Am I ungrateful because DP didn’t buy the calendar I wanted before it sold out?

I had a shit week last week and DP knew I was browsing beauty calendar’s. He asked which one I liked and I told him the name of the one I was going to buy.

He told me not to buy it and that he’d treat me to it as one of his Christmas presents to me. I was really grateful and said it sells out quick so to be aware of that.

Lo and behold, he’s gone to buy it and it’s sold out and not coming back in stock. I was annoyed, said I really had my eye on it and would have happily brought it myself as originally intended.

He says I’m being ungrateful and that it’s not his fault. Well, I told him he’d need to get a move on at the time and feel really annoyed now….

yes Op! Just put up and shut up when your husband doesn’t listen to you and lets you down! Don’t allow yourself to feel irritated with him even if his actions (or lack of action) really warrants it! Only spend money on the basics - like bills and food. No frivolities or treats for you. That will make you feel soooooo much better and really enhance your life!

Some of the comments on this thread are quite bizarre. I’m sure we are all aware of what’s happening in the world, and many of us have quite serious problems in our lives. My son in law is Palestinian and has lost countless members of his family in the last two years, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t switch off sometimes and think about lighthearted and frivolous things to take his mind off the rest of his life. I’ve had all sorts of shit going on in my life for the last three years, but that hasn’t stopped me from discovering that, in my mid sixties and having spent almost nothing on skin care, make up, hairdressers etc in my life, I love beauty advent calendars. They are a real source of enjoyment to me and deciding which one to buy each year, opening them, and enjoying the contents over the next few months helps to take my mind of some of the crap in my life. Every calendar has very different contents and I’m sure the OP will have spent some time deliberating on which one she wanted. As so many other people have said, she is quite rightly pissed off because she had decided to buy her chosen calendar but didn’t do so because her partner said he would do so. If someone is interested in beauty advent calendars then they will be aware that some of them sell out very fast, and having told her partner this, of course she was annoyed when he didn’t buy it in time.

And we wonder why divorce rates are so high … entitled people

why did he miss the sale? Oh yeah, cos he couldn’t be arsed. So therefore he does deserve for Op to be pissed off with him. I’m sure if the tables were turned OP would have pulled her finger out and ordered it straightaway to avoid him being disappointed

i would have been a bit annoyed if I hadn’t managed to get one. The bigger story is I was made redundant and with my redundancy money I decided to treat myself to something I really wanted, partly to celebrate a new job too
that was the only thing I wanted

it’s like anything, clothes, jewellery, if you’ve been looking at it for ages and got your heart set on it and it sells out then yeah you get a bit peeved
