To now be increasingly concerned about illegal boat arrivals

1000 replies

CalmShaker · 14/10/2025 21:33

I've kept a level head with boat crossing arrivals but recently I've become concerned that there are some really unpleasant people being let in. This story was hard to watch on the news this evening;

Asylum seeker 'murdered hotel worker Rhiannon Whyte in frenzied attack' - BBC News https://share.google/qxzed2MD19TYPKasQ

I welcome genuine asylum but I don't believe that is what is happening anymore.
The story immediately before the above on national news this evening was the migrant who had threatened Nigel Farrage. I know Nigel is not the most popular of people but the migrant was horrid, clearly dangerous and not safe to be on our streets.
Financial cost and all other factors aside, it's the safety aspect that worry me most.

that’s stopped working, sorry.

This issue is just going to be another massive Rotherham where everyone happily flinging around the ‘bigot’ label and cheering on the intimidation of women and girls will be forced to confront their treachery one day.

Bigpinksweater · 14/10/2025 21:47

Why let in even more men from even higher risk countries if we can’t deal with our misogyny as it is?

My point was that if everyone spent as much energy being worried about domestic abuse as they are being worried about asylum seekers we might actually tackle some part of the problem. And save a lot more lives in the process.

Fionaville · 14/10/2025 22:01

We're in a small northern town. A few years ago my kids could happily play in the park with no problems. Now there are usually groups of men hanging round the park, watching them. Some of these men are taking photos of the kids and I've had to challenge them. So now I can't let my tween daughter go the park with her friends, without me there. I don't take much notice of what's on the news or stories on social media. I care about what's happening on my own doorstep. I'm sick of people trying to tell us that these concerns are wrong!

This is so pathetic I can’t even be bothered to type a proper reply

Obviously you’re right but they don’t care. They’re in leafy areas with safe children.

It won’t always be that way.

So basically you have no actual counter argument.

Reallynotsure25 · 14/10/2025 22:03

Bigpinksweater · 14/10/2025 21:50

Nearly 200,000 and counting in the last few years alone. Where do you think we will end up? It’s not stopping.

So you don’t have any data to back up your claim, as expected .Do your research. In the year to June about 110k asylum claims were made. The total for 2004-2020 was less than half a million. During Covid those claiming asylum was even less. So overall we haven’t even reached a million yet. Why are you claiming we have millions of asylum seekers? By the way these are overall asylum seekers, those people arriving on so called small boats is an even smaller number than this

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 14/10/2025 22:03

Bigpinksweater · 14/10/2025 21:58

like the spies and murderer I just linked to?

They do get checked. I was listening to some young lawyer on radio 4 the other day who was working with their client, regarding one of the "one in, one out" flights and she explained it all. My eyes rolled so hard when she was furiously defending why this illegal immigrant shouldn't be on the plane and it was because the government hadn't taken the time to fully background check the individual like they should be. Anyway, they contact the other countries and verify the people and do security checks.
But I agree, I'm sure it is very loose and open to fraud/lies etc etc.
To be clear: I don't want them coming here!

Eyesopenwideawake · 14/10/2025 22:04

CalmShaker · 14/10/2025 21:41

That seems to be the standard response but I'm finding that hard to continually accept.
What is the purpose of having background checks, rules, criminal history if someone can just bypass that and enter via boat. We are then told, it's fine statistically nothing will happen. But it is happening.

What background checks have been done on the man who lives two roads away from you and who gives you the creeps?

What background checks have been done on the man who drinks too much at lunchtime and pisses in the park bushes?

What background checks have been done on the man who stares at your tits on the bus?

What background checks have been done on you?

And then their families come over, up to 8 people. You are so naive.

NebulousWhistler · 14/10/2025 22:05

The men on those boats (and it’s always men) are not asylum seekers, they’re economic migrants. Genuine asylum seekers would seek it in France.

poetryandwine · 14/10/2025 22:05

Grindingpoverty · 14/10/2025 21:48

Of course you're right to be worried. People coming via legal routes have background checks for very good reasons. We don't just do them for fun. Alongside the many genuine asylum seekers, there will be plenty of people running away from a criminal record or other problems of that sort.

