Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

He is certainly not a catastrophe of a man by any means. His predecessor definitely was though.
And he has suffered from racism and islamaphobia.
A few things he has introduced since becoming Mayor of London
Free school meals for all state primary school pupils
Council homebuilding under is at a higher level than at any time since the 1970s.
Record sums have been invested in youth clubs and services for young people , including a mentorship programme for young people in need
Transport improvements including the night tube and the Elizabeth line
Much cleaner air
And there is a lot more

This. I can tell the difference in the air I breathe. I no longer have such frequent asthma attacks and chest infections, I don’t smell the levels of pollution when walking along busy roads, I no longer have to clean my windows every week. This is the single most important thing for everyone who lives in London.

And is crime increasing? London is a really safe city overall. But really OP if you're not a Londoner why do you even care? I think he's great

Hate the guy but love the post pandemic bike lane transformation and ulez. Positive on pre traffic neighbourhoods too.

He’s brilliant and very effective at implementing change. Cleaner air, free school meals, lower crime etc etc etc. You’re most likely watching right wing content producers dubious videos.

He sacked the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police because of the attacks on women by Police Officers specifically David Carrick.

He is ok charge of the police budget yet had closed several police stations.

All the things here. He’s fantastic, and I can’t believe he bothers in the face of the regular racist threats on his life, I wouldn’t if I was him.

Ive read that crime in London is down overall. There are some specific crimes (phone theft and shoplifting) that are up.

I have seen no serious reports blaming an increase in crime on migration.

Ive no first or second hand experience of being a victim or witness of crime.

I have lived in London for most of my 63 years, 25 years of which in Newham which is one of the less affluent parts of our noisy metropolis.

I suspect that the idea that crime is rising and migration is to blame (for this and many other things) are ideas spread by people who ideologically opposed left or centre left politics. Some of thiae people live in St Petersburg

They sold the buildings to fund the shortfall of central funding.
He increased police numbers which were cut by Johnson.

Yep one of my favourites along with pollution control. Which affects so many of the poorer populations.
Half the stuff he's blamed for on social media he doesn't actually control ! I mean he doesn't control housing stock provision for homeless for starters !

The police station which closed near me was a very old inefficient building. They didn’t have enough parking for the police cars and vans. So they moved to a larger plot. It was cheaper and more efficient.
