Beauty appointment and toilet

I’m sure most people will say I AM being unreasonable here because I’m a grown adult who should be able to hold my bladder but here we go…

I’ve been going to a lady for about 3 years now for beauty services, she normally does my brows, lashes, nails & toes, generally my appointments are 3-3.5 hours. She operates out of her house and must be busy as she always makes out she has lots of clients. Anyway; today was my first appointment after having my baby 12 weeks ago so my bladder is not what it used to be after child birth. She made me a coffee as she always does. She did my nails and toes and I said “before you start my brows and lashes can I use your loo please?” She said “no it’s not clean up there I wasn’t expecting anyone to use it”, I didn’t say anything and then let her do my brows, by this point I was getting really desperate and told her I was going to have to nip to a nearby supermarket to use the toilet and come back, she said if I did that she wouldn’t be able to do my lashes due to time but I’d still have to pay for them as that’s what I’d booked. I knew I couldn’t wait so I paid, left without having my lashes done and went to Tesco 5 minutes away. I really like her and I love the way she does my brows but this has got me questioning whether I should go back? I’ve had treatments done at other peoples homes before and they’ve always offered me use of the toilet…

Hi op I would say if they like how brows are done only go for that and find a salon for the rest but ideally the toilet should have been available if it’s a business. Imagine if she did this to all her clients making money for nothing just because she can’t be arsed to clean her toilet.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 15/10/2025 23:12

I find that odd. If I ran a business out of my house I’d make sure the loo was clean in case anyone needed it. I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all.

Catsknowbest · 15/10/2025 23:12

Not unreasonable at all. My stepdaughter runs a home salon, granted she has an adjacent toilet that is convenient for clients rather than going upstairs but had she not she would never refuse someone the use of the loo...!! Especially a paying client.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 15/10/2025 23:15

Take a photo of the newly done brows so you can show how you like them to your next, non-weird beauty therapist.

JDM625 · 15/10/2025 23:17

@ElaineBurdock Whilst I appreciate having to use incontinence pads would be awful, your post made me laugh out loud- so much so that I startled the dog who is now giving me evil looks 😂

Rickrolypoly · 15/10/2025 23:19

Jesus did she have a dead body in the bath or something? How weird and unprofessional
If she's offering a service from her home she needs to offer toilet facilities. I wouldn't have paid her for the lashes.

blueshoes · 15/10/2025 23:21

Ghost her

TappyGilmore · 15/10/2025 23:21

YANBU. If she is booking appointments that take as long as three hours, then she should be expecting that clients may need to use basic facilities like a toilet. I would stop going there and would find someone who does have amenities available.

Shegotanology · 15/10/2025 23:22

I wouldn't let anyone near my brows if they had a filthy toilet.

CherrieTomaties · 15/10/2025 23:22

You’ve got to a be grade A cunt to not let a loyal and paying client use your toilet during a 3 hour appointment.

If I was your friend, I would no longer be booking my treatments with this woman.

Jujujudo · 15/10/2025 23:23

I’d have weed on her sofa

Sickleg · 15/10/2025 23:26

Wonder what she’d have done if you just sat there and wet yourself

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 15/10/2025 23:30

How can she expect people to have appointments of 3.5 hours and not offer them toilet facilities?

I wouldn’t even have lasted one appointment and I certainly wouldn’t return.

MsTamborineMan · 15/10/2025 23:36

I wouldn't go back for several reasons. Not letting you use the toilet to the point that a customer has to leave the appointment, and then making you pay for the treagmentd that you couldn't complete because she wouldn't let you use her loo?!

Also if her toilet is that filthy how bad are her hygeine standards generally? I wouldn't be trusting her to clean equipment properly if she can't make sure her toilet is clean for cutomers.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 15/10/2025 23:37

This is reminiscent of some of the worst lockdown rules, visiting mum at her care home in a special visiting room but no toilet facilities or people putting buckets in their sheds as visitors weren’t allowed into their houses !

