Hair help!

Posting here instead of style and beauty as need a quick answer to try and get this fixed tonight or tomorrow.
Had highlights done, which I liked, it is light but my hair lifted really well apparently. I met with a friend today who took one look and said you need to cover that with a darker colour asap it looks ridiculous ( thanks for that) so question is can I just chuck a box colour over it? She reckons a mid to dark brown. I can’t afford to go back to hairdressers as highlights cost quite a bit so box colour it is.
Any advice from hairdressers or someone who has done this themselves successfully would be greatly appreciated!

Don't dye over it op on the say so of one awful 'friend'! She's probably jealous that it looks better than hers. How rude to comment anyway. What was her specific reasoning? Any way you can post a non identifying photo on here of your hair?

Get a new friend, not a box dye!! Christ who says that!! Also if it’s too white blonde you can tone it down without covering it up, and no I wouldn’t chuck a box dye over it, it can go green. Are you / were you happy with it before she said anything?

Don’t put a box dye over it. Do you like it? If you think it’s too light/lighter than you asked for, you can go back to the salon and ask them to sort.

I bet it looks fine and your 'friend" is ether being horrid because they have hair envy or they are having a crap time and behaving awfully. Is your friend usually like this?

Have you got a friend who is fair and honest whose opinion you can ask.

I agree that you need to put a picture to get better advice.
Pixel out your face or just photograph a section so we can appreciate the highlights.

She can be blunt and not big on compliments- last time I had a colour change she said oh you had your hair done then? I said yep and she said are you happy with it- I said yes and she said well, that’s the main thing then! Lol she’s never said I look ridiculous before though

It looks really nice. If I am being generous, perhaps its not to her taste? But if she says anything again just say "thanks for your opinion but I happen to love it"

Yes I was happy, it was quite a drastic change but Hairdresser was brilliant and was in there hours getting it done, just to be told I look ridiculous( think it was her way of saying i was too old for this)

Keep the blonde but ditch the friend 🧡
