mumofoneAloneandwell · 30/09/2025 10:11

Amanda Holden's daughter is now a model

Amanda is whinging saying that no-one should call her a nepo baby, she earned her modelling contract by herself

The kid is a nepo baby sorry 😭😭😭 - but what's so wrong with that?!

Just own it. Amanda bringing attention to it has just made it worse imo

Yanbu - the kid is a nepo baby
Yabu - the kid isnt a nepo baby and achieved this contract all by herself, no-one should ever call her a nepo baby ever!

Defo a nepo-baby. There are loads of them 😆

Doesn't mean they're not good/talented though. It's nothing to be ashamed of, and Amanda needs to chill.

I mean like Kate Hudson, Angelina Jolie, the Baldwins, the Fondas, all talented and successful... Then Kate Moss's daughter Lila - (gorgeous model like Kate! Would probably have made it anyway looking like she does...) Mabel (Neneh Cherry's daughter) talented and gorgeous and would have made it anyway probably.

That said, having a back door in is a great advantage in the arts (or any profession really,) but they won't be successful purely because they're a nepo baby. Look at Brooklyn Beckham - successful at nothing and no real talent at anything. And Julian Lennon. 2 hit wonder who has not been heard of for 40 years, even though his dad is John Lennon.

I have to say though, I think Amanda being Lexi's mum is a large part of the reason she is a 'model.' She is OK, and fairly cute, but I would never have said she was a model looking at her. She looks like an average teenager to me. Nothing special, and definitely not model material. I doubt she would have got signed up by Storm Model agency if she was not Amanda Holden's daughter... I doubt she will last as a model.

FeetupTvon · 30/09/2025 17:46

Just Googled her and I don’t think she’d have become a model on her own merit.

Me neither @FeetupTvon 100% would never have guessed she was a 'model.' No way would she have got signed to Storm had she not had a famous mother.

He was married to a Hollywood actress.

I think he’s been married to more than one. But he was in starring roles himself at the time they met.

Goodness I have just looked her up, I honestly think she must be a nepo baby as I would not have thought she was model material. Unless the DM and Hello have deliberately posted awful pictures of her which I would not put past them!

I do feel a bit sorry for children of famous people though. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't

Totally agree. Miss Hughes is a beautiful girl, in the way that young women are very beautiful, but not outstanding in a ‘model’ sense.

I wish her every success, she’s done right - if I had a chance at any kind of nepotism I would take it with both hands.

Charredtea · 30/09/2025 18:04

Rewis · 30/09/2025 15:40

I think people mix two branches of nepotism. There is nepotism where you are unqualified/untalented and get a job because of your connections. Then there is being qualified/talented and the connections got you through the door and now you get to prove yourself. The nepotism babies in entertainment industry won't make it unless they have talent. Having a famous mom will get you hired for a movie, but it won't give you dozens of lead roles in big films unless you've proven yourself.

I think there’s an element of reciprocity here, with nepo actors, models, tv presenters etc.
the children of famous families get a leg up, the designers, tv producers, record labels etc get a name that is going to get noticed and sell their product precisely because of who they are.
They may improve on their skills as time goes on but theres plenty of terrible actors, screen and stage, presenters etc who are in great jobs because of who they are and lots of mediocre models and singers who are there as a great draw.

3peassuit · 30/09/2025 11:57

I suppose it’s following your parents into the family business. My son in law is a solicitor like his mother and grandfather before that, does that make him a nepo baby?

It's not exactly the same because lots of people can and do become solicitors without any family background. Having parents who can give you introductions, advice, help you with training or financially, or just exposure to relevant knowledge (e.g. dining room conversation) which makes it an accessible career, is of course a bonus, and should be acknowledged, but it's perfectly plausible your son could have become a solicitor even if nobody else in his family was.

There's also independent and OBJECTIVE indicators of achievement - no matter how much help you might get from your family, every solicitor/dr/chef etc has to pass exams that prove they are sufficiently knowledgeable, and, for lack of a better word, worthy.

