To start a new woo thread

Has anyone had any woo experiences, particularly if it's something/someone you've seen? I know that not everyone believes, just I've had some odd experiences myself and it makes me wonder. Especially with Halloween next month and it being a little while since we've had a woo thread. Would love to hear your stories!

@Worried198423 I know what you mean in regards to the "minds eye" thing. I used to live in a flat and never physically saw anything but I had a "minds eye" vision of someone and it matched to what someone actually saw

@arh25 that's being clairvoyant. Not many mediums 'see' like looking at us. They get what you got and symbols etc.

I have two strange ones, but they're not very scary. They definitely made me wonder about the other side - in general I'm sceptical.

The first time I was in a place I used to walk my dogs every day, it's on a hill and I was in the middle of it, but there were no trees for me to miss anyone being there. Just meadow. It was 2pm in April - not a creepily lit time of day. I heard a quiet but clear voice saying "Oh no, don't go there..." as if someone was maybe 10ft behind me. It creeped me out enough to make me leave quickly and I'm completely comfortable being in the woods at night without a moon from my rabbiting days so I'm not easily unsettled.

I got home fine without anything else, cleaned off my dogs and got ready to take the other one out alone (I'd just recently bought her, and didn't let her run with my other dogs yet as I didn't trust her.) Midway through my stroll with the other dog we were viciously attacked by a pack of large bandogs. We were both badly bitten and my dog was mauled to the point of almost losing two legs, but luckily neither of us died and I'm not sure how.

I still wonder if that voice was warning me not to go to the other place afterwards, and if somehow there was some intervention that meant we made it out alive. The vet was also shocked my dog lived.

The second time my mother was on home hospice with lung cancer. I had been sitting with her for two weeks and on Christmas Eve she died when everyone but me had left the room. After I left my parents house after she had died, I couldn't sleep thinking of what had happened. It was around 2-3am and I had been trying to sleep for two hours so I decided to go out on a walk so I wasn't just laying there thinking about it.

Midwalk I started ugly crying again, and was looking up at the sky trying to bargain with something that it was all just a bad dream. One of my dogs started pulling really hard and I thought it was an early hedgehog or something like that, but when I looked down there was a white pigeon/dove just walking on the ground and cooing. I thought it was injured to be out so early and walking around instead of roosting somewhere or sitting, afaik pigeons don't like strolling around in the dark. So I walked up to it slowly to try and pick it up and it just kept walking away but cooing for around 5 minutes.

Eventually after following it, it flew away, and my mind had been taken off my mother worrying about this stupid pigeon walking around at night. I'd never seen one before in the area, and never seen one since. Sometimes I wonder if one of my relatives was trying to make me feel better. My mother whenever she would see white feathers in the garden would say it made her think of my grandmother, so it definitely makes me wonder if there's anything else out there.

Pack of large bandogs? What country was this ? They’re banned in Uk, why were they in a pack? Where was there owner? ! Awful experience, it’s a blessing you and dog survived

Like some other poster, I have a banal, unexplained domestic one. I live in a house that was previously owned by an elderly couple, Maggie and John. It was a probate sale and some of their things were still in the house when I moved in, and my neighbours knew them and talked of them, so I think of them fondly as if I knew them too. Last week, I came into my bedroom and one of the coat hangers I’d left on the bed was hooked over my drying rack; and I thought, ah that’s Maggie.

Also, a comforting one… I was close to my grandfather; and he died in the October. In the November, his Christmas card to me that he’d sent the previous year, but had been lost in the post, was finally delivered. As if to say all was well.

Name changed in case this is outing, but a few years ago I was filming on an old mill estate in Yorkshire. Most of the filming took place at one end of the estate and at the other end, through a short woody path was an old mill building converted into townhouses and flats, where some of the cast and crew stayed. I was sharing the end townhouse with another actor, directly over the wheelpit, and in the dead of night, I could hear the mill wheel turning down underneath us, and feel the vibration as it rumbled away. The only thing was, the wheel was no longer there. The caretaker has taken us down to the basement to show us and it was just an empty wheelpit.

Some other strange things happened too, someone's telly kept switching on in the night, even after he'd unplugged it, and someone on the other end whose kitchen was above the bedroom kept hearing footsteps walking about in the night above him.

You are. You need to meditate and ask your guides to help. Write everything down. Also find a spiritualist church with an awareness or development class. It takes time for most but it's a beautiful thing to do. Also there's good teachers on YouTube.

Spirit are amazing.

Worried198423 · 14/10/2025 09:21

I was in my bils house for a communion .
We were in the kitchen, but it's open plan.
I kept l99king in to the sitting room,I was convinced someway there.
It was a woman that's all I could tell.
Anyway they took loads of pictures with the communion girl, and in a good few there was orbs.
Turns out the dil mother had passed away a few years prior and they were convinced it was her.

Another one from the same day.
I was going to use the bathroom and I heard a noise from the attic.
I didn't go up because I felt something not nice was on the stairs.

I mentioned it to sil and she said she had her 2 girls up there but she had to take them out.
They couldn't sleep, kept saying something was bothering them.
Plus she used to hear walking all through the house.

So she took them down, gave them another bedroom and all was good.
No noises and the girls slept better.
She says it's fine in the house as long as don't go near the attic.
She got the house blessed but she says it didn't really work.

What are you specifically referring to? Are you asking why I'm a pagan and occultist or asking why I believe I've had communication with some deities?

About the deities. Just curious and open minded.

