Has anyone had any woo experiences, particularly if it's something/someone you've seen? I know that not everyone believes, just I've had some odd experiences myself and it makes me wonder. Especially with Halloween next month and it being a little while since we've had a woo thread. Would love to hear your stories!

MoodyMargaret11 That sounds similar to the type of thing I had years ago, my cousin lived in a really old stone cottage, everything was fine until they started renovations, they had added an extra upstairs bedroom, took out the original staircase and moved it to another part of the house, ( it wasn't listed) and generally altered the layout of the place.

My cousin was going away for a night and I offered to stay in her cottage and look after the place and her two kittens, well never again. In the middle of the night in bed I heard the kittens playing on the landing, they were running up and down and generally being imps as kittens are, when suddenly I heard these HUGE heavy footsteps that could only come from a man wearing boots, I honestly thought someone had broken in and had made their way upstairs, this carried on for about 5 minutes while I lay in bed frozen to the spot not daring to move, my heart was pounding so much I thought it would burst, I just laid there all night and waited for dawn, it was awful. I told my cousin I would never ever stay in her cottage alone again.

Thank you for sharing this, it must have been even scarier for you as the "entity" was actually inside the house and you had no way out.

I understand completely the heart pounding, frozen with fear response.

Did your cousin ever report anything strange?
I wouldnt want to go back there either.

Oo these are very spooky. Especially the ones where people have spoken to people not realising it wasn't actually them and someone else Shock

There's been some corkers on here in the past like the Essex nightclub one with the angry male ghost and the Savernake forest story.

I've had a few weird experiences but most recently, I had a dream of a young man standing at the end of our bed and dp also had a dream the same time also about the same man. I understand it may well be coincidence, but a very good one!

I remember the Saversnake story. I read it in the middle of the day and my blood ran cold. Just thinking of being in those woods and that voice! Ergh, gives my goosebumps (even if it is fake). Do you know where I can find the Essex one please? Don't think I've read that yet.

Yes she said things went missing never to be seen again, she dropped her bracelet in the front room saw it roll under the sideboard she never found it even when they moved out she never saw it again, she moved out 6 months after the renovations, it had a lovely atmosphere when she moved in and nothing woo happened, but I think the extensive renovations stirred something in the house, one time in the middle of the night she heard a horses whip noise crack on the wooden floor in her bedroom, it scared the living daylights out of her, she said it was deafening, almost angry, she put it on the market shortly after...oddly enough it's never been sold since, only rented.

arh25 · 28/09/2025 07:42

@Greenmouldycheese I don't believe the Savernake forest one is real either, just it's very famous on here.

I found the Essex nightclub story for you on this page:

I hear people call my name in my head. More than a few times it has been confirmed with the person that they were thinking of calling for me (from outside where they were, or from inside the house we were both in). but had not physically called out, though I heard the call anyway and came to them, hence finding out they were thinking about calling me.

unsurewhattodoaboutit · 28/09/2025 09:53

@user0345437398maybe listen to the telepathy tapes podcast.

Probablyshouldntsay · 28/09/2025 10:01

I’m sure there’s a rational explanation for mine but I haven’t found it yet.

my mum had been in a coma for 4 weeks, and I’d stayed in work pretty much throughout.
One morning I had a huge panic attack from nowhere, absolutely convinced she would die that day. Took the day off work and with it being such a beautiful day, took my exdp and child to the park after school.
The park was packed, DC happily playing with friends on the slide and EXDP and I sat on the grass watching and chatting.
Suddenly floating over the trees (in the direction that the hospital was in) was an enormous aluminium looking balloon, maybe 400ft up in the air, it looked to be the size of a Range Rover. It was absolutely massive.
I thought I was hallucinating and asked Exdp if he could see it. He replied that he could and we watched it for about 3 mins until it began floating away. No one else at the park paid any attention to it.
I said ‘they’re going to call me, it’s time to come in’ and as I finished speaking my phone rang. It was the nurse on mums ward telling me to hurry and get there as her organs were shutting down.
Mum died a couple hours later.

FWIW we live very rurally, on the coast no big businesses etc that would have some kind of huge car size balloon, or events etc.
it was ‘perfect’ for want of a better word, it appeared totally solid and smooth sort of chrome.

RamsaySnowsSausage · 28/09/2025 11:28

For anyone who needs a palate cleanser...

I was in hospital with glandular fever and was feeling the end was nigh.

I came round from an induced sleep to see a nun sat next to my bed, eyes closed, full habit, rosary out, speaking Latin.

I passed out again and was telling my mum about my visitation/near death experience the next day when the nurse interrupted to say that that she was real- she was sister so-and-so who just did freelance nunnery at the hospital praying for patients!

I felt quite the bell end and reverted to atheism.

To stay on thene, it was York Hospital but no plague girls or roman soldiers visited me, just a fully human nun.

