To ask how much you think I weigh?

I’m genuinely just curious. My hairdresser said she thought I’m a good 2-3 stone lighter than I actually am, so it got me thinking!

OP, if you've lost that much weight, I would imagine you've got a fair amount of excess skin, which must add a lot to your weight without adding as much bulk as fat would.

Losing ten stone is absolutely amazing for your health though - a huge well done to you for safeguarding your future in this way.

Plus you’re likely to have solid bones as a result of the weight - obese people don’t get osteoporosis generally.

nellietheellie75 · 12/10/2025 14:39

16st?

Autumn38 · 12/10/2025 14:41

I’d say 13 stone. I was 11 and a half stone and a size 14 which I’m guessing your a bit bigger than?

Of course I understand. I’m not an imbecile. What’s ridiculous about that range is that it’s basically too low. I have small bones and would look like a walking skeleton at anything less than 9st.

It's not too low at all. I'm roughly the same height.

I've never weighed more than 8st 4 and that was when I was 9 months pregnant with a healthy child who weighed 7st 7lbs.

I look nothing like a skeleton.

The range is not ridiculous.

I’m 162cm (I think!), haven’t ever been measured properly

That’s very untrue, obese people are at risk of osteoporosis due to metabolic issues, poor vitamin absorption , poor glucose tolerance etc, it’s at a lowe rate than those not obese but very wrong to say we don’t get it. We do. A lot.

Praying4Peace · 12/10/2025 14:46

I think people just can’t imagine what they’d look like. No woman looks like a walking skeleton at 9st unless very tall.

Rose213 · 12/10/2025 14:51

I mean you are wearing the baggiest clothes so doesn't make it easy. I would say close to 16 stone.

Lazygardener · 12/10/2025 14:57

Other peoples' perception of you will of course vary. Sometimes people are being polite, sometimes they are bad at guessing, Often they are expressing their own insecurities. Having lost a lot of weight over the last year, I have got used to people who want to ask what I used to weigh, and what I weigh now, but don't like to actually ask. They will say things like 'I didn't think you were that big to start with' or 'surely you don't need to lose any more weight' etc. Your hairdresser might be angling for you to tell her what you weigh. You must know what you weigh (and if not, a set of scales is pretty cheap). The only real question is, are you happy with that, or not.

13 stone 5

Jeschara · 12/10/2025 15:01

13 Stone 7. I think you look bigger in the second photo, si judged it on that.

I’m 15 stone 8!!!

really shocked by all the low guesses, but I’m guessing I carry it quite well!

I'm 15.3 and 163 cm and look like you. We carry it round our middle and thighs. It's hard

Bellyblueboy · 12/10/2025 15:19

16 stone

Chawklit · 12/10/2025 15:26

I am the same height at 8st so thinking you are about 12stone …

FunMustard · 12/10/2025 15:33

I would have said about 14 stone @ThatLadyLady, I've also been losing weight at 164cm and am now down to about 12 stone 7ish, so I'm comparing to myself. Not to put a downer on it, just my personal opinion and experience - I think when you've previously been really big (as I was) and then you're smaller, people find it much harder to gauge weight. I was about 17 stone before, I double people would have thought I was that heavy (heavier than my taller, and fatter husband) so they would probably gauge me now at lighter than I am. Which is only just into Overweight BMI rather than Obese.

Absolutely killing it though! Congratulations and keep on keeping on :)

As someone who's had a lot of weight fluctuations over the years, I think that when you're into the obese category you're just a generic fat person to most observers. It doesn't really matter whether you're 13 or 20 stone, most people just register you as pretty fat and don't notice the fine grading that you become preoccupied with as you try to move down the chart. So people aren't really used to trying to guess variations on the scale, they just see very large and guesses are a bit random. Often they're too low, because either they can't conceive of anyone being that large or because they don't want to offend. The differences are much more noticeable and relatable when you get into the overweight category and keep moving down towards normal.

10 stone loss is amazing, OP. Don't rule out being a normal weight, however unrealistic it feels. Keep going and aim for the top end of healthy and see how you feel when you get there. Thinking it isn't possible for you is one of the things that makes us give up, I think. You start telling yourself it's not realistic, you carry it well, you don't want to look gaunt etc, then it legitimises the familiar comfort of giving up again.

I wish I could frame this comment on my wall for myself. As someone who has also had my weight go up and down over the years.

ThatLadyLady · 12/10/2025 15:39

I may have to get some new scales if everyone thinks that's wrong!

I'm just really interested because I look at my body and see it the same as it was a year ago. It's sometimes a wakeup call to have others input!

Anxietybummer · 12/10/2025 15:47

I would have said around 16 stone. My best friend is 14 stone and looks a good bit smaller. I think sometimes it’s really tricky to guess weight thats not close to your own. Big or small. If you ask people closer to your own size (not much bigger or smaller) you’d probably find the guesses are a lot more accurate.

Calamitousness · 12/10/2025 15:52

You look great. Certainly not obese. Well done you. Don’t worry about the charts. Stop at a weight that suits you and your life. I’m nearly 60 so not going to be the weight I was at 20 and that’s ok. I’ll have about an extra stone on. Maybe less if I decide to diet after Xmas.