SixtySomething · 15/10/2025 23:37

SomeOtherUser · 15/10/2025 22:01

I think she was extremely ungracious on both counts. How messy could it have been up there?!

So she didn't want anyone prying around, did she?

Irritatedandsad · 15/10/2025 23:39

Well maybe it was a right state and she was embarressed. I would mesaage her and say that if you come again you will need access to the toilet due to post partum issues and ask if thats possible but if not then no hard feelings but you will need to go somewhere else for your treatments until you recover fully (which could be a while)

No5ChalksRoad · 15/10/2025 23:40

I do think people should plan ahead and adjust their intake, but any appointment over 60 minutes, a loo should be provided.

Even if I just have tradesmen coming to work, or a friend stopping by with a pickup or dropoff of something we are exchanging, I get up early if necessary and give the entire bathroom a scrubdown. Perhaps not the shower but certainly any fixture they might encounter.

She needs to find time to keep her loo spotless. I wouldn't return. There is no shortage of service providers.

Truetoself · 15/10/2025 23:43

The therapist is being completely unreasonable!!!

AngelsandAliens · 15/10/2025 23:43

I wouldn’t be going back , unacceptable on her part , she should be able to let her clients use the toilet and then she made you pay (but ultimately it was her fault ) is an absolute cheek!
I think genuinely also think you should tell her this .

MumWifeOther · 15/10/2025 23:44

I really dislike the thought of letting people besides my family use our toilet.. however, I’m not ridiculous enough to think incoidk
operate a business from my home and not have toilet facilities for my customers! Do not go to her again.

Namechangeforbabynames · 15/10/2025 23:51

Oh goodness. I’m also 12w pp and would definitely be asking to use the toilet on that length of time!

tbh I’d let someone walking past use our loo, when you need to go you need to go.

heavily pregnant I had to knock on the door of an acquaintance as I wasn’t making it home from a walk. Surely it’s common decency?

Hysterectomynext · 16/10/2025 00:02

mamagogo1 · 15/10/2025 22:08

If she’s offering back to back appointments of that length then she should expect customers to need the toilet. I would not go back to her as it’s potentially indicative of the house not being clean including the treatment room

Exactly this. If it’s true then I would not trust the treatment room either. You need a high standard of hygiene in the beauty business. And it’s about making people feel comfortable and cared for so this whole thing isn’t good enough.

Moveoverdarlin · 16/10/2025 00:03

I wouldn’t go back. And I’d probably email her to explain why. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my bladder but I drink quite a lot of tea and water so there is no way I could go three hours without a pee. How messy could her bathroom be? She must have loads of clients that need a wee, I just don’t understand why she didn’t say ‘Give me 5 mins to give it a quick once over.’

I would be inclined to email something along the lines of…

Hi Gemma

Thanks for today, as usual I’m delighted with my brows and lashes. I wanted to email as I have to say I was quite disappointed with how the appointment ended. I really wanted to get my nails done too and was pretty miffed that I ended up paying for them, but due to needing the toilet couldn’t actually have them done. Was your bathroom really in that much of a state that I couldn’t use it? The appointment was 3.5 hours long, of course I would need to use the loo at some point, don’t many of your female clients? I would have thought it was part and parcel of running a business from your home that your toilet facilities were useable. I love coming to you, you do a great job, but this has left a sour taste I have to say, so I won’t be coming again. Since having the baby, beauty treatments are my ‘me time’, a few hours to unwind and pamper myself - I don’t want to be rushing off the the grotty bogs in Tesco should I need to spend a penny.

Katherine.

Fiddlesticks357 · 16/10/2025 00:04

This isn't acceptable, maybe even not allowed? She should have some sort of license perhaps from your local council if shes offering paid for services at home, that could cover you as it may state that a toilet should be provided? Tbh though ive have just told her I didnt care about the mess and that I was desperate and sorry but i need to use it as im post partum and could have an accident if not (currently through the same myself!) and just see what she said then. 100% wouldn't go back and it's not right she refused your very basic human request in your circumstances, shows no customer care or respect so why give her your money.
