Sorry, what?

In what way do you think this is appropriate? People were stabbed to death on their holiest day, and you start engaging in whatabouttery?

I wouldn't go to a protest in Manchester today but for the other ones in cities far away I think it's unfair to try to paint they as doing anything other than protest what's happening in Gaza, unless of course they're not doing that or have inappropriate banners etc.

Your post sounds awfully like victim blaming. That is disgusting.

It is so hard to comment on this thread in way that can't be misconstrued. At the core I think is that the Israel/Gaza war is so linked to religious identity, and that religious identity is then connected throughout the world. I think both what Hamas did was evil, but also the Israeli response is so disproportionate that is also evil. But that doesn't mean I think of any Jews or Muslims in the UK in this way. Sadly a very small minority of people don't separate the connection, and you only need one extremist to do something like this.

It is truly horrible when things like this happen.

Don’t be silly. The whole point is that the victims of extremism are innocent. Your post sounds exactly like the sweeping under the carpet that I mentioned. It seems ridiculous to me to lament how awful these attacks are without considering why there is so much hostility around us.

Why are the held on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, and following a terrorist attack? It appears celebrational, which is horrific

By justifying a terrorist attack on a community? You are trying to justify what cannot be justified. Please reflect on that.

LactoseTolerant · 02/10/2025 23:03

Yes, i guess it is very likely that the attack was due to anti semitism and I am pretty sure that antisemitism is increasing.

As an unfortunate side effect I think this attack will also make things worse for all Asians in the uk, give the far right more ammunition ( even though ironically they are mostly anti semitic as well) and it will do absolutely nothing to improve the situation in Gaza.

OneBadKitty · 02/10/2025 23:04

I don't think anti-semitism is on the rise in the UK on the whole.
Today's attack was one ethnic minority attacking another.

As for the argument that Islamaphobia is not more prevelant than ant-semitism based on the premise that there have been no terrorist attacks on mosques or islamic schools, well that's a daft argument seeing as most terrorist attacks in this country are carried out by Islamist extremists.

verybighouseinthecountry · 02/10/2025 23:05

Longingdreamer · 02/10/2025 21:42

What evidence do you have for this?

Mosques and Muslim schools do not require armed guards, and did not experience a horrific terrorist attack today, on the holiest day of the year.

Your post lacks compassion

How do you know? The attacks on mosques and Muslims is a daily occurrence, to the extent a lot of it isn't reported because it's so frequent. Funding is available for security for all places of worship, not all avail of it for various reasons though.

Spookyspaghetti · 02/10/2025 23:06

Longingdreamer · 02/10/2025 21:57

There are plenty of Muslim schools and Mosques. How many terrorist attacks have there been at either of these? You are hugely missing the point, while providing no evidence for your claims.

One. At the Finsbury Park mosque. It’s not a competition though is it. Both communities should be free to worship in peace. The problem is the rise of hatred from all directions and towards all minority communities and towards women.

The rise over the past decades has coincided with the rise of unchecked and unregulated social media. If you have ever tried to report the blatant racism spewed on most of the big platforms you will know that the reports just come back rejected. Presumably the technology used to scan the posts can’t pick up the nuance of discriminatory statements, and a lot of coded language is used to avoid word being flagged. Some people are just scrolling through this all day everyday and can’t see that it doesn’t bear any resemblance to reality. Gaming is even worse. I used to play Call of Duty for a bit and it’s Swastika city. People draw incredibly offensive images for their badges and grown adults can join teams with 11 year olds and chat live with no oversight. Again, if you complain, very little happens.

Even stuff for really young kids like animal crossing on DS, you could travel to rooms made by other users where there are iron crosses everywhere or worse. You can report but if a 7 year old saw that they wouldn’t necessarily understand that what they have seen is a problem which normalises it.

I’m really not trying to justify anything. Maybe you want to be able to put attacks like this down to a simple good verses evil battle because it sits more comfortably, but society will never be safe from this if the causes of the hostility are not addressed. There is no other way to stop it from happening again, to anyone.

Islamic terrorism is the issue, which needs to be addressed. Blaming the Jewish community, or Israel (which is irrelevant in this context) is obfuscation at best, and more likely deliberate racism.

Well this thread proves your point OP.

itsraining2024 · 02/10/2025 23:14

Muslim have also been attacked

clipboardz · 02/10/2025 23:18

Islamist extremism wil lcontinue to grow as long as extremist Zionism continues to attempt to ethnically cleanse a Muslim population.

As long as the western allies continue to support this, there will be continued risk of terrorism.

With this logic retaliation attacks against mosques and muslims will continue to increase and there will be a rise in far right terrorism. Great, more violence.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/10/2025 23:18

itsraining2024 · 02/10/2025 23:14

Muslim have also been attacked

Then start your own thread about that. Coming onto this one with nothing to say about compassion for the victims today, the dead, the witnesses, their families, their community but to attempt to derail it with “yeah but…” is fucking inhumane and disgusting.

OP, it’s beyond horrific and I’m so sorry that you can’t even post a thread like this without this sort of bullshit landing on it.

I am quite anti Israel when it comes to their excessive level of force in Gaza. However, these are Islamist extremists. They want any excuse to kill people. Heck they would even just do it anyway for the fun of it - they blew up a load of kids watching arianna grande remember?! So I don’t think for a second that stopping the Gaza war would make any difference. They are just wronguns. Really everyone should just stop killing each other - so I agree with you on that.

🙄

Comments like this aren’t helpful.

Islamophobia and antisemitism in this county are equally awful.

As well as attacks on and prejudice against non-whites, from multiple religions and multiple backgrounds. It’s been happening for years and years and but recently things are escalating due to ‘divide and conquer’ strategy from people at the top.
