Was I in the wrong? Neighbour issue?

hallogalorrr · 29/09/2025 10:05

I created a private Facebook group for the 3 streets on the new build estate where I live.

Most of my neighbours are on it.

My next door neighbour who lives next to me has stopped speaking to me now as from what I gather her and her partner were annoyed that I didn’t invite them to join the group.

I did ask my other next door neighbour to join.

Yesterday we got back at the same time in our cars and I could tell they didn’t want to acknowledge me or say hello as they just sat in their car until I had gone in.

My neighbour would also take by bin and parcels but has stopped.

Is my next door neighbour right to be annoyed and AIBU?

Is there any particular reason you didn’t ask them to join the group?

Birdsongsingingagainandagain · 29/09/2025 10:06

Why didnt you ask them?

FuzzyWolf · 29/09/2025 10:07

Surely you gave everyone the same opportunity to join the group so if they have decided against it, they can’t hold that against you.

FaitesVosJeux · 29/09/2025 10:08

YABU. I don't even know you and I'm annoyed at you.

Faceonthewrongfoot · 29/09/2025 10:09

This all sounds a bit ridiculous. Why didn't you invite them? Why haven't they just asked you to join it? Who's told you that this is the reason they're upset? Why don't you just go over and talk to them?
Are you all 12?!

BettysRoasties · 29/09/2025 10:11

If you make a neighbourhood group you invite everyone or at least spread the word. You definitely don’t not invite a direct neighbour you get along with. Even a small note through the letter box.

Hey I’ve set up a group for the residents of Wtf drive, did I really do that street and oh shit here we go again close.

AOIFEmissingUalways · 29/09/2025 10:11

Same question as everyone else... Why didn't you invite them to join?

Sunfloweranddaisy · 29/09/2025 10:13

You missed out why you didn’t ask them to join the group??

SprayWhiteDung · 29/09/2025 10:16

I created a private Facebook group for the 3 streets on the new build estate where I live.

Clearly not. You created a group for some of your friends who happen to live nearby.

If it's just a general neighbourhood group, why would you deliberately exclude people who already happily do perfectly normal neighbourly things?

Pancakeflipper · 29/09/2025 10:18

If it's for neighbours living on these 3 streets and they live on these 3 streets then why have you excluded them?

It appears mean, though I sure you have a reasonable explanation.

PollyBell · 29/09/2025 10:19

The bin and parcel service is not enough for a FB invite?

Tessasanderson · 29/09/2025 10:19

You created a method for you and a select few of your choice to be able to discuss your neighbours. Its cyber bullying in its most basic form.

If you want to be reasonable then make it open. If not then the presumption will be that you have nothing nice to say.

K0OLA1D · 29/09/2025 10:21

Unless you're missing something out. YABU

OriginalSkang · 29/09/2025 10:23

This is a reverse

Why didnt you ask them?

This.

Yes, why didn’t you ask them? We need to know to be able to respond appropriately

godmum56 · 29/09/2025 10:51

this has to be either a joke or a child.

ForeverPombear · 29/09/2025 10:52

I don't understand why you didn't ask them if you've done it for the three streets.I would also have stopped taking in your bin and parcels, they're doing things for you but you've made it clear they aren't part of the group.

This is a reverse

Quite probably.

HelpMeGetThrough · 29/09/2025 11:02

The whole idea of street WhatsApp and Facebook groups baffle me.

hallogalorrr · 29/09/2025 11:02

I didn’t think that she would want to join as I think her and her OH like to keep themselves to themselves.

She does make it fairly obvious now that she dosent want to engage in convo (she used to chat before) and just walks off when she see’s me.

MissKomodoDragonsBrunch · 29/09/2025 11:05

Well, she is taking her cues from you - You were rude and didn’t invite them, despite her doing you favours (bin and deliveries) and chatting/engaging with you. I wouldn’t give you the time of day, either, as I would assume you wouldn’t want me to.

BettysRoasties · 29/09/2025 11:05

You can be in a Facebook group and still keep yourself to yourself. Being in a Facebook group doesn’t suddenly mandate a sharing or airing of one’s dirty laundry.

You were mean by excluding them and assuming they wouldn’t want to join. They now are behaving as expected. If most people were frozen out of something they would behave the same way. Why would you expect them to be friendly when you have made them feel excluded from their own area? And groups like this usually end up a bitchfest, so they are probably aware of that too and are assuming it’s aimed at them.

You didn’t think she’d want to join? Nothing like assuming you know what other people think!

Talipesmum · 29/09/2025 11:06

It’s one thing to choose not to join in, and another to be excluded from a street wide group. Best go around and apologise, say you didn’t want to intrude with it as you felt they liked to keep themselves to themselves (or something), profusely apologise and send them the link. It’s all in your apology though - it was v thoughtless of you and they’re right to be mad.

And if this is a reverse then go and tell the group setter upper that yes you would like the option please.