HarrietSchulenberg · 16/10/2025 23:08

I used to work in a very old building in Chester that was said to be haunted. It was an alternative clothes shop at the time, with a record shop at the back. Customers often said they'd felt someone blowing in their ear and one morning all the shoe boxes that I'd sorted and arranged the day before were thrown all over the floor.

Woonamechange1 · 19/10/2025 15:35

Name changed because I have told a few people about these in real life. I have had a few experiences. When I was a young child I remember seeing my favourite Sindy doll fly floating inside an orb and leave my bedroom. I was a keen reader of Enid Blyton books at the time so thought it was my toys coming to life. The next morning my sister woke me up asking why my Sindy was on her bed when she woke up. A few weeks later my sister had gone to bed and I was downstairs with my parents, she came running downstairs screaming that she had seen a man at the end of her bed. She described him as having long white hair and looking like a wizard. My parents didn’t make a big deal out of it but we later found out that my uncle who had been staying in that same room saw a man fitting that description before my sister had been born. That was initially my bedroom and I apparently told my parents that I had a friend who lived in the wall. I have no recollection of this. I often wonder if people who have lived in that house since have had any similar experiences. When my DDs were about 4/5 they came running into our bedroom to ask us to come and look at the fairies in their room. We were staying at my mum’s house at the time (different house) they said they could see lots of fairies at what seemed to be a carnival on the end of the bed. They both saw exactly the same thing and remember it vividly today. We couldn’t see anything!

I don't have truly woo occurrences to share but dreams have been mentioned a few times and in my case, I'd say I've had quite a few 'powerful' dreams over the course of my life - from very little. They all 'feel' and 'look' different - especially vivid even though they're not always hyper-realistic. Someone upthread mentioned 9/11 and a few days before the events, I'd had one of those. Not as much detail or context as what PP described but it was an extremely vivid dream of a long line of people walking through ash. Sound was bizarrely muffled, almost like you'd feel after hearing something deafening. I still have goosebumps writing this. It's by far not the only instance and not always related to world events. It's always been very random. I can't say I particularly enjoy having those dreams or 'flashes' in my sleep. I've been reading up on shamanic dreams and it's kind of like that but without the help of any psychoactive substances. My theory is that something goes on in my brain chemistry that somehow alters my perception and enhances my intuition...

I think some phenomena which we call 'the supernatural' might well be explained rationally in the future.

But sceptics - don't be so fast to dismiss people's experiences! I count myself a sceptic but...as Danny Robbins's tag-line goes,"I know what I saw!" We had a number of inexplicable (to put it no stronger than that...) things happen, but when we both saw a big fat roll of tape (lying flat, not standing up like a wheel) absolutely whizz across a flat table spontaneously - it didn't start slowly, or all off the end etc - we knew that something wasn't right.

It was completely stationary (no pun intended...) and shot horizontally very fast, then stopped. I guess it moved about 2 feet. No, the table wasn't sloping at all. No, there was no breeze in the room - dead of winter, all doors and windows closed. No-one was near to it. No, the kids hadn't attached a thread to it.

This is mild compared to some experiences people have - but I mention it because it was absolutely inexplicable.

The most frightening things are often very banal. Danny Robbins, himself a fence-sitter and open-minded, told a story that he said baffled and scared him.

A friend lived in a tiny, tiny flat and worked very long hours, so the flat was basically a dormitory. He used to take off his jeans each night and lay them on the chair right next to his bed. One morning they were gone. He searched the tiny flat over and over, but never found them. The windows were locked, doors locked, no-one else was in the flat. Just weird and unsettling....🤔

This has happened to me twice. One when I was alone and the second time with someone present, in my kitchen. The items didn’t move like something would ordinarily move if it was rolling etc, it’s like it’s been shoved very hard so it goes flying!

Newname71 · 26/10/2025 16:53

Mines not so much a woo story but a universe aligning the stars type story. I’ll have to change details but the gist will be the same. I work for 2 partners. They bought a second business that had short term staffing issues. I was asked to cover for 2 weeks. One day a new client came in, I recognised his name and asked him if he’d ever been in the forces. He looked me straight in the eye and said “you’re newname71 aren’t you”. He was my next door neighbour in a foreign country when I was 3!! He had moved around the world, as had my family and we ended up living 7 miles apart! If he’d come in any other time we’d have missed each other. It was weird.

YumYa · 26/10/2025 17:13

@Newname71 wow!

OntheupsoIam · 26/10/2025 20:11

I always think it’s interesting how people respond to a woo thread. Some believe in ghosts/spirits or similar. It’s a belief. They are entitled to believe in whatever they want to. I don’t know why others feel it’s their right to mock them or ‘prove them wrong’. Would they mock someone in quite the same way who believes that a man died and came back to life 3 days later? Why are some beliefs more acceptable or respected than others? I hope it’s not that because groups of men champion certain beliefs then they become acceptable.

TooSpooky · 27/10/2025 21:13

I’d love to see a ghost - I mean in full daylight and stays beyond blinking (but must be a lonely ghost).
I have a room in my house has a presence. I’ve never seen an actual ghost but I’ve experienced things that I can’t dismiss.
i have very vivid dreams that have all sorts of animals weaving through them.
I have spoken with deceased loved ones in dreams. They come to my at their best - they look happy and strong.
I am not a mad delusional fool. I have only shared this selectively.

I think the problem is that so many “woo” things are very easily explained, and it’s frustrating when people would rather accept the paranormal explanation and dismiss the simple non paranormal one.
Also, so many people have been frightened, misled and cheated by purveyors of woo that some of us are keen to offer an alternative explanation.