When you have this volume of people coming with no checks at all, of course it will cause problems. I'm very in favour of helping asylum seekers in principle, but a lot of people seem really naive about the degree of badness in the world and assume that every single one is genuine. To be honest it's a luxury belief many of us can't afford.

What ‘volume of people [are] coming with no checks at all’?

You certainly cannot get asylum that way

Mumsnet is so good with misogyny issues usually but so wilfully blind on this issue. I really resent the Aunt Lydias on this topic.

Ffs have you seen Sweden? Germany? Those women mass sexually assaulted themselves did they?

Hush now.
You’re just being bigoted, racist, xenophobic, privileged.
Have I missed anything out to attempt to get you to shut up and look the other way.

SeaAndStars · 14/10/2025 22:06

Bigpinksweater · 14/10/2025 21:41

I’m really worried too.

This country is completely overcrowded to the degree our wildlife is dying and our flood risk is going up, and we have 1,000 people a day arriving who will no doubt apply to bring family etc

Most from countries where women are inferior - those beliefs don’t magically disappear as they cross the channel

It’s utter madness

Wildlife in the UK is under threat because of habitat loss from intensive agriculture, climate change, pollution (e.g. greedy water companies flushing shit into our rivers and seas) and unsustainable fishing.

Our flood risk is increasing due to a combination of climate change, which causes heavier rainfall and rising sea levels, inadequate drainage systems

Both are impacted by urban development but this is not the main cause.

Poetnojo · 14/10/2025 22:07

Reallynotsure25 · 14/10/2025 21:43

With all the stuff we’ve got going on at the moment asylum seekers are the least of our problems. Unfortunately you and many like you are being fed a diet of horror stories about them by individuals, groups and people with a vested interest. Look at your algorithm, question everything you are being fed and switch off every now and then.

Ah, you mean turn a blind eye to the horrors we are seeing? No thanks!

poetryandwine · 14/10/2025 22:05

Well one of them made a TikTok video saying he would kill Farage. Doesn’t matter what you think of Farage - one of them actively said they would murder a British citizen and it was only found as somebody sent it to Farage. Otherwise I’m sure he would’ve had his asylum granted (and probably still will)

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 14/10/2025 22:08

Libertylawn · 14/10/2025 21:46

What’s madness is the bullshit you’ve chomped. We have a huge massive problem with a DECLINING population and yet the oldest live longest and cost the most! We NEED more young people!

Nice deflection there on the topic.

Sigh. Here we go again. Op you’re more likely to be killed by your relative as in brother/husband or son than you are an asylum seeker.

Check the femicide stats from home office.

Oh that's alright then.🙄

Nooshoos123 · 14/10/2025 22:08

The people who arrive on boats make up around 4% of total immigration to this country. There aren’t 1,000 arriving daily. Like any group of people, there will be bad apples among them. The idea that they are “an invasion” and are all sex offenders and murderers is ridiculous.

Our asylum system is broken, run down by Tory governments which awarded lucrative hotel contracts to their cronies, who make a mint from it. Those who seek asylum are left waiting on average 2 years for a decision, are not permitted to work during that time and exist in a pretty grim situation. They are not living it up in luxury hotels with free iPads etc.

Perhaps the focus should be on improving the processing system, looking at who is profiting from the hotels, and recognising that ‘the boats’ became an issue as a direct consequence of Brexit, which took us out of the Dublin Agreement. Brexit, sold to the country by Farage, who is now saying he will solve the very problem he had a big hand in creating in the first place.

Realistically they can't background check these people. How do you do that when they arrive with no paperwork?

I don’t think this is possible.

What population is too high here? 100 million? 150 million? Are we just to keep going until we become a city state?

We are 8th for population density in Europe after states like Vatican City and Jersey. And that’s with the Highlands swaying the figure.

If you think we’re not far too overcrowded already you’re deluding yourself