May as well jog on then

Thank you. I will have a look. I know it's telepathy, can't be anything else. I love it though because I feel connected to those I love. It only happens with those I love. x

Dissappearedupmyownarse · 28/09/2025 13:30

I've got loads but this one really freaks me out still. I often pick up on negative energy in places or get an uneasy feeling, anyway....

About 25yrs ago me and my boyfriend (now ex) were looking to purchase a house. I found the most beautiful, chocolate box looking cottage in the middle of nowhere! We arranged a viewing and when we arrived, we're greeted at the front door by the estate agent. The house had a simple layout; front door straight into living room with staircase within it. Next room straight on was the dining room, the the kitchen after that. To the side of the kitchen was another square room.
Anyway, we had a look round downstairs and all OK. We then went upstairs and the same simple layout followed with 3 bedrooms all in a row with the bathroom off to the side. As I was in the bathroom I turned around to see my boyfriend and the estate agent had good back downstairs. I suddenly had the most overwhelming feeling of panic/doom and ran back downstairs and blurted out ' OK who died here,!' The EA face changed and she asked what did I know?? I told her how I got a bad feeling up in the bathroom and she 'nothing happened up there' I replied with, I know it didn't, it happened in the kitchen...'
She then said no it didn't and I then told her, 'not the new kitchen, the old one!'
I honestly had no idea how I knew all this information and my boyfriend just stared at me like I was a freak!!!
Needless to say we left sharpish and didn't buy the house!
Lots of Google later (and the bbc even did a documentary on it about 5yrs after we viewed the house).
Turns out the old kitchen was the room on the side and the mother and daughter had been bludgeon to dead by a man with a knife in there! That room was directly below the bathroom.
The man had spent roughly 3-5 days in the house with the bodies, moving them about, sitting them on the sofas etc before leaving.
He was eventually arrested 6mths later and had no motive for it.....

Dissappearedupmyownarse · 28/09/2025 13:43

Another one

I absolutely hate my NDNs house. When they go away they always ask me to feed their bloody parrot (which is bloody pure evil in itself...) They have a really creepy staircase that I always get the heebie jeebies when I walk past it! I often dash past and get that feeling of being chased and almost caught like when you were playing as a child.
I casually mention this to my neighbour one day and she laughed and said 'I'm not surprised given the previous owner hung themselves from their.....' 😬😬😬

arh25 · 28/09/2025 15:12

@Dissappearedupmyownarse your stories are so eerie, would love to hear more!

I used to babysit in a huge, very old house. There was a cosy, modern snug I used to sit in with there Dalmatian but the rest of the hose seemed dark and oppressive.
The thought of taking the twins and their older brother to bed was awful, I dreaded it. Up an eeire, winding staircase to the third floor landing were the kids rooms were. There was just a really creepy feeling in that house. There was a mirror on the stairs and a mirror on the landing I would belt down the stairs avoiding looking in the mirrors stairs and I felt like I was being chased. I didn't feel safe until I was back in the snug. Going to check the kids were asleep later, I had to really psyche myself up to go and had the exact same feeling every time. It was like something was lurking in the shadows.

ElsaMars · 02/10/2025 12:59

I 100% believe that ghosts or spirits are like a film playing on a loop, almost like an imprint on a place, not capable of thought or speech but a remembered aura.

I saw what I believe to be such a ghost in a cemetery, of a man in a black suit stood at the end of a (his?) Grave when I was about 15. There was no way he could have come through the scraping, creaky gate without me noticing, as I was having a sneaky fag! He then silently disappeared.

KelsCommemorativeSausage · 02/10/2025 13:53

@ElsaMars me too. Like time slips/recordings.

Thank God you said this

I have exactly the same thing happen-only the other day,I heard my mil 'speak' to me
Clear as day
I rang her and she'd just got out of hospital (long term health issues) and she was about to work up the courage to stand up and ring dp (she was in a lot of pain)
I got there first

The same thing happens all the time at work
I'll hear someone shout 'witch!' but deny they shouted me when I go to them but 99% of the time, they where just about to find me

I once saw my fil standing near me at work
Just standing and smiling at me-we'd lost him to bastard cancer a year earlier

I’ve had so many experiences, voices, sounds but have also seen 2 ghosts, a soldier running past me on the stairs of a venue and a girl ghost that disappeared in front of me and others.

My very non woo dad years ago, happened late 90’s saw I believe was the hangman of hangleton from the outskirts of Brighton area, he described seeing a very tatty, dirty looking man walking alongside the road, no pavement you have to drive this stretch of road, my dad was in the car, said he looked like he had been shipwrecked, I didn’t think ‘ghost’ but years later, I had no idea until I saw online that the ghost of the hangman from the 17th century haunts that exact stretch of the road, and it’s where he executed criminals by hanging them there back in the day and also became his own fate. Others have reported, just as my dad described, very tatty clothes and that he suddenly turns to stare at you if you notice him. There is an unusually large population of crows, ravens and magpies still there, years ago they would feast on the rotten corpses left in the gibbets.

enjoying reading anyone’s encounters, happy Halloween 🎃 month

woothreadNC · 05/10/2025 19:31

Name changed in case I ever tell anyone this in person.

