Something that stays with you, or something that you reference all the time?

Mine is Autoglass Repair Autoglass Replace. Literally, the second my windscreen got a crack this week, I knew i'd just contact them.

They're actually just called 'Autoglass' as well, but i still say the full tagine for the fun of it.

My dad sure loved a Flake in the 70s 🤣

I grew up in Ireland, some ads genuinely became part of our culture, like the Kerrygold butter ones (Would ya put a bit a butter on the spuds Andre/Who’s taking the horse to France?) and Harp (frying an egg on a rock/Sally O’Brien and the way she might look at ya).

To me, the most amazingly aesthetic ads have to be the Guinness ones from the late 80s/90s, especially the dancing man and the surfer. Stunning

PruthePrune · 26/09/2025 16:16

Agree with the PP re the Spirit of Dark and Lonely Water PIF. That has genuinely scared a generation of kids so was exceptionally effective. Something like that wouldn't be allowed these days which is a shame, it worked!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/09/2025 16:32

About 40 years later, we still say “Daddy or Chips?” for a difficult decision.

TheJustJoker · 26/09/2025 16:40

For mash get Smash Smile (am very old lol). The chuckling aliens/robots were funny.

Omgg I havent seen it but have chills from your description 😄

All road safety ads are done so well tbh

Stop look and listen, with the hedgehogs for me though

I liked (wrong word) that one where it says 'So and so, like most women knew her killer. '. She's driving a long, a car appears to be following her then it says 'it were her son'. She has to brake suddenly and the son, not wearing a seatbelt lunges forward and she smacks her head into the windscreen.

I have never been influenced to buy anything by adverts at all. Someone once told me 'If they haev to advertise it, you don't need it' (I think they meant food-wise).

But the ones that aren't advertising a product but rather a cautionary tale, I did take note of them.

I must be one of the few people who has actually been caught in quicksand. It was extremely frightening! And it was only up to my knees. Obviously I got out. Lost my shoes, though.

Diet Coke break ads

Trio Triiio I want a Trio and I want one now

The man from Del Monte, he says YES!

Milky bar kid is on his way / it’s the Milky bar kid!

Just say No! (Zammo)

Edited

Oo 'the milky bar kid is strong and tough/only the best is good enough/creamy milk, a whiter bar/the good taste that's in milky bar' 😭😭

Not quite an ad but Subway used to sponsor Biggest Loser, and it I want a “healthy” fast food option I always go to Subway, even though I bet in reality it’s not that much better (if at all) than its competitors. But the association with Biggest Loser is enshrined in my mind.

A few that spring to mind - you’ve benn tangoed, the meerkat, milk tray, various Guinness ones (even though I can’t stand the stuff), milk/Accrington Stanley

Not sure what Accrington stanley even is but I can hear the name in my head

Diamonds for engagement rings.

They weren’t a thing until a DeBeers campaign in 1947. We still use the slogan “A Diamond is Forever”.

Dearg · 26/09/2025 17:29

Beanz Meanz Heinz

and as pp said ‘For Mash Get Smash’

Also MacEwans in the Best Buy ( in beer) - I have been known to break into that jingle fairly recently. My DH said the beer is shite.

PruthePrune · 26/09/2025 17:36

A Finger of Fudge is just enough to give your kids a a treat
A Finger of Fudge is just enough until it's time to eat
It's full of Cadbury goodness but very small and neat
A Finger of Fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat

Omg where was the quicksand??! How terrifying. Were you a kid when it happened?

I'm the opposite, I am very easy to influence 🙈, always buying impulse purchases at the till

The dark adverts do stay with me as well. Have you ever watched Inside No. 9? The episode with Sheridan Smith?

If you ever get the chance, try and watch, its one of the best tv episodes ive ever seen!

I remember that one. It was horrifying. I think the woman was called Julie.

I found this road safety advert utterly chilling.
