Beauty appointment and toilet

I’m sure most people will say I AM being unreasonable here because I’m a grown adult who should be able to hold my bladder but here we go…

I’ve been going to a lady for about 3 years now for beauty services, she normally does my brows, lashes, nails & toes, generally my appointments are 3-3.5 hours. She operates out of her house and must be busy as she always makes out she has lots of clients. Anyway; today was my first appointment after having my baby 12 weeks ago so my bladder is not what it used to be after child birth. She made me a coffee as she always does. She did my nails and toes and I said “before you start my brows and lashes can I use your loo please?” She said “no it’s not clean up there I wasn’t expecting anyone to use it”, I didn’t say anything and then let her do my brows, by this point I was getting really desperate and told her I was going to have to nip to a nearby supermarket to use the toilet and come back, she said if I did that she wouldn’t be able to do my lashes due to time but I’d still have to pay for them as that’s what I’d booked. I knew I couldn’t wait so I paid, left without having my lashes done and went to Tesco 5 minutes away. I really like her and I love the way she does my brows but this has got me questioning whether I should go back? I’ve had treatments done at other peoples homes before and they’ve always offered me use of the toilet…

posting for a friend who doesn’t have mumsnet

Yeah that’s crap customer service.

Id also be thinking how manky is her toilet that she doesn’t want you to see it 🤢

gamerchick · 15/10/2025 22:12

She sacrificed a customer, it must have been bad.

I wouldn't go back.

gamerchick · 15/10/2025 22:13

Tbf the lady was probably a mumsnetter. Nobody seems to like anyone using their bog on here.

ShenandoahRiver · 15/10/2025 22:14

Off topic I know but does the woman have insurance?

blankcanvas3 · 15/10/2025 22:16

Definitely don’t go back

PashaMinaMio · 15/10/2025 22:17

Should she be a licensed practitioner?
If so, ask local council if she is?

If so it might be part of the licence agreement that toilet facilities must be provided.

If not you might want to find an alternative practitioner. Being licensed might also mean she needs public liability insurance in case she caused you some kind of harm carrying out a treatment.

It all seems a bit dodgy and non-conformist. I’d go elsewhere next time.

Zov · 15/10/2025 22:17

As has been said, I would never go there again. 3.5 hours with nowhere to go for a wee is ridiculous. Even if you're not pregnant/have recently had a baby, you need to go sometimes within an hour or two of going last!!!

@Twodrunkducks Find somewhere else. She sounds very unprofessional and a bit rude.

Whereismyfleeceblanket · 15/10/2025 22:19

If she is a legit business then leave an honest review..
If she isn't then stop going.
Simple imo.

Shlimp · 15/10/2025 22:20

YANBU. Ridiculous. With a bladder the size of a walnut I'd have needed the toilet at least twice in 3.5 hours, especially after coffee!

JDM625 · 15/10/2025 22:22

TBH- by her reaction, I'd really be questioning that she has many/any other clients! Surely your friend isn't the first/only client to ever ask to use the loo!

How horrendous could it be that she couldn't have given the bowl a clean, flushed and maybe picked up a towel or 2? Maybe she has a body in the bath 🤔

Personally, I would find it incredibly rude of her to expect FULL payment for a treatment not provided, due to HER lack of facilities. IF your friend really loves her treatments, I'd message asking if it was a one off or the toilet is always banned for clients? Depending on her reply would determine if I'd find somewhere else.

BallerinaRadio · 15/10/2025 22:22

Is it an insurance thing? She's only covered for the areas for the services she provides and if something happened anywhere else in the house she wouldn't be covered?

anon199900 · 15/10/2025 22:23

How can someone’s toilet be that dirty that someone else can’t use it? Is the rest of her house dirty / messy?

ValenciaOrange · 15/10/2025 22:23

Also if her bathroom is so dirty she can't let a client use it I'd be worried about her hygiene standards in general and not want her doing my lashes etc.

mrsschneebly · 15/10/2025 22:23

Really out of order of her imo. That’s a long time to be there and if you are offering a service like this then I’m fairly sure you have to provide facilities.

I wouldn’t be going back.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 15/10/2025 22:24

Personally.... i would never give this woman my business again.

TeaRoseTallulah · 15/10/2025 22:27

How filthy could it possibly be?!

She needs to provide a loo for clients,it's ridiculous not to.

ShenandoahRiver · 15/10/2025 22:28

How much does she charge for each service?

viques · 15/10/2025 22:28

ValenciaOrange · 15/10/2025 22:02

If she's running her business from home then she should expect people may need the bathroom and make sure its clean ! It was a perfectly reasonable request you made.

Especially if she is also offering them coffee!

GAJLY · 15/10/2025 22:29

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 15/10/2025 22:02

If she's offering appointments to the public then she needs to be offering a toilet. I've got pretty good bladder control but I couldn't go that length of time without a wee.

Id find a professional salon for future treatments

Agree with this 👆
She's offering a service, a toilet should be accessible. I go to the salon for around 3.5 hours and I usually use their toilet twice! I don't think that's fair of her at all. Why couldn't she have quickly flushed the toilet before you used it?! I wouldn't go back to her again.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 15/10/2025 22:29

What a bitch! And quite weird. How bad can one’s bathroom be?? Something weird going on here

DiscoBob · 15/10/2025 22:30

It's pretty gross she said that about her toilet. Her services are meant to be hygienic, almost clinical ideally. So the notion she regularly has an appalling messy toilet isn't a great vibe.

And she should of course assume that a client could need to use it so if she has a client, toilet should be usable. I guess it's not a massive deal really but if be somewhat put off.

Irenesortof · 15/10/2025 22:31

If someone comes to your house for several hours you have to let them use the toilet. 'It's not clean up there' - good grief, how bad could it be? You wouldn't have minded it not being pristine.

reversingdumptruckwithnotyreson · 15/10/2025 22:31

I wouldn’t go back because not only was she unreasonable, it would make me question the cleanliness of her practice.

And if you’re not afraid of a bit of potential back and forth, I’d leave a public review as a general point to consider before booking.

2chocolateoranges · 15/10/2025 22:34

I wouldn’t have paid for the lashes and I wouldn’t be returning to her either.

how ridiculous when someone is paying that sort of money for all those treatments and that’s how she dealt with it. Poor Customer service.

NewHat · 15/10/2025 22:34

She’s mad offering people drinks then not letting them go to her toilet. Making you pay is ridiculous.

She shouldn’t work out of her home and give people three hour appointments if she can’t provide a toilet.