Before I begin, I have to say: I don’t realllly believe in ‘woo’, spirits, ghosts, anything like that. I can think of a (very few) things I’ve seen, heard or felt over the years but nothing which can’t be explained, as far as I’m concerned. I say all this, not to dismiss anything on this thread, as I do enjoy reading all the contributions, but to emphasise that I really can’t explain this one story I will tell here. It’s not a ghost story, it’s an I-can’t-explain-it-story. A WTF (to me, at least) story. It’s actually laughable in its banality!

This happened a couple of months ago. In Sheffield city centre, on a double decker bus.
We (me, DP, two kids) were off on a mini break, had gotten the train and then crossed over to get the bus which would take us directly to our destination. Anyway, waited at the stand for a bit, bus pulls in, we get on. Bus is quite empty and we head upstairs, which is empty bar two other people. Kids immediately see the front of the bus is free so of course they head straight for those seats, with DP sat opposite them also along the front(they are on the left side, DP on the right side). I sit behind the stairwell on the right hand side of the bus, so behind DP but with the stairs separating us. I’m probably explaining the seating to just paint the picture that they’re at the front and I’m set back a bit. Anyway.
As I was going to take my seat, I registered a man and a woman on the right side of the deck, one set of seats back from the spot I’d chosen to sit at. So they were across from me and one set behind. No one else upstairs bus us.
The man in the couple was on the aisle seat. And he had bright red eyes. Now, I don’t know how else to explain it other than the guy had…red eyes. I was obviously thinking, ‘wtf’. My mind was ticking off, horror contact lenses? No. Those are obvious. And anyway the man wasn’t some young goth, or dressed in any way to suggest he was off to a party of any kind, like an early Halloween party if those are even a thing. It was lunchtime, in the summer, he’s wearing normal clothes, the woman next to him was similarly dressed. Very ordinary, inconspicuous every day clothing. The woman was looking out the window as it happens, they don’t seem very ‘together’ as in acknowledging each other but in any case they are sat together on an otherwise empty bus, so I assume they were.
Nothing to hint at the man wackily deciding to just don a pair of red contacts. Anyway, brief as it was, we’d met eyes and I could just tell the irises of his eyes weren’t obscured by the blocky colour contacts give. They were a normal pair of eyes other than being a quite vivid…red colour. So not the whites of the eyes, just the middle bits which encircle the pupils. Then I was thinking oh well maybe he’s had laser eye surgery and his eyes are bleeding? or something? What do I know. Trying to come up in my mind with a reason for a human being casually sat on a bus in Yorkshire with red coloured eyes. I was literally sat there looking out the window wondering, maybe some people have a really rare eye colour or something. Thinking like, bloody hell, people must be really taken aback by this guy sometimes unless they know him, how unusual etc
After a couple of minutes I thought, snack time. I’ll get a cereal bar out my bag and while I’m at it I’ll discreetly turn and sneak a look at his man again in case my own eyes had been deceiving me before.
I did so, to find that this man, was looking straight at me, with his RED eyes. Head slightly turned outwards, to look straight at me. Now I was a bit like, oh wow that’s a lot bit creepy! I sent a WhatsApp to DP saying something like, ‘don’t turn around to make it obvious but the dude behind us seems to have bright red eyes lol’. He replied with a 😂 and indeed, did not turn around to see.
Anyway the bus journey is picking up a bit, passengers are coming up and sitting down here and there and I even I glanced up the first few times to see if anyone visibly, did a sort of double-take going by these two behind me, but nothing to no one did, that I noticed.
The bus journey was quite a long one and I start to register that his couple who had not said a word to each other until now, were suddenly being quite chatty and were having a good old chinwag.
About a half hour after that I sense they are about to get off at their stop but as they walk past and descend the stairs, I realised I’d wrongly assumed the chatty couple were this original (distinctive red eyes and woman next to him) couple, and were different people who must’ve got on at some point, whatever. It was at this moment I briefly turned my head to look out the opposite window, expecting to see original couple still sat in stony silence. They were not there. I hadn’t seen them get off. I’m not sure how I missed them getting off as they were on my radar already, and would’ve had to have walked past me, and then faced me directly by going down the stairs. I’m willing to write that part off as odd, but maybe I’d somehow managed to blank out them getting off the bus even though one of them had caught my attention enough to give me the biggest ‘What the hell’ of my life. I’m not trying to claim they were both ghosts. But what I definitely can’t account for is the eyes themselves. It doesn’t make sense to me. People don’t have red eyes. But that man did.
