Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

Free school meals, cleaner air, transport improvements like the superloop (a bloody god send)

NeedAnyHelpWithThatPaperBag · 08/10/2025 19:28

Two bus journeys within an hour, only charged for one.

NinaGeiger · 08/10/2025 19:29

There was an ongoing TFL strike before he started as Mayor which he resolved straight away.

What is the source of those videos, OP? And what agenda do you think the maker of them might have?

MissKitty0 · 08/10/2025 19:31

A lot of the crime in London is due to migration, which Khan doesn’t control. If anything it’s more the Tories fault we’ve had a surge of crime after their 14 years of mass migration.

NebulousWhistler · 08/10/2025 19:32

I can’t stand him but he’s planning on pedestrianising Oxford St which I think is great.

Whatafustercluck · 08/10/2025 19:32

I don't know much about what he's done, but he must be very popular, and have done quite a lot of good things, to be elected three times surely?

bookworm14 · 08/10/2025 19:32

You might want to ask yourself, OP, why there are so many videos about how awful he is from people who don’t even live in London. What is it about him specifically that makes them so angry?

bookworm14 · 08/10/2025 19:33

And violent crime in London is falling, and has been for years.

Thortour · 08/10/2025 19:34

ULEZ
Superloop Buses
Baker Loop

Extention of the ULEZ

I campaigned with him during the 2015 General Election when he was MP for Tooting. I lived in a neighbouring constituency and he regularly came over to help canvass on behalf of our candidate. I know him as a very likeable, energetic, public-serving Londoner. He’s always been relentlessly positive about London as the greatest city in the world and I think he’s been a fantastic mayor and champion. I like him a lot.

Strictlycomeparent · 08/10/2025 19:34

Universal free school meals for primary school children- saved me an absolute fortune and so much saved time too. As a working mum I’m very grateful.

Aliceisagooddog · 08/10/2025 19:35

Don't swallow the racist crap people post about SK. He has actually helped ordinary Londoners, including free school meals and cheaper travel.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/10/2025 19:36

He’s bloody brilliant ^^ all of the above and massively improved air quality where I am

yes we all hate low traffic neighbourhoods but tough fucking shit, we have to suck it up or literally die

Bambamhoohoo · 08/10/2025 19:36

I mean, I know the hate around him is racism but I find the narrative baffling.

what did Ken Livingston do? What Boris Johnson do? What do people actually expect mayors to do??

londoners like him a lot- but we do tend to be less racist than the rest of the country

LaurieFairyCake · 08/10/2025 19:36

Love my superloop so much !

Thortour · 08/10/2025 19:37

Boris wasted £40 million on a bridge that never happened.
He gave £250,000 to his mistress which was ‘loans’ for her business

There are numerous RMT strikes planned this year....

Lol what's that got to do with a mayor??

bookworm14 · 08/10/2025 19:38

The RMT will strike regardless of who is mayor.

corlan · 08/10/2025 19:38

Implementing congestion zones was a very bold move. So many people were furious about them at first but they're here now and we all have cleaner air to breathe. For that alone ,I admire him.

This plus council house building, more affordable housing, investment for young people, better walking and cycling provision. Ulez was a really brave stand to tackle air pollution despite so much opposition. I love Sadiq and was so happy that the vocal minority who have it in for him didn’t sway the last election.

Sexentric · 08/10/2025 19:40

Yep cleaner air tanks to Upez, all primary kids getting free school.meala and superloop. I think he's done great things for Londoners. I'd happily have him for another term

Thortour · 08/10/2025 19:40

He is brave and honest. He pushed through the ULEZ and has had the most appalling attacks and abuse.