Whereas the chance of your average person becoming a model or actor or singer is incredibly low, and whether they are any 'good' is completely subjective.

I turned down the chance to be a nepo baby. My auntie Brenda sorted me out with a job at Asda. She was very put out that I rejected it and went to university.

Honestly you chose wrong babe, you could be the head of Asdas by now xxx 😄

Her dad is a "show business agent". Not a trace of nepotism.

CoffeeCantata · 30/09/2025 19:18

Abirowed · 30/09/2025 17:19

I just find the term ‘nepo baby’ catty and bitchy. Lots of people will be given help through networks - whether that’s someone who wants to work as a mechanic and getting experience in her uncle’s garage, to someone getting a foot in the door at the friend’s mum’s firm, to giving a well evidenced speech at the UN.

I only object to nepotism when it’s a publicly funded organisation. Of course small businesses will give jobs to family members- that’s the very definition of a family business.

i mind very much when it’s the BBC or national museums, galleries or institutions.

I think if a company chooses 'talent' on the basis of who a person's parents are it is embarrassing and they should be ashamed that their principles are lacking.

I had to go look her up.
She's just a very normal looking girl. 100% nepo baby.

Oh wow, she is plainer than I realised. Her walk is terrible and she looks constipated. Oh dear.

Disagree about Lila Moss, there is no way she would be a model if she weren't Kate's daughter.

I know of a few who are clones of her at Storm - it’s photographic stuff & very irregular too.

This has happened for donkeys years unfortunately re: casting for films ‘We want X - hang on isn’t that so & so’s daughter be great publicity etc’.

Yes, I know so it's about time it changed. It is particularly unfair on the BBC as the licence is paid for by the public. Mind you most of them seem to end up on The One Show!

Hotflushesandchilblains · 30/09/2025 21:12

The only nepo baby I ever heard talking about it who did not sound ridiculous is Jaime Lee Curtis. Dont know why everyone does not take that approach - yep, my parents wanted me to have every advantage they could give me, but also taught me the value of hard work and doing what you have a talent for. Thats all anyone needs to say.

Ben Stiller sounds positively whiny when he complains about being called a nepo baby. And from Amanda Holden, whose only talent appear to be wearing revealing clothing, its quite funny to hear complaints.

I think that this comment (amongst others) crosses a line.

i’d be horrified if my daughter was being discussed online like this online.

I think Amanda herself got a little help with starting her career from the husband at the time, Les Dennis. Perhaps she's a bit sensitive about that 🤣

100% I can’t stand the woman - such an attention seeker which is a pet hate of mine-especially when you’re out of your teens. So embarrassing. Just grow up. Her daughter is stunning but Amanda was very plain and is now over filled like everyone else out there ie, plastic looking.

This is it, if you bring it up and complain, we are going to judge you 😭😭

Ben Stiller's dad as George Codtamza's dad in Seinfeld is 🙌🙌🙌

I mean if you can why wouldn't you?

Its a highly profitable industry so you should take any advantage even if that means you have the label.

In these industries its the "influence" that sells them anyway - look at Kendal Jenner- I don't think she had a traditional nepo route, but her status brings people to look.

Tourist29 · 30/09/2025 21:29

I voted unreasonable as you’ve set this up inviting people to insult a 19 year old girl (and her mum). I’m deleting Mumsnet, it’s beyond awful.

Yep. Same with books/authors. Easier to get into it if you have a famous relative. Ditto the music industry, acting etc.... Almost fecking impossible if you have no connections.

I don't dislike Amanda, but she can be a bit annoying at times.

And her laugh!!! 😖

@CoffeeCantata

Their cry is always “Oh, but the name/connection only opens the door. Then you have to prove yourself!”

Yes, dear, but many people just need the door opening for them and they too could do what you’re doing! It’s getting your foot in the door that’s the hard bit!

Well, exactly....
