Reform voters may not be racist but they are at least dangerously naive

1000 replies

ChocolateMagnum · 29/09/2025 08:00

AIBU to accept that some Reform voters may not actually be racist, but to be pretty certain that, if they're not, they are at the very least dangerously naive?

I thought we all got taught at school about how fascism took over in 1939s Germany? And there's so much out there at the moment showing why we are at a dangerous turning point in history again.

Why is it that the so-called non-racist Reform voters not see that they are aligning themselves with a covertly racist and fascist-leaning party and that their support risks tipping the balance towards a fascist dictatorship in the UK?

I’d be interested in your definition of a Briton, as you keep repeating it.

Somebody from Britain.

HTH.

Scary isn’t it. My siblings are also trying to get second passports for themselves and their children (like you, born bred Britons) because of how worrying they find the current rhetoric (not just here - but across Europe.)

It’s the people who can’t get dual citizenship I feel bad for, I wouldn’t want to freely relinquish my birthright citizenship for the U.K. if I was a foreign national knowing what this country and anybody ‘different’ is in for if reform get in. It’s absolutely terrifying and ridiculous that people seem to be sleepwalking into it.

It’s scary for me as a disabled person and for my mixed race family members. None of us are immigrants but they aren’t going to stop at immigrants, and people who think they are safe are the epitome of naive.

I have totally lost all faith in the British populace.

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

That’s not particularly specific. When you say ‘from’, do you mean someone born here, or someone’s who’s lived/living here?

Well they have been murmurs of Reform wanting to force those of us with two (or more) passports to relinquish one.

I currently am a dual national and want all my family and friends to similarly work on a back up plan.

And I agree they won’t stop at immigrants. They originally claimed it was just illegal immigrants and that was shown to be a lie.

Illegal immigrants, then legal immigrants then it will be those of immigrant descent.

‘they aren’t going to stop at immigrants, and people who think they are safe are the epitome of naive.’

Not naive, just sensible. Your post is the epitome of scaremongering and baseless hysteria. You have no evidence whatever to back your claims - it’s just silly and unhelpful.

It’s not baseless hysteria, you’re sticking your fingers in your ears. Just like they did then, and just like people did over Brexit. I’m not arguing about it. I just give up. You’ll see.

No evidence? Farage has already started his bullshit about disabled SEN children, disabled workers, about gay marriage, switched from illegal to now legal immigrants etc. This is just the start of it. He’s being very careful with what he says at the moment, but if you pay enough attention beyond social media propaganda, he’s showing you who he is. Not my fault if you can’t see it.

Part of me hopes he does get in because when we all suffer, at least the ones who voted for them will suffer with us and then you might see. He wants this country just like Trumps America. If you’re happy with that, fill your boots I guess. Like I said, I’m not arguing with you, I’m tired of it. Whatever happens will.

Another irresponsible comparison between Reform and "1930's Germany", "Nazis" etc. As a family we recently visited Berlin and all I will say is that you are at best, ill-informed and uneducated, or at worst massively disrespectful to all of those poor souls who suffered at the hands of true fascists.

Do you think fascists start out with a sign across their forehead, ‘I’m a fascist!’? No, of course they don’t, they sell themselves as for the people, a saviour from common enemy, they spread false propaganda like wildfire, they promote ultra nationalism. If they just revealed their hand and weren’t very sly about their aims, they’d never get elected in the first place.

What escapes many on the left's nuance, is that the majority of reform voters do NOT actually want to vote reform. They're former Labour or Tory voters who have become totally disillusioned by the major parties as they are either unwilling ( labour) or incompetent ( Tory,) at sorting immigration. There is no other choice. 15 years and counting have proven that, or we could take it right back to the Blair years really. Talk to some and they'll tell you; they're backed into a corner and this is the only alternative offered. Far from being ' naive,' or ' ignorant ', they've sussed it - there is NO other option. call them as many slurs as you like, it won't change their minds. The nhs is going to be completely screwed and the bottom will fall out of the welfare state, but the strength of feeling is so great, they'll sacrifice it and openly admit it. Labour and Tories should hang their headx in shame. My only slight hope is for a coalition to create some check and balance.

I woke in a panic thinking I'd implied I was religious earlier. Im not. Just russian.

I remember the EU referendum topic on Mumsnet bre-Brexit.

Specifically, I remember the sheer quantity of shitposting and fake news which was utterly impossible to combat.

If that discussion hadn't been hidden away in a corner of the site no one looked at, perhaps Mumsnet users would have realised what remainers were up against.

Edited

If they fell for Farage’s lies the first time, watched him slither off and then they’re back for more then there’s really no hope for them. And the rest of us unfortunately. When you’re tethered to the lemmings as they jump off the cliff 🤦‍♀️

I wonder whether any Reform voters ever ask themselves why leaving the EU didn't actually fix anything.

We absolutely did and the reason is because the political party (Conservatives) didn't want to leave the EU and didn't progress the notion. Not rocket science is it....

I don't know what I'll do either.

I have nowhere to go.

I dont think people realise just how scary that is. It's not something I ever thought I'd have to face until this week.

Ive been to court and sworn a declaration to be British (you have to do this to get naturalisation but the process was never completeled)but I don't think that will mean anything if reform gets in.

I was 6 months old when I got here.

I think that is exactly it. People don’t realise how scary Nigel Farage is with his rhetoric. They’re not seeing perfectly normal people who have lived here for decades become worried their country isn’t for them anymore. Their imagination is conjuring up the worst possible version of a Muslim, when really it’s normal colleagues or friends who may be targeted.

I recall when ICE in the US started deporting very settled people. Trump voters were lamenting ‘I didn’t mean him/her, I meant them’. Well they did mean the people they knew, and we’ve got exactly the same prospect here.

@Toastandbutterand I am ashamed we’ve got here and I’m so sorry. We should be better than a nation of islamophobes. .

FunnyOrca · 30/09/2025 05:58

they are racist. Nearly all of the party’s policies are racist or xenophobic. Nobody could support this party without being racist.

Try being calm when your existence is being threatened. I've spent the evening trying to work out where I might claim asylum. My mum and I were born in the UK I might add.

Couldn’t you claim asylum in literally any Muslim country? But something tells me you might not want to be a woman in Afghanistan or Sudan.
