... and how Jews are not protected in this country.

One of the problems is that anti-semitism is now 'trendy' for idiots who don't understand the political situation at all and obviously don't really care about civilian war casualties nor other human beings in general as they don't mention the greater number of these - including children - elsewhere in the world. It's a trendy cause and a bandwagon to jump on.

I was at Reading festival and mostly it was great but the lead singer (I presume) of Enter shikari went on an anti-Israeli rant which I could hear even though I wasn't even at that stage. Totally ill informed. No-one able to counter his piss poor 'takes' - using his paid for platform to make any Jewish people there feel unsafe. Any Jewish teenager who paid the high entrance fee would have felt unsafe in that crowd after that I'm sure. Completely inappropriate and yet no consequence for it. I was so angry he was allowed to stir up anti-semitic hatred in this ill informed and inappropriate way and I'm not even Jewish.

I don't think you should be calling people 'morons' when you can't even spell and are trying to contradict the UN and the ICJ.

And this isn't the thread for your virulent hatred.

Oh look at you! Well done you've found an spelling error!
Congratulations!
Fantastic work!

Do you have a post office box or something that I could send a badge to?

I have no issue contradicting the UN when it is so closely linked to Hamas, so I'm afraid you don't have me on that one. Spelling though, definitely.

I think it’s the responsibility of Jewish people to call out Israel actually it’s not something you can stay silent on it’s gone past that. Silence is edging towards complicity now.

No it isn't. All Jews are not complicit in the actions of the Israeli Government. Place the blame where it belongs. You are in danger of treating all Jews as one monolithic Jew, just as the Christian Church did in history when prejudice, torture and expulsion were justified because of the belief that the Jews were responsible for the death of Christ. The Nazis did that too.

The same argument applies to calls for Moslems to condemn terrorist attacks, fundamentalist groups and Governments. Placing the onus on groups is stereotyping. It also doesn't recognise that within religions there are many shades of belief and practice. Would you expect the same of all Christians after the Iraq Wars or all Buddhists in Myanmar? It isn't the responsibility of all Jews to be accountable for the atrocities committed by Israeli state anymore than it was for all British people for the UK Government's decision to prosecute a war in Iraq. The blame lies with those that prosecuted the violence.

There are loads of spag errors in your post, actually. I don’t usually care but it was funny when you’re calling everyone else fucking morons.

And when your arguments consist of calling anyone you disagree with fucking idiots or terrorists then you can’t be taken seriously.

I don't truly mind what you call it. What is happening in Gaza is appalling. A huge and very wealthy nation with massive international backers destroying an area of the world a handful of miles wide.

History will tell us what to call it.
It would be great to get some independent observers into Gaza to tell us, but Israel won't let them in.
So we can wait to find out.
Which is more than the people in Gaza can do.

I’m all for religious education to be dropped and for it to be taught in the historical context in a critical way. Not as a belief system that should be respected but one that is open to criticism and study.

However, I do think it is really important in the UK to understand (and note understand not believe or even think it should be blindly respected) Christianity due to many of institutions, history, art, literature and laws being entwined with Christianity. There is no need to understand any other religion to that extent in this country. If people want to practice a faith it’s up to them, but it should have zero implications for me. I don’t want it in the workplace, I don’t want it in the media, I don’t want it in schools apart from as an academic subject, focusing on critical analysis.

Schools (including private schools) should not be able to be faith based. We live in a secular society based on Christian values and traditions, we are culturally Christian. That position should be the guiding principle in public and academic life. even separating burial grounds is divisive.

People should respect other people, but I don’t need to respect any religion that I think is a load of made up bollocks.

Are you really sure we shouldn't show any other religion in the media? What does that entail : TV & papers? Film and TV?

Personally I like coverage of different religions. The BBC Heart & Soul program does this & I think it's very good. It's important also to be aware of different issues communities could be facing.

Obvs it shouldn't be excessive, but none seems a bit harsh & stifling.

Agreed. One of my neighbours has just created a WhatsApp group for our cul de sac neighbourhood. The speed with which people started engaging with each other was great. Some people who hadn't said a word to each other before.

That's good. Neighbourly engagement must improve.

They didn't say 'everyone is scared.' They said, 'Jewish people are scared.'

Surely they were talking in this manner because of the context of a terrorist attack against jewish people yesterday?

But Muslim people are scared, Sikh people are scared. Christian people are scared. I could go on. I won't assume it is just one group that is scared. Because if I do, it seems like they may be the only target.

Of course most people are scared of terrorist attacks, I certainly am. But imo it's inappropriate to centre myself when I wasn't the target yesterday. Hope that helps.

Splendid.

There isn't a gotcha, just an attempt to understand. You said 3 schools had deliberately scheduled open days on Yom Kippur, and I shared a link showing that the open days have been scheduled on various days in Sep and Oct.

There are 3 on 9 October, is that a holy day for a religion too? The

You're now attempting to say most of the kids are Albanians, Kosovans, Algerians, Moroccans without evidence. It's completely bizarre.

I am referring to the unchecked culture of hate that has been allowed to continue. This attack should never have happened, and the response time will be little condolence to the families of the deceased.

No hate attacks should happen.
Deepest sympathies for all those affected yesterday.

The attacker was clearly looking for a 'suicide by police' scenario wearing a fake 'bomb' vest... explains why he was shot dead at the door surrounded by cops when a taser or bullet to the legs would have brought him down.

As we have freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protest in this country, that won't be happening. Much as I would have like to have seen the far-right rally in London stopped, even those racist fuckwits have freedom of speech and protest.

I think a ban is counterproductive but people shouting for violence should be in jail.

Correct. We must fight Hamas propaganda. I don't like Netanyahu or agree with most of his decisions. But there is NO genocide.

@PraisebetoGod this post is actually quite rude. I mean you are complaining about a lack of open mindedness using Aquinas' rather judgmental and close minded quote (if it's even translated correctly form the original).

What he said is true though. Muhammad studied under a nestorian monk who introduced him to the nestorian version of Christianity. Islam is OT ideas + NT ideas + Mohammed's spin on it.

MyKhakiPanda · 03/10/2025 14:14

saying there's no genocide is like seeing there was not apartheid. IMHO.

At once stage, I went to school in an army town. I clearly remember that at least once, there was a bomb threat made against the school, apparently by the IRA, which was credible enough for us all to be evacuated from our classrooms to stand around on the tennis courts while the buildings were searched by I think troops, but might have been police.

ETA, this was in England.

Edited

My mum was a 70s child and used to practice bomb drills bc of the IRA. The threat was there

And you did it with baseless accusations and rudeness and sanctimony of your own. That's ok, it's the Internet, but just as I won't take lectures on integration from someone who has to ask if Jews take part in public life, I won't take lectures on #bekind from you.

You seem to have me confused. I didn’t question whether Jews take part in public life. Put your claws away, kitty.
