet.

Pricelessadvice · 16/10/2025 06:53

I run a business from home and I let clients use the loo if need be (and they are only doing drop offs and pick ups- my work doesn’t involve them being here for long periods of time).
If someone needs the toilet, I would always help if I could. It’s horrible being desperate and not having access to a loo.

Lurkingandlearning · 16/10/2025 06:54

Twodrunkducks · 15/10/2025 22:01

That’s exactly my thoughts. I always expect anyone who’s in my house to need to use the loo and therefore make sure it’s presentable!

Me too, especially if they are going to be in my home for 3 + hours.

It might have been an excuse because she doesn’t like strangers using her bathroom. But I think that should be one of the “costs” of running a business out of your home.

Maybe it’s a bit irrational but I don’t think I’d want to carry on using her knowing that her bathroom is filthy. I think it says something about her general hygiene if it gets so dirty she doesn’t want anyone to see it.

Whaleandsnail6 · 16/10/2025 06:55

Yanbu. I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't have paid for the lashes

She sounds disorganised and should not be running a business where people will be for a prolonged amount of time without having facilities like a toilet available.

I'd send her a message explaining why I won't be booking again.

CautiousLurker01 · 16/10/2025 07:03

I go to a beauty therapist who practices from home (garden office set up) and she has a loo available there for customers. I’ve never been anywhere where you cannot use the loo. I’m afraid I would give her a scathing review stating what happened and wouldn’t go back. Many women cannot go 4hours without popping to the loo, so she needs to wake up to this.

Coconutter24 · 16/10/2025 07:04

I absolutely would not of paid. Normally I’d agree if you can’t make an appointment with no notice and are a no show then yes completely agree but friend had to leave because she wouldn’t allow her a basic facility! If you’re offering drinks (especially coffee) to people you need to also allow use of a toilet. If that bathroom couldn’t be quickly made to look presentable in 5 minutes I wouldn’t go back anyway it’s probably grubby.

Dollymylove · 16/10/2025 07:12

I wouldnt pay for the lashes and I would be reporting her to the council.

JMSA · 16/10/2025 07:28

She’s a manky cow. It is absolutely 100% unacceptable what she did to you.

Sickleg · 16/10/2025 07:36

Jujujudo · 15/10/2025 23:23

I’d have weed on her sofa

😂😂

user1471538283 · 16/10/2025 07:42

I wouldn't go back. I think of use of the bathroom as a human right. I'm having my home remodelled (and my bathroom isn't the best, it's clean but decades old) and of course anyone working here is very welcome to use the toilet without asking. You were paying for a service!

Needing the loo, especially after having a baby, is so stressful.

CasperGutman · 16/10/2025 07:43

I absolutely know people for whom a quick two-minute tidy absolutely wouldn't be enough to make their bathroom remotely presentable. Surely it can't have come as a surprise to her that clients who are there for several hours might want to use the loo though? YANBU.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 16/10/2025 07:45

Blimey, I have had loads of treatments at the therapist's home and have never been told I can't use the loo. I don't see my clients at home in my work (not beauty or clinical) but the downstairs loo is always visitor-ready!

Bikergran · 16/10/2025 07:50

Twodrunkducks · 15/10/2025 22:01

That’s exactly my thoughts. I always expect anyone who’s in my house to need to use the loo and therefore make sure it’s presentable!

Absolutely. Even if I don't have time to do anything else, I always give the loo a quick once-over before guests arrive!

Azerothi · 16/10/2025 07:52

I know this is unfair but a toilet that was so dirty she couldn't let a paying customer use it would make me question her hygiene practices. Is she using such a dirty toilet? In reality most women just want somewhere to pee and wash hands, it would have to be really filthy for me not to use it. My sanitary pads and tampons wouldn't have likely lasted 3 hours in the time frame 6 months to a year after a baby.

JayJayj · 16/10/2025 07:52

No way could I hold it for that long. My daughter is now 3 and even with exercises it’s definitely weaker.

If I need to go, I need to go.

I also don’t think she should have had to pay for her lashes. It’s not her fault that she has no facilities.

user2848502016 · 16/10/2025 07:59

Most salons have a toilet for customers, that was very poor customer service from her I think, I wouldn’t go back

Wishitsnows · 16/10/2025 08:03

I wouldn’t go back

CremeBruhlee · 16/10/2025 08:08

I would never go back. If she made her leave to go to the loo she shouldn’t have charged her for the service she missed. Or she could have nipped up and quickly tidied round.

I wouldn’t go back at all. That’s so rude and shaming.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 16/10/2025 08:11

I wouldn't go back. I think it's ridiculous to have someone at your house for 3-3.5 hours and not have the loo in a usable state.

dottiedodah · 16/10/2025 08:17

Shes massively out of order here.I think Toilet Visits are part and parcel of beauty treatments TBH. Many women have bladder issues. and "holding on" is not comfortable and is unhealthy. How many customers may be pregnant as well? I would not go back at all

Alwaysinamood · 16/10/2025 08:31

Isn’t there some kind of law about having toilet facilities within a business?! Wouldn’t go back. Also if it’s dirty and unsanitary in her toilet and I can’t imagine her hygiene practice is very sanitary either!
